A Ghanaian pastor over the weekend reportedly cancelled a wedding over the couple's HIV status.

According to a report by Yen Ghana, the couple identified as Joyce Waithera and Paul Waithaka were instructed to take a HIV test before walking down the aisle and when the results came in, the pastor refused to officiate their wedding.

The cleric, Jesse Karanja, even went as far as calling the police to drive the couple's guests out of the church compound.

The bride and groom could not bear the embarrassment and decided to stay away from the premises leaving the guests to feast on the food before leaving.

Everything from the decorations, sitting arrangements to the cars meant to ferry the bridal party went to waste after pastor Jesse refused to show up for the ceremony.

According to a guest close to the family, Jesse kept giving insensible excuses as to why the wedding could not take place.

"The pastor has been taking us round in circles since 10.30am to 6.30pm. He has given us excuses that do not make sense then decided to call the police for no reason. He is not a doctor and cannot comment on the couple's status," the irate guest let out.

Another guest stated the pastor had his own personal problems but had no right to transfer them to the couple that just wanted to be united as man and wife.

"I just pity their parents because I do not know what is going on in their minds," he said.

A church elder was later recorded saying the Mizpah House of Prayer does not tolerate immorality and proclaims a life of purity. According to the church, sex before marriage is frowned upon and couples are required to stay celibate before marriage.

Wait sef, why did he need a scientific test to detect their religious "impurity"?

They should have done the the medicals first! If there is any hitch, the couple can decide to go ahead or call it off. Why wait till the D-day before cancelling? Not fair on the couple.

It doesn't make any different , no minus , no sub, the man have already paid the bride price of the lady ,so that alone makes the women his wife legally,, what concerns the pastor about their status, see let me come down well , na because the lady be member of him church make pastor dy past of the film , if not notn concern am , base on the custom of land recognise the couple as husband and wife....

You said the pastor did well calling off the wedding, yes you are right because joining the two might cause an eternal regret.

But saying they were condemned by the Lord already is wrong.

Bush and ignorant people.God will punish that pastor,he will know no peace for humiliating the couple.I detest such acts by these persons who call themselves men of God,and the public at large.Those people might even have longer lifespan more than all of u saying rubbish here on Nairaland.mitchew!!!!!

I feel the clergy acted in the best of faith of morals (in his prevailing circumstances). Remember that you cannot force the ministry to legally wed the couples if the officials have knowledge of any impediments against such acts.

But he fouled his own processes, if any. Pre-marital tests such as HIV and the rest are supposed to have been done in weeks leading to the wedding ceremony and only the pregnancy test be done in about 3 days to the wedding. Even if the result changes after the tests are done, the church would know that they have satisfied their own conscience and fulfilled their written law!
