There’s so much to unpack in this post. Sorry for the long post.

1)so you’re okay with more expensive products as long as they are made in America? Right now, The only way to keep manufacturing jobs here is to force people to accept goods at very expensive price points. According to you guys, the economy was terrible under Biden and people are suffering. Your solution is to make the things they need even more expensive. How’s that for a solution?.

2) Other countries didn’t make buying from America hard. America made buying from itself hard. If American minimum wage is 10x the next trading partner, whose fault is it that the trading partner would be seeking more affordable options? We have this massively inflated currency that we force other countries to trade with. It’s to our benefit. We can’t turn back and pretend that their currencies being weaker than ours doesn’t have an impact on how much more expensive buying from us is. I’m no economist but isn’t this obvious? Someone with a degree in international economics should correct me if I’m wrong please.

3) Now let’s talk about how I really feel about American manufacturing and jobs here. Because you’re either making assumptions about me now or conveniently forgotten that I’ve in the past spoken out about corporations ship jobs abroad due to greed and maximizing profits. To which you whipped out your classic defense of greedy corporations and how profit is the ultimate holy grail. We could have manufacturing here if corporations would take a pay cut.

5) it’s rich that you suddenly care about American jobs. I thought no one owed anyone else a job? Wasn’t that your response to the mass layoffs? I digress but it can’t be ignored so I had to point it out.

6) I would love a boost in American manufacturing if done correctly. Putting tariffs first. Causing a crash in the market and hike in prices with no alternatives yet is a silly way to go about it.

7) Do you know there’s a world in which manufacturing happens in America, workers are paid fairly and the products don’t have to cost an arm and a leg? The only trade off would be that the companies don’t get to take in gargantuan profits with each quarter being better than the last. They would make good money still but that won’t satisfy their greed and knowing you, you’d rather support suffering for more expensive products than for billionaires to take a pay cut. So if you’re not in support of a system where we can make this happen, then you just like Trump are not yet serious about bringing manufacturing back to America.
American jobs in privte sector is what really counts not govt tax payers funded jobs where they do little and get paid

The difference is Chinese economy doesn’t run on handing more and more profits to wealthy oligarchs govt after govt. Their corporations don’t run their govt.
American corporations run American govt. our politicians are mere errand boys put in place to ensure corporate welfare. Anything that favors the people is rebranded as socialism and they have your party at the forefront running propaganda against it.

Some of the things you guys want sound like what we want. But we could achieve them if you would stop letting yourselves be bamboozled by greedy corporations. Same corporations who tell you they’re not the problem. That your neighbor is the problem. Even though your neighbor works 3 jobs and still can’t make a decent living due to low wages. The same low wages you’re talking about now but have conveniently ignored how your party keeps fighting against competitive wages and workers’ wellbeing.
Chinese job industry work on slave labor where 9yr olds can work for 50 cents per hour. Why do you need an oligarch when everyone can slave away

Ask those who work for Chinese employers in Nigeria vs those who work for American employers in Nigeria to tell you the difference

Funny you should say that. Remind me which party is advocating for revised child labor laws? So that more kids can be out of school and working to “earn their worth”. Hint: it’s the Republican Party!
Child labor violations have been soaring in the US, but efforts to render solutions through legislation have received little support, and Republicans at the state level continue pushing bills that would roll back current child labor protections.

In most recent fiscal year, the US Department of Labor wage and hour division reported 835 cases of child labor violations affecting 3,876 minors, and 688 minors employed in violation of hazardous occupation, a 283% increase since 2015. Civil penalties against employers totaled just under $4.3m.
This is from the guardian. I encourage you to look more into bills passed by republicans to remove child labor protections

Ask those who work for Chinese employers in Nigeria vs those who work for American employers in Nigeria to tell you the difference
I’m not in support of Chinese manufacturing practices. Not saying the USA has the best practices but definitely better than them. And do you know why the higher USA standards exist? Because of bleeding heart liberals. You make fun of us for caring too much but then brag about labor protections we have in the country. These protections were created after the snowflake-always-miserable-constantly-crying liberals fought for them.

Sounds like you want the same things we want. But you have to stop getting in your own way. We could have the American manufacturing you want but that would require strong unions, taxing the rich, and lots of regulations. All things Republicans hate.

They think we can have it both ways. Keep the dollar high and force other countries to trade with it.

Then force them to buy from us at a more expensive rate than they would be getting making it themselves.

Pull all aid from the rest of the world but somehow maintain world power and keep hundreds of our military bases in other countries.

It’s showing a deeper lack of understanding of what makes America what it is. If they’re okay with a less powerful America, zero American bases in other countries and less potent currency, then they can say that. We can enter the field as equals with the other countries we’ve keeping under our feet.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. If you don’t like the weight, give up the throne!

Maybe Raum can tell us if the American wage has kept up with inflation. America that is even built on credit to start with. Will people go all in on even more debt?

This is another situation we are already witnessing in Nigeria. We have simply chosen to move away from some items. This may be tecnos moment. They already have Chris captain America advertising their phones. By the time trump is done the price of a Tecno will be the old price of an iPhone.

If there is a loophole to offshore, as a businessman you will be foolish not to do it or encourage it to increase your profit while As a politician and president you cannot watch as your workforce all become jobless, erode your tax paying base and depend on welfare
The solution is what descarado mentioned.

descarado:
America should cut the tax and amend some laws to promote and protect manufacturers.
To the above I'd add making education cheaper.

Unfortunately, many business people and big brands would rather maximise profit by seeking cheaper labour and inputs elsewhere, which is why they've ended up in China and park their profit in Ireland. And by golly is it expensive to manufacture in America with human labour. Not only must you pay high living wages and energy cists, you must also make enough profit to cover pensions too, which, the longer you've been in business the more pensioners you'd have, and that cost must be paid by your customers who are likely watching their hard earned cents.

I do laugh when basilico says China steals ip. I can just about see him working for a foreign company in Nigeria but refusing to steal (learn) their ways so we don't call him a thief.

The American economy did not take off when MBAs took over and sent manufacturing abroad. They get very good returns for their business acumen.
Only problem. You are sending jobs to IP thieves, who have a different agenda than yours.Yours may be to uplift their economy ,theirs is dethrone you as the world's superpower by hook or crook.
"Mother China first, Remember you are in diaspora, Nice family you left in China ,sad if anything happened to them"
Companies didn't venture abroad to uplift other economies, their primary motivation was profit. This is FACT.

Though we can't denie that some local economies benefited, but the decisions to move manufacturing overseas were primarily driven by American firms seeking lower labor costs and higher profit margins. But this is not without cost as this approach often overlooked the long-term consequences for domestic jobs and national security. And you and I know that companies can operate in China or Vietnam in ways that are not possible in the US due to stricter labor protections and regulations.

One of the biggest factors is unions and democrat policies especially on minimum wages. Don't know whether it passed ,gig workers were also on democrat radar in terns of wages and benefits .⁰
You are right that this is one of the problems. While their move looks good, it also affect the economy as many companies struggle to absorb higher labor costs, leading them to cut back on employees or even relocate operations.

They don't absorb anything. Automation helps in production as well. They are just out for maximum profit because of greed.

This didn’t address the cost of buying from America. Even at minimum wage (which a lot of people already don’t want to work for), the cost of paying American workers eclipses the cost of paying workers in other countries.

What’s your proposal on how these countries can make purchasing from us affordable for them at the rate they pay their workers?
Someone brought this question up on a twitter space two years ago.

You are so flippant about the loss of jobs because it doesn't affect you, There are people whose jobs are being shipped out daily because it will always be cheaper abroad
But there is the issue of cost.

Just imagine what an iphone would cost if made in America. They'd need to automate to come close, which wouldn't create jobs, and what they save by automation would be lost to the cost of energy etc.

People need to understand Adam Smith. It would stop them thinking manufacturers give a damn about them, hence unions. But some are against workers fighting for fairer employment rights.

American wages will drop and fail to keep up when a substantial part of the population are losing their jobs
When we flood the market with cheaper Chinese imports, U.S. manufacturers struggle, factories close, and wages stagnate
While at the same time the Chinese middle class is rising from manufacturing for American market while Americas middle class is eroding
This is betting on American workers that these people too can get a job and make a living instead of depending on govt benefits
And if the bold is the reason dump is tanking the economy, then smart. And no, I don't expect him to announce that's his policy, and even expect him to lie if it were.

Unfortunately, Americans wouldn't exactly appreciate the reduction in wages if assets don't drop in value too, and I can't see asset depreciation being good policy anywhere not to talk of in the USA.

pro tip for next time - any power user using more than one pc at the same time will do what you saw in my own picture, have a mouse and keyboard that can be switched between devices on the fly . if he is using laptops he will have laptop stands. this is even more so in the place where you pretend to be - where computer peripherals are plentiful and cheap

go and buy this for your next movie shoot

it is very cheap. i cannot imagine why the people who bought you a range rover on employing you failed to buy you actual tools for work, but rather gave you a consumer pc cry cry cry they would not give to an intern cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

anyway, you are a big boy in yankee - order it on amazon prime . you can flaunt it in your next picture of the made up tales of the it admin developer cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Yes. When you mix automation with labourers you cut cost, bring manufacturing back home and will not be Chinese bitch. Like raumdeuter mentioned how US reliance on China caused issues during covid.

But do you know who is anti union in America?

Not the left. Red states are notorious for being anti union.
Red states, white states, black states, the ruling class should come together and fight this volatility before it will swallow America.
Ukraine Russian war exposed a lot of hidden truth and emboldened some countries to see the yansh of America.
People can talk politics but, the truth remains that the earlier the better for America.

People might think trump is taking this too far but that's the only option to keep America on the number one spot which is already slipping out of their hands..

America is the biggest market in the world, everyone wants to sell to America. If American market is not buying your products you are not going far, but these countries don't want America to sell to them to protect their own economy they place a tariff on American goods coming into their own country

The trade off is cheap goods in America vs Employment for people in America
The tarrifs are terrible.
There some stuffs I will want to buy from America. The tarrifs sometimes runs in double digits. Most are more than the price of what I wanted to buy. I can easily buy the same thing from South korea with very little tarrif.
