budaatum:What are you building? I assume everything on aliexpress is fake. But it is possible to get fooled even on Amazon as they sometimes cross inventory. Buy from a place you trust or a place with a good return policy and thest the device. Picked up the s25 ultra a few days ago, almost want to get a fake to see how good it is. Crazy thing is some won't even care. |

IjeBos:it is really a late stage capitalism problem https://www.epi.org/publication/ceo-pay-in-2021/ CEO pay has skyrocketed 1,460% since 1978 CEOs were paid 399 times as much as a typical worker in 2021i mean we can see elon musk who spends all his time on twitter. or running around in the white house. so what time does he actually have to actually work? but greed is good so let ceos keep finding ways to increase their wages while reducing the wages of everyone else the oil and gas industry in nigeria has some of the highest paid workers. those workers salaries drive the economy where they are based. but when a company like shell or texaco divests, the first thing the new owners go for is killing the unions, so they can reduce wages and redirect any savings to themselves and their cronies. now here is the thing. these owners are already rich. they have already set themselves up. so any extra money they are squeezing out of the company from contract staffing, from awarding jobs to family members - it is not going into the economy. it is going to pandora. this is how you slow down the economy. this is also what happened in warri. when shell was in warri, the money flowed and the city thrived. shell has divested and nigerians have taken over. you will see the nigerian owners in pages of magzines as oil big boys, but the wealth is concentrated among them. it is not flowing down. this is where america is today. most of the money is in the hands of a few who are only interested in growing it even more . Nigerians are told that abacha had a mental disease. well do do American billionaires. it is never enough for them . they want more and more and more even at the peoples expense - just like our politicians i literally watched a ceo who raum knows of build a thriving company and kill it with his greed. same energy. the money is never enough. |

GloriousGbola:This $7bn that created 7 charging spots, under what do you charge that massive failure to? Tax payers as usual. After paying FG wages, FG consultants. It shows that govt should not be in the business of job creation as we all know its filled with bureaucracies and quota Let the govt give the private sector incentives which makes their selling price competitive in the market. If you know that your goods after production will compete with a Chinese product priced at 20% of the price why would you bother? But when you know you can compete favorably with the Chinese products then you can bet on yourself and gaining the market share When you place tariffs on China and they smartly move their production to Taiwan to continue gaming the trade pact then you have to be smarter |

budaatum:fortunately, you live in yankee. it is those of us who live in nigeria that are fked when i order from the us - maybe i get it in two weeks. so return window has closed. not like i can send it back anyway. if you buy in nigeria it is how well you can drag with the seller. i actually bought a brand new 12tb hard drive over the weekend and it did not work. but the seller took it back , likely because we are regular customers and we do good business. a surprise but a welcome one what you want to do is download the manufacturers ssd management tools to test the drive before you deploy for samsung download samsung ssd magician for crucial download crucial storage executive solidign has a tool as well so does sandisk what i see people in yankee do these days is they make a full video from when they receive till they unbox so there is no accusation of fraud. because sometimes sellers may try to weasel out of replacing the item these tools should theoretically tell you if your drive is fake or not in addition you can also use crystal disk info, which will at the minimum tell you if your drive is brand new or not also if you stick to buying from amazon prime you can easily return the item. [frankly no point in not buying from amazon prime as any other seller will add shipping costs] IjeBos:that is my sentiment about aliexpress and temu. every once in a while on reddit, you see a post where someone bought a 1tb hard drive or flash drive for kicks to confirm it was a weighted box with an sd card inside, with its firmware changed to simulate 1tb. god help you if you back up serious data to it in 2006, i was leaving my company to a new place and i bought a 1gb flash drive. the files would copy , but when i got home, they had turned to an unreadable mess. may we be protected from fake drives and resultant data loss |

raumdeuter:i think that article is playing with the truth - because it referenced a new york post article As of December, the United States had 183,000 public charging ports and since the start of the Biden administration, the number of publicly available fast-charging ports has increased by 90%, Bhatt said, adding he is confident the US will hit the 500,000 charging port goal. Let the govt give the private sector incentives which makes their selling price competitive in the market.the us lost the manufacturing battle when they outsourced. they are not going to win it back. china is far too established. what the us should be doing and that is where governments come in is create NEW industries that will be based in the us. |

Elon Musk blasted President Trump’s top trade adviser, Peter Navarro, calling him a “slowpoke” and “dumber than a sack of bricks” on X as disagreement about the White House’s tariffs continue. In a press conference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the internal fight as just a disagreement between “two individuals who have very different views on trade and on tariffs.” News |

GloriousGbola:There is nothing wrong with capitalism, It has brought more people out of poverty than any other system, It has given humanity hope more than any other system, The govt still needs to do its part and make things competitive. A CEO has a right to gather everything to himself, he is not doing a religious charity nor is it about morality. left to him the whole world will be in his pocket. Its by creating opportunities that you grow your money and wealth, E.g Elon does not need SpaceX to be a Billionaire, it was his "Greed" that led to creating SpaceX that is helping the US govt with their space endeavors, Elon does not need to create Starlinks to be a billionaire, It was his "greed" that make him create it and now millions maybe billions all over the world are benefitting from it Bezos for example is already a billionaire yet with his greed he created Amazon business which has made more opportunities for many people to feed their family by driving those trucks, many guys now feed their family by doing deliveries instead of living off welfare Next he is starting an AI company which will provide solutions, make him richer and make many people under him rich as wel I will rather have those who have a track record of creating wealth continue to do so, Instead of govt taxing the money off him to punish the wealthy so they can spend another 7bn to produce 7 EVs Below is another example of how govt performs when it comes to efficiency In 2021, the Biden Administration passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which included a provision to give $42.5 billion to the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program to provide under-served and rural areas with internet access. To date, it has connected nobody.Read the part in bold and tell me it doesnt remind you of Nigeria? I wont blame Biden too much, though its the admin that normally takes the blame but thats the nature of govt everywhere. Its filled with bureaucracies and inefficiencies It probably would cost way less to spend it on Starlinks vs How much Biden spent on BEAD program to connect 0 people while consultants, employees, contractors, lobbyists, middlemen have all been paid. That is the difference between trusting govt and trusting private businessmen who have done it many times over |

GloriousGbola:What industry has govt created successfully besides collecting money and blowing it? Its private people who check the people and see what they need then implement solutions And what will stop the "new industries" from outsourcing also? As long as the cheap labor loophole exist and no govt policy to cover that e.g by tariffs |

GloriousGbola:UK actually, where consumer laws protect us against fakes. No need for Amazon Prime neither, as free delivery usually just takes a few days longer without it, and I hate unnecessary subscriptions. Testing on receipt is crucial so to discover fake and return in the returns window. |

IjeBos:I'm building around an Intel® Core™ i5-12400F for my nephew. We ordered an ASUS PRIME H610M-A WIFI D4 Intel H610 LGA 1700 micro ATX from Ebuyer, but they messed us around so we went back to Amazon like we've done for everything else. I'm sticking to Amazon from now on for their returns policy, and Ebay because of paypal protection. |

raumdeuter:And yet, employers still choose to manufacture abroad, because they can't seem to lowball enough to make in America profitable. Its not just for labour cost. The iphone guy mentioned the speed with which a factory in China can be refashioned due to design changes. What took days in China would have taken weeks if not months in USA. And China has more engineers too, so finding staff is much easier. Guess they start educating them in the womb so they can be qualified as children. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9f5SQQKr5o |

budaatum:brain fart for a moment intel was in deep doo doo last year because of their overheating cpus but it was 13th and 14th, not 12 . you're good. in my experience if you have enough drive bays, you don't need an nvme for games proper. great for you os. you can buy a sata ssd which is cheaper. i bought a 4tb qvo some years back . today there are 8tb samsung qvos. COD ready if you know what i mean [COD is over 100gb] also a good idea to keep your steam folder off your system drive. if your system crashes, and you reinstall, all you need to do is click on the steam executable and it will reinstall itself |

raumdeuter:That depends. As a consumer, I'd be more concerned with cost than whether others have jobs or not. If it's too expensive I'd look for cheaper alternatives. As a manufacturer, cost too. If my product is too expensive, I'd sell less and make less profit, and neither would appeal to me nor to shareholders. As a legislature, jobs. People with jobs are more likely to vote for me than those I make lose their jobs because I encourage offshoring. Basically, different people would have different priorities. |

budaatum:That is because China does not have as much regulations as US. To do anything in the US, you have to go through numerous regulations that ends up frustrating manufacturers. |
| Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by raumdeuter: 12:42am On Apr 09, 2025 |
budaatum:As a consumer your first priority is to have an income to afford your lifestyle, If anything is too expensive you buy a cheaper alternative but if you cant get a job then what? An income of $0 can buy $0 items. Only those who make money care about if things are expensive. If you have $0 it makes no difference if it costs $10 or $1000 both are out of your reach As a legislature in America, its cheaper for you to just blame the rich instead of putting in policies that brings jobs and give your people have jobs which is what they have been doing since. A Democratic politician who made millions from politics will still blame the rich while doing nothing As a manufacturer, if your product is too expensive, you find a way to make it cheaper by cutting the cost of production, if its labor cost then offshore since govt will turn a blind eye |
| Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by budaatum: 12:45am On Apr 09, 2025 |
raumdeuter:Is that not because dump says he'd cut taxes for the wealthy? If he cut taxes for middle income earners, not many would complain if they still get the same services they were getting before the cuts, but if he cuts tax for the billionaires who don't even use the services which might be cut due to lower tax revenue, of course I'd flare up. I'd rather have the taxes, and school meals for those who need it, than a tax cut for Musk. It's the Nigerian in me. I've seen what happens in a society where tax is low. You get substandard schools, expensive health care, dirt not cleaned off the roads, and no safety net for the needy in dire straits. And worse is the very poor and ill-educated become so desperate that I'd need to pay extra to build a wall for my security. |
