Is frowning until you're spoiled with money supposed to be fun? It's really unfortunate how we adopt certain behavioural deficiencies and call it "culture. "

You’ll attend a Nigerian wedding, and everything will feel so dry. It’s mostly just a bunch of clowns trying to cash out: from the alaga iduro (or mc) abusing all privileges to make money from a man who's probably exhausted his life savings, to the thieving caterer or usher trying to loot meat and jollof, to even the couple selling overpriced aso-ebi to co-conspirators from the same WhatsApp group. And you'll wonder why our society reeks of perpetual greed and theft.

This is why people travel to other countries, experience love, and face culture shock, because the money-driven, morally-depraved love they know back home is completely different from what exists in other places.

We all need to do better.
Nice review.... everything about Nigerians is related to stealing from the pastors .....hostel mistress...course rep.....fat women tht cook company foods, school proprietress, mothers( housewives) they inflate the money to their husbands....
TUNUBU.......he remove subsidy without showing the account balance..........church secretaries...... portharcourt agberos ....God punish this one's.......kidnappers .......teachers .....heads of companies......infact

You should have at least probed to know why it's so, rather than trying to push a narrative.

The bride is expected to put up this show. Her groom and his friends are to shower her with money and this continues until she smiles.
U get brain 🧠 grin, everything na scope for them to spray her money grin grin,

lol, in some parts of Ijaw this is how it’s done. The husband and his relatives would then try to shower her with gifts to try eliciting a smile from her

That's a pure lie. Your ancient traditions were coined mainly by stark illiterates who didn’t have to do much to marry. In fact, some of them used only bush meat, a keg of palm wine, and a few other items they could easily snag from a few days of farming to marry.

It was the greedy men of the '60s and '70s who introduced raw cash and dollars. It is these greedy men, who have failed to evolve with today’s economic realities that permit a woman to also spend on her man, that keep lying about traditions.

Very soon, men like you will start demanding that Bitcoin and other Crypto be paid to kinsmen in the name of same "tradition". What nonsense tradition?

I don't know you in person, but I love your thoughts as expressed here. It is, for me, part of the basics of civic education that we must start teaching our children if we are to successfully re-orient our society from its current path of perdition to one to holistic success.

Regards.

The bride refused to smile on her wedding day for over 20 minutes, leaving guests puzzled and stirring whispers across the venue.

Some speculated nerves, others suspected deeper emotions behind the stoic expression
So yo were checking the time ni.........,

I'm lying about my people's tradition but you who's never been to Imo State know better

Funny ode

For the record there is nothing like dollar or gold payment my tradition. Kindly carried that particular lie to your tradition

Money and pride has always been part of the Igbo tradition and culture which is why it drives people hatdwork and success at all s

200k can marry you a wife in Yoruba land or north with even half of that but in Igbo land you are not ready

Imo State and anambra you are so not ready but you can always cut corners if you have reasonable in law

Life goes on

Half baked journalism and publication Everytime. No detail about location of where your publicized event occurred.

Anyways, I guess it could be the same wedding a makeup artist friend told me that a bride received the news of her father's death in the middle of her wedding reception Benin. Maybe. Maybe not.

It is cultural thing and no one is asking you to like it. Learn to live and let others live

That's how you guys make people think parents sell their daughters in igboland.

And hey, I am a married igbo woman from anambra. No extravagant spending on my marriage and the high and mighty attended. What is normally required are small. If your woman people demanded for lots of things, ask to see the real ùmùnna lists.
Unless you want to show you have arrived.

And with 100k or less even in this economy, you can marry in anambra state. That, I am very sure of.

That is not Igbo tradition at all.
These yahoo boys have soiled marriage in igboland outsiders will think we sell our kids to the highest bidder.
In every family, there is a kinsmen lists for marriage. Believe me, the things on that lists is written in such a way everybody both the rich and poor can comfortably afford that. It's the family of the bride that normally start adding 1a, 1b to 1z to just list number 1 if you get my drift. And the girl will boast, girls mum will join in the boasting. Then the bobo will come in like Elon trying to outdo everybody. Even if he borrowed cos they believed that they will recoup that day from money spread on them during dancing. And to show his friend he has arrived, he dare not question the lists given to him.

100k or less?

You know see the evidence that you are really a woman who does not contribute 1 naira to her wedding ?

With a bag of rice north of 50k and one small goat costing as much as 40K I guess everyone brought their own firewood and chairs to your wedding

Wait ooo what about the transport? Guests had to pay to come since the event took place in father's palor for free

Listen

Even in Imo State bride price no pass 1,000 naira. My in-laws took just 200 naira for my beautiful wife but I'm telling you I spent over 2 million on traditional marriage alone

Figure that out
