Rivers Sole Administrator, Ibas appoints Michael Odey as new RSIEC chairman


The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the appointment of Michael Odey as the new Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.


This was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika.

Ibas has also approved the reconstitution of RSIEC.


These appointments come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.

The new RSIEC members include:

Dr. Michael Ekpai Odey – Chairman


Mr. Lezaasi Lenee Torbira – Member

Professor (Dr.) Arthur Nwafor – Member

Professor Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha – Member


Professor (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor – Member

Dr. (Mrs.) Olive A. Bruce – Member

Professor Chidi Halliday – Member

Why is fubara quite in all of this ... He couldn't even go to court to challenge that illegality . He should issue a statement for goodness sake they have practically taken river State that ibas might be extended in office there's nothing they can not do

Can local government election be held under emergency rule? If yes, then Fubara is done. Ibas will conduct the local government election and Wike’s loyalists will emerge across all local governments. They will also administer the council for the next three years.
