Racoon:Thank you so much for this. The government must do all it takes to ensure younger Nigerians can stay and contribute to the development at home rather than expecting them to reduce the cost of dollars. |

motayoayinde:Nigeria has too many universities. Nigeria has not even touched the first industrial revolution, yet Nigeria has more universities than France and UK combined. I suggest that the government close down 95% of all universities and polytechnic schools, convert them into primary and high schools, and prioritise developing industries in semi-skilled industries such as textile, farming, construction |

McLizbae:Many of those that japaed were well established in Nigeria and a lot of them sold their properties to be able to relocate. Only a few percentage are sponsored by their parents . Giving a certain demography for instance ,let's use tech guys ,a lot of Teck guys are doing well for themselves in the country and if anyone of them has idea like Facebook etc ,no one will stop them ,the only problem they might have is Nigeria as location source which takes us back to my initial comment that of everyone stay backs and work hard to build the country ,there won't be a need to Japa . |

Nnamdipapa:Your last question shows you do not Understand what remittance means in this context, I have an App on my phone and I transfer money direct from my UK bank account straight to my UBA account in real time Ie I get an alert in 3 mins. How does this benefit my next door neighbour? |
| Re: Paradox Of The Japa Syndrome On The Nigerian Economy by Nnamdipapa(m): 5:34pm On Apr 12, 2025 |
erico2k2:I sent 4million to my brother last month to complete his bungalow. He spent all the money buying building materials in the Nigerian market and boost Nigerian economy. I pay three of my staff in Nigeria about 900,000 every month which I count as a remittance. Why the hell will I want to keep money in Naira in my own bank account? Tell me what sense it makes for me to do that. |

erico2k2:You are not answering my question, Why the hell will I want to send money to my own bank account in Nigeria when I have never lived there in the past 16years? Do you spend Naira abroad? |
| Re: Paradox Of The Japa Syndrome On The Nigerian Economy by erico2k2(m): 5:47pm On Apr 12, 2025 |
Nnamdipapa:ahah I thought you pay staff i n Nigeria mega bunch?? dont the money go toy our bank B4 going to ur assumed workers? and oh Im still going fru ur profile CEO and to answer your question, I pay money to my Bank cos I go to Nigeria very often and I am always investing there at the moment real Estate Around PHC.Its easy for me to pay wokers a local currency via local bank account. |

ednut1:Very simple, but APC's demonic regime will never do this, instead they will to be a friend and a foe to Nigerians at the same time. I am sure Devil sent Buhari and Tinubu to punish Nigerians for their past sins ![]() |
| Re: Paradox Of The Japa Syndrome On The Nigerian Economy by Nnamdipapa(m): 5:52pm On Apr 12, 2025 |
erico2k2:I pay directly from my bank here, It gets to their account in seconds. Even when I was on visit in Nigeria, I never kept money in Naira for more than two days due to the crazy fluctuations. Why do you find it strange that I have companies and pay staff? I hire with my overseas registered companies and pay from here, what's the big deal? My major concern is you are not smart enough to realize remittances do not neccssarly mean the money you send to keep in your bank account in Nigeria, reason you are finding it hard to appreciate the effect of remittances on the Nigerian economy. This is me giving you a free education my friend. |
| Re: Paradox Of The Japa Syndrome On The Nigerian Economy by armadeo(m): 5:59pm On Apr 12, 2025 |
erico2k2:It benefits them because the money you sent wasn't generated in Nigeria. That entire amount is almost dash to the country particularly if you spend it here. Unless you just lock it up. If the money is your account the bank uses it for business till you need it and they refund it to you. So if you send 1k dollars to your nigerian account from over seas and spend it here you've remmited to the Nigerian economy. Even if you dash people all the money as long as it is spent here and not generated here it is remittance |

armadeo:The banks take from the Economy, they are the champions of Microeconomy. The MOney you send home only ends at Microeconomy level. The true money that enrich the Macroeconomy in Nigeria are the ones generated i n Nigeria. You might argue this but lets see how you do with your points, I am waiting |

erico2k2:Lagos state budget 2024 12.5 billion dollars Kano state budget 2024 360 million dollars Diaspora remittances in 2024 2.4 billion dollars. Can you see the impact on the economy. 2.4 billion dollars comes into the economy without any effort on the country's part and tou don't think that's a big deal. |

erico2k2:I Why do you assume I am obliged to disclose my actual location on a useless forum like NL with zero benefits. You surprise me bro for assuming my profile on NL is supposed to be real. I never make that mistake.I send with Lemonade now Lemfi and always take out money from Nigeria using Africhange. My account in Nigeria has less than 10,000Naira as we speak. I will be living in Nigeria by the end of this year and hope to make Gambia my second home. |
| Re: Paradox Of The Japa Syndrome On The Nigerian Economy by armadeo(m): 6:38pm On Apr 12, 2025 |
erico2k2:I would assume the micro economy since most remittances come through the banks. We can like it or we cannot like it, remittances affect the economy. As we can see they can surpass the budgets of most states. What is your own point? |
| Re: Paradox Of The Japa Syndrome On The Nigerian Economy by erico2k2(m): 6:44pm On Apr 12, 2025 |
armadeo:The Microeconomy only Benefit the immediate circle of those who run it, i n your case, if you send your Dad money, it benefits you direct family. However if you send a car to your Dad it benefits the Macro Economy. The Apps we use to remit money to 9ja are registered in Tax Heavens ie UAE so they pay no tax to the FG Anyway let me stop here. |
