This is pure gibberish! there are 3 regions, each man from each region is to lead his tribe

An Igbo man is leading Igbo region
An hausa man is leading Hausa region
An Igbo man still wants to lead Yoruba region

Is that right?
Does that make sense? Answer this simple question!
The simple answer is that 'one Nigeria' is a fraud! One Nigeria means that any Nigerian can aspire to any political office, anywhere in Nigeria. Wether that Nigerian gets elected is a different issue

But if Zik wants to aspire to lead Northern Region, Western Region, Eastern Region, he is allowed to do that. It's for those Region's to vote who they wish. When Zik wanted to lead the Western Region, a Fulani man called Umaru Altine won elections to be Mayor of Enugu, capital of the Eastern Region. Can you imagine an Igbo man becoming Mayor of Ibadan, capital of the Western Region? I'm sure they will never allow that.

If Zik is not allowed to aspire to lead the Western Region or any other Region except where he comes from, where is this 'One Nigeria' You people keep talking about?

"One Nigeria" has always been a big fraud

I am an Igbo man but this is true
Azikiwe didn't impres me at all, looks like he was handed a script from the imperialist British to act on

This sound moronic as regards my question? Let me water it down to the simplest level ! If it were to be the other way round, would the eastern people had tolerated it??

If Zik was as terrible as you are trying to paint here, why did Westerners (Yorubas) vote for his party and not Awolowo’s party?
Get yourself educated and stop the revisionism/outright falsehood
AG won the elections abinitio, NCNC Never won the majority. Noise about tribalism/carpet crossing was a propaganda from Zik to curry igbo sympathy (esp to become eastern premier as the shame was much) and advance his political plan/agenda. Find below the result of the election:

Another attempt to distort reality. Awolowo was as pragmatic as anyone can imagine, it showed in his thought process , vision and output.

It takes a pragmatist to see Nigeria was more of a geographical expression and not failed One Nigeria as flaunted by the said Zik . A smart pragmatist that requested a secession clause be factored in to the constitution, that the other acclaimed pragmatist could not envision. The many industrial hubs still donning SW in Lagos, Oyo , Ogun state , were testament to his practical ideas and solutions.

Imagine someone merging with the North to become ceremonial president, what a failed pragmatist !

Check the thread, all your kinsman agree and know that Awolowo used tribalism to poach Azikiwe’s men.

Azikiwe never needed a coalition.

If AG went into coalition, name the parties it went into coalition with.

And how many political parties were registered by then?
How can you confidently lie? At this point you should go revisit all stories you have been told and research about them!

The covetous nature of Nnamdi Azikiwe made him supplant and remove Mr Ita Eyo in 1953 as premier in the Eastern region and then installed himself as premier in 1954-1959.
In 1959,Azikiwe installed his puppet Michael Okpara as premier of Eastern region of Nigeria and then travelled to WESTERN REGION and tried to covetously install himself as premier of Western Nigeria through his NCNC because they won majority seats in the parliament.

The sage chief Awolowo understanding the serpentine nature of the typical Ibo man and also understanding the domination and subjugation agenda of the Ibo supremacist Azikiwe quickly outwitted him by appealing to the Yoruba members of the NCNC to abandon Azikiwe and cross carpet from NCNC into the Action Group (AG) on the floor of the parliament thus giving the AG the majority in the WESTERN Region parliament and automatically making Chief Awolowo the Premiership.

It is not today the covetous nature of the Ibos began. Azikiwe has always coveted Lagos and Western Nigeria masked under his fraudulent and false pan Africa agenda.
Be not fooled. The agenda of all Ibo is greed, covetousness and ultimate domination of other people's lands.

Awolowo did a good job of preserving the Unity and cultural identity of Yoruba land. It is left for those he left behind to continue to defend the values and cultural identity of true omoluabi's and prevent these marauders from tainting one inch of the land.

The greedy Azikiwe quickly removed the Calabar man Eyo Ita as premier of the Eastern Region installed his puppet fellow Ibo Okpara as premier of the East and then proceeded to try and become Premier in Western Nigeria. Which true blooded Yoruba man would allow that? What you cannot allow in your region with a Calabar man you are now trying to practice in Western Region?

Now to the matter of Zik-Eyo Ita face-
off:On the eve of the 1951 elections in
which Azikiwe contested for a seat in the
Western House of Assembly from his
Lagos base, Zik declared that he was not
going to accept a ministerial post in “an
inferior legislature of the colonial type”.
In other words, he was not prepared to
serve as minister (premier or prime-
minister) at regional or national level in
the then premature Nigerian political
system. His object, he said, was to
achieve an NCNC majority in the regional
and central legislatures that would act to
“paralyse the machinery of government”
and lead to a reformation of the
Constitution.The Macpherson Constitution
had provided for “semi-responsible
government” at the centre and in the
regions.

The official phrase was “responsible
government within defined limits”. Zik did
not accept this. He wanted total
independence. This was what informed
his declaration above. It was a grand
tactics for national independence that the
Action Group later imbibed.

After the upheavals in the Western House
of Assembly,Zik began to rally his
partymen to the achievement of the
above-stated objectives. This took some
time. Eventually, however, the NCNC
resolved and called its central ministers
to resign in order to actualise the above
independence strategy.

But these ministers were now enjoying
their new stations in life, the perquisites
of ministerial office. Some of them did
not, therefore, want to give up the
positions. In so doing, they were
undoubtedly sabotaging and delaying the
independence struggle that had already
got them to where they were.
Three NCNC central (national) ministers
were the first culprits and were summarily
dismissed from the party. They were
A.C.Nwapa (Igbo), EniNjoku (Igbo) and
Okoi Arikpo(Ogoja).

ONLY DrEndeley (Cameroun) was
supportive of the tactics.Eyo Ita, the Head
of Government Business in Eastern
Nigeria and some of his ministers picked
against the policy and were flabbergasted
when the central ministers were
dismissed by the party. Of course, when
the party asked them to resign, they
equally rebelled against the party and
refused to comply. They became known
as ‘sit-tight ministers’.

Amongst them were EyoIta (Ibibio),E.I.Oli
(Igbo), S.J.Una (Ogoja), R.I.Uzoma (Igbo),
S.W.Ubani-Ukoma (Igbo) and
S.J.Koripoma (Ijaw). Those who complied
with party directive and resigned were

and S.T.Muna (Bamenda, Cameroun).

A simple look at those who backed Eyo Ita against Zik will show the non tribal nature of the East.
Eyo ita was backed by E.I Oli( an Igbo) S.j una( ogoja), R.I uzoma( Igbo) S.W Ubani-Ukoma( Igbo) and S.J Koripoma( Ijaw).

To suggest that Eyo ita loss was tribally motivated and not ideologically motivated, when we can clearly see that the majority of Eyo ita accomplices were Igbo, amounts to dishonesty and historical revisionism.

The East was united by shared ideology not ethnicity like in the West where the minorities including the Oba of Bini were treated like dogs.

With the above ‘sit-tight’ attitude of some of the ministers, it behoved the legislature to orchestrate the requisite action to paralyse government business, which was practically in the hands of the British Lt. Governor.

In the Eastern House of Assembly, the NCNC majority subsequently succeeded in paralysing the constitutional system by voting to defeat or defer every bill before the House. As a last resort, the Lt. Governor was obliged to use his reserve power of legislation, the ultimate proof of colonial rule and subjugation in a politically advanced dependency, to pass the Regional Appropriation Bill into law.

On adjournment day, the expelled ministers (Central and Regional) joined with a few other legislators and supporters who had resigned from the NCNC to form a new party, the National Independence Party, with EyoIta as president. Some 10 weeks later, the Eastern parliamentary crisis was resolved by dissolution of the Eastern House of Assembly following the enactment of an amendment to the Constitution permitting the dissolution of the legislature of a single region. During this period, according to Sklar, the strain on the Constitution was not confined to the Eastern Region, as events of a less dramatic but nonetheless fateful character transpired in the West. Action Group’s hostility to the Constitution was scarcely less than that of the NCNC. Ultimately, the Macpherson Constitution proved unworkable and collapsed as Zik had planned after 15 months of its operation and was replaced with a new Constitution (the Lyttleton Constitution of 1954) that granted residual powers to the regions and provided that apart from the Regional Governor, colonial officials of the administration would be excluded from the Executive Council of the Eastern and Western Regions, amongst other favourable provisions.

Meanwhile, with the collapse of EyoIta’s
government in May 1953, a new election
was conducted to elect new members to
the Eastern House of Assembly. Azikiwe
was elected from Onitsha; NCNC
dominated the House and its leader,
Azikiwe, assumed the office of premier or
head of government.
Eyo Ita as leader of the minor party in the
House became leader of Opposition.For
details of these historical facts, see
Richard L. Sklar, Nigerian Political Parties
(1963), pages 115 – 140. Amplifications
of particular points can also be gleaned
from James S. Coleman, Nigeria:
Background to Nationalism (1958).
Given the above prognosis, would it be
wise and correct for anybody to claim
thatZik or the Igbo conspired to oust Eyo
Ita from power? Or that the constitutional
crisis that terminated EyoIta’s government
was tribally motivated? But this is the
verdict or notion that has been
transmitted from generation to generation
in the South-South.

Finally, let me recap that in October 1959,
Professor EyoIta, Head of Government
Business and Minister of Natural
Resources of Eastern Nigeria from 1952 to
May 1953, resigned his leadership and membership of united national independent party ( UNIP) and rejoined NCNC

So, Eyo Ita fell from Grace to grass, and despite the fact that he enjoyed Igbo support, Eyo ita will descend low to the old tested and trusted " Igbo want to dominate us" mantra, he became the New poster boy for the COR movement, but when that wasn't yielding dividends, because while he was preaching "Igbophobia", NCNC still had henchmen like Mbu from COR area, showing the people the truth.

Eyo ita, will later rejoin NCNC in October 1959. In a typical if you can't beat them, you join them, Nigerian politicians style.

A Nairalander, Dougad, wrote this on my post and I agree with him because I had personally researched the two men myself.

About a year ago, I took my time to research on the two men (Awolowo and Azikiwe) and even though I’m Igbo, I couldn’t help but accept that Awolowo was smarter and more intelligent than Azikiwe.

Awolowo was trained in UK while Azikiwe was American trained.

I read their speeches and saw Awolowo’s visions were clear and lucid. But I found out he was an idealist. Azikiwe, influenced by American culture, was a pragmatist. Providing realistic solution to what is instead of grumbling about what ought to be.

But like you summed up, between the two of them, Azikiwe’s heart was purer.

Awolowo damaged Nigeria forever.

But you sit here and cheer Kemi Badenoch on while she labours to become Prime Minister of UK, right?

Utter nonesense.

Herbert Macaulay was the reason Yorubas voted NCNC and not Zik

Macaulay died on the eve of the elections and that made Zik the automatic head of the NCNC and would have led to Zik becoming the Premiere of Western Region.

At no time did Yorubas vote NCNC because of ZIk.

Back then , news travelled at a snail pace and if the Yorubas had information that Macaulay had died and Zik was to benefit from his death , they never would have voted NCNC.

Can you also tell us how ZIk mismanaged the NCNC after Macaulay's death that western Cameroon and the minority people of the present Niger Delta wanted out of the parasitic old Eastern region ?

But if Zik wants to aspire to lead Northern Region, Western Region, Eastern Region, he is allowed to do that. It's for those Region's to vote who they wish. When Zik was wanted to lead the Western Region, a Fulani man called Umaru Altine won elections to be Mayor of Enugu, capital of the Eastern Region

If Zik is not allowed to aspire to lead the Western Region, or any other Region except where he comes from, where is this 'One Nigeria' You people keep talking about?

"One Nigeria" has always been a big fraud
And the Mayor of Enugu happened to be the equivalent of the Premier of Western Region?
What a load of nonsense considering the antecedents of Azikiwe towards the Western Region.
Ibos and Fulani share the same philosophy, only their methods are different.

The simple answer is that 'one Nigeria' is a fraud! One Nigeria means that any Nigerian can aspire to any political office, anywhere in Nigeria. Wether that Nigerian gets elected is a different issue

Well, it's not a must that you unity beggars must be in one country with Igbos or Fulani. Some Igbos like me want total independence of the Igbo nation from Nigeria
