There are better opportunities for South easterners other than joining the military.
If you are Igbo, Just find your way in any aspect of commerce and you will be better of.

Never trust the Federal Government.
They could do this to make it look like the youths do not want to join the military, but I know that each year thousands from these States make every effort to join, but are turned back bc they either do not have the money to pay bribe or do not know a senior ranking military officer or both.

Yet, the military would spread this propaganda so it would serve as an excuse for their lopsided recruitment that would always favour certain regions over others!

So when Biafra happens, you won't have enough trained cadre of millitary officers.
Igbos are naturally brave, those that fought the biafra-Nigeria civil war were ordinary civilians but with just one week training they did very well on the battlefield without food and weapons for close to 3 yrs

Naturally, that's what to expect. Same cycle, no learning curve. In a few decades, most of the new recruits will be Lt. generals and major generals. When you have 40 generals from the North and about 5 from the South, is there any intelligent politician or resource manager that will place one of the five over all of them?
NCOs will be Lieutenant Generals?!
You're a joke

This is your problem, you don't think far or ahead. In few years again, there'll be more generals and major generals from other regions. And the natural thing is for the leadership to be chosen from among them. Then the representatives of those taking foolish decisions will stage walkouts and complain bitterly to CNN, and repeat.
Natural thing?

Presidents can retire a whole battalion of generals just to appoint their junior as the COAS.

Again, Igbos no send anybody papa.

You got lucky then...by 1967, the Nigerian army had lost a lot of officers, and had to train a lot of raw men from scratch. The Biafrans had a lot of good experienced officers (Madiebo, whose book I have read...shout out, and Azuchia)..so they were able to move forward..

But by 1968, numbers told, and the truth was that the Biafran army was fighting against a Nigerian army that was growing. It may lose some battles due to inexpreince (and joke officers...I'm looking at you M.Muhammed)., but they could replace men and materiel easily, while once Biafra lost Port Harcourt in 68, that made supplies difficult. Once the air war was lost, that even worsened things.

IN a war today between Biafra and Nigeria, there are far more trained tropps from other tribes (the middle belt always has large numbers in the army, they are the ones who really run the army, forget Hausas), and fighting against a Biafran army that has limited numbers. It would be a washout.

Gain experience from your enemy, learn from him, so that you can beat him'

I don talk my own.

Federal character is for fairness and equity in the distribution of public posts. Are you naive to think that there's fairness and equity in distribution? Don't you know the power and equality in numbers? Do you think that in Nigeria, they'll employ the same number of people for those that came with 500 and those with 5000? When the candidates are asked to make simple decisions, who do you think will be favored. Just for example, candidates should decide when or where to have an activity, or who will be the rep, or everyone sit in a place to be addressed. You're Nigerian and smart especially if from the South, but you allow the North to edge you in numbers.
use numbers for illustrations, I understand that Kano can have 5000 slots while bayelsa have 1000 slots but you can't tell me that the number of applicants in bayelsa will be less than the 1000 allotted, if it is distribution I understand it can vary from state to state, educate me more pls.

And you seem to be contradicting yourself, one part u talked about equity, then in another u talked about the Nigerian factor or something...

This one doesn't even understand how military hierarchy works.

So, a president will appoint a Fulani to a position because there are more Fulanis in his set?

Abeg delete this entire rubbish you typed here.

My friend biafran civilians fought that war and they did far better on the battlefield than the Nigerian troops, biafrans lacked food, weapons even boots to wear , while Nigerian troops had everything in excess from food, weapons, heavy artilery mortars, rocket launchers. Plus Russian fighter jets helping them from the air , hundreds of thousands of troops plus troops from Niger republic and Chad , Nigerian troops were not that good on the battlefield they were just better fed and armed

I will say this again

Remember Arminius.

Because he humbled himself and joined with the oppressors, he learned their ways, and eventually escaped to his people, and taught them how the oppressors do things.

And then at the Battle of Teutenbourg forest....the Germans beat the mighty Roman empire....

And made a Roman Emperor actually cry and ask for 'Varus, to give him back his legions'.

(The source of the info about Augustus Caesar weeping like a child is from Roman sources. The defeat was that bad).

Anyway, make we dey continue. Nigerians and biafrans no wan see wisdom...

Of course, there's the Nigerian factor. We've seen cases where people are not qualified or disqualified, and people from other states who are "qualified" somehow fill up the slots.
