The idea of creating new FCTs in Nigeria is not that bad. This proposal will ensure distribution of federal resources to other parts of the country, as well as rapid regional development. The Senate should deliberate on this matter and reach a conclusion sooner than later. For the records, I, cmanforall, is proposing these: 3 FCTs Head office- Abuja Branch offices- Lagos and Calabar (the structures and resources established in these cities when they were used as capital will be revitalised and utilised) Further proposals: Nigeria will run a system of one president with 2 Vice Presidents. Office of First lady will be scrapped! Abuja Office- Office of the President Calabar Office- Office of vice president 1 Lagos Office- Office of Vice president 2 Dear Nairalanders, what do you think? What is your opinion? Should the National Assembly push for this my proposal? |

Cmanforall:How does having these offices translate to growth and development in the society? |

Yoruba people of Lagos are currently asking Nigerians of other ethic nationality to leave Lagos insisting that the Lagos of today is the product of the Yoruba man’s ingenuity, trying to erase from documented history that Lagos was the longest Federal Capital Territory of the federation until recently. Lagos still enjoys special status till date and the benefits of being capital city will continue to embellish Lagos. Lagos is the product of the bringing together of the nation’s resources not and will never be the result of the Yoruba tribe. If anything the Yorubas have slowed down the development of Lagos. |

JagabanBorgu:It is another way to decentralise power. Having such offices will mean federal structures, parastatals, embassies/consulates etc. will be established in these places, if not already there |

Cmanforall:How's this different from regional government? Kuku scrap the federation once & for all |

TinubuCriminal:That's what it eventually become. Though in this my proposition, the VP1 &2 must not necessarily be from the region they oversee |

Cmanforall:Why Lagos? Why not Ekiti? |
| Re: Opinion: Creation Of New Federal Capital Territories (FCT) In Nigeria by Cmanforall(op): 10:19pm On Apr 15, 2025 |
ObosiLandlord:Because the Nation's resources were used in the State, when it was the capital. Simply put, because it was a former capital |

Cmanforall:The nation money has been used to develop Ekiti and Osun too. So one of them can be the new capital. Lagos was already developed and prospering before Nigeria was created. |

I think ondo, Ekiti, Oyo should be considered rather than Lagos state. This will help to bring development to other part of South Western Nigeria. |

In addition to what has been said, but with a twist, I’ll suggest the president’s official residence rotates amongst the 3-6 geopolitical regions. If we have a northern president, he should spend his time biennially in each southern regional FCT and vice versa! Firstly, security would improve in the region. More often than not the federal government of the day seems to be detached from the travails of residents in the regions of the country he’s not interested in. As a commentator once pointed out, a good president should not only rely on reports from his ministers. Secondly, FG is the biggest spender in every country, if the FG cyclically operates from other regions it will improve local commerce. Thirdly, a sense of belonging, those in the region can feel connected to the nation. Fourthly, accountability! Governors in the region would sit up knowing the president drives on the roads they’ve received funds to repair or construct. The list goes on and on… |

valentineuwakwe:It's too much for a country to have 6 VPs |

Another thought that came to mind is assigning VPs ministerial roles. People don't know what Shettima's duties are as current VP. Rather it will save resources from wasting on his office and the ministry he'd be handling |

MEEVEET:That's not good for a true democracy. There should be separation of power |
