<sup>Criticisms greet Tinubu's National Census Committee

Whilst Bagudu & Idris hail from the NW, Kwarra from NC, other members of the 8-man team hails from the SW</sup>

The outcry by some sections of the media on the committee formed by President Tinubu to create a report on the proposed National Census is entirely laughable and ill-informed.

The committee as it stands, bar the Principal Secretary to the President who will stand in for the President himself, consists entirely of officials whose current positions align with the agenda of the National Census. It will be abominable to form any such committee without them.

A look at the list again
- Chairman - Senator Atiku Bagudu (Minister of Budget and National Planning)

- ⁠Secretary - Mallam Nasir Isa Kwarra (Chairman, National Population Commission)

- ⁠Member - HM Muhammad Idris (Minister of Information and National Orientation)

- ⁠Member - Engr Abisoye Odusote (Director General of the National Identity Management Commission) (NIMC)

- ⁠Member - HM Wale Edun (Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy)

- ⁠Member - Zacch Adedeji (Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service) (FIRS)

- ⁠Member - Hakim Muri-Okunola (Principal Secretary to the President who)

- ⁠Member - Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration and Operations (Office of the Chief of Staff).

The question to be asked is who among these people, whose current offices are crucial to the success of any National Census to be conducted, should be removed?

Better still, how big should such committee have been all in the name of accommodating sentiments?

The task is just for three weeks and all the president requires is a report on how to combine finances, with our existing database alongside communications model to ensure the success of the much-needed census exercise.

Let us continue to trust the administration by looking beyond unwarranted premonitions which has stunted our growth for decades. We are about to have the best population census of our lifetime and no distractions should be encouraged.

If NiN is properly used and not like the deceptive BVAS of electoral process, it can greatly reduce multiple counts. Those ministries, departments and agencies that give room for control and manipulation of numbers or NiN must be closely monitored.

Let me also call for the addition of academicians and technocrats with expertise in bio data, computing, enterprise programming and record keeping to serve as an eye to the whole process. We are lucky to have a southerner there now and if they blow this chance, no excuses from the south. Tinubu should know this and avoid silly politicking. No inflation of figures in percieved APC strongholds. They may want to tow that path.

The committee has been expanded. More Nigerians would be included in the next committee.

The response is balanced and fair.

These are the issues,how was it even possible that the 'officials whose positions align with the agenda of the National Census,are all almost Yoruba's,is this not a good example of the reckless nepotism and tribalism going on in this government.

Well, I get it. Since we're basically running a government of Yoruba and "North", it makes sense that if you pick government officials at random or by agency headship and appoint them into a committee, such a committee would likely be entirely made up of people from a section or two of the country.

What the Tinubu acolyte and Socrates wannabe that wrote the above apologia is ignoring is that this won't have happened if Tinubu had not kept to his commitment to focus only on certain parts of the country for appointment.

If you are not happy with the committee, just tell your people that they should not allow any census adhoc worker to count them. SIMPLE
