Poverty And Insecurity Still High In Nigeria- IMF by SarcasticWords(op): 5:53pm On Apr 18, 2025
The International Monetary Fund, IMF, has said that Nigeria is still facing significant uncertainty in its economic outlook despite wide ranging reforms.

Concluding its 2025 Article IV Consultations with Nigeria’s public policy executives during the week, IMF’s team, led by Axel Schimmelpfennig, its mission chief for Nigeria, acknowledged that Nigeria has taken important steps to stabilize the economy, enhance resilience, and support growth.

They added that these reforms have put Nigeria in a better position to navigate the external environment.

However, they have concluded that the macroeconomic outlook is marked by significant uncertainty, adding that the elevated global risk sentiment and lower oil prices would impact the Nigerian economy.

They also concluded that gains have yet to benefit all Nigerians saying that poverty and food insecurity remain high.

They, therefore, recommended that macroeconomic policies need to further strengthen buffers and resilience, reduce inflation, and support private sector-led growth.

The final report of the consultations stated: “The Nigerian authorities have taken important steps to stabilize the economy, enhance resilience, and support growth.

‘‘The financing of the fiscal deficit by the central bank has ceased, costly fuel subsidies were removed, and the functioning of the foreign exchange market has improved.

‘‘Gains have yet to benefit all Nigerians as poverty and food insecurity remain high"

‘‘The outlook is marked by significant uncertainty. Elevated global risk sentiment and lower oil prices impact the Nigerian economy."

‘‘The reforms since 2023 have put the Nigerian economy in a better position to navigate this external environment. ‘‘Looking ahead, macroeconomic policies need to further strengthen buffers and resilience, while creating enabling conditions for private sector-led growth.

“The authorities communicated to the mission that they will implement the 2025 budget in a manner that is responsive to the decline in international oil prices. A neutral fiscal stance would support monetary policy to bring down inflation.

‘‘To safeguard key spending priorities, it is imperative that fiscal savings from the fuel subsidy removal are channeled to the budget.

‘‘In particular, adjustments should protect critical, growth-enhancing investment, while accelerating and broadening the delivery of cash transfers under the World Bank-supported program to provide relief to those experiencing food insecurity.

“A tight monetary policy stance is required to firmly guide inflation down. The Monetary Policy Committee’s data-dependent approach has served Nigeria well and will help navigate elevated macroeconomic uncertainty.

‘‘Announcing a disinflation path to serve as an intermediate target can help anchor inflation expectations.”

The IMF team had met with Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Yemi Cardoso, senior government and central bank officials, the Ministry of the Environment, the private sector, academia, labor unions, and civil society.

IMF is false on this one.

Nigeria is bubbling economically. Insecurity is now an extinct word, everywhere is safe and peaceful most especiallly in places like jos and bornu. Things are cheap and prices of goods and services are at an all time low.

The reforms and policies most especially those ordered by the IMF has paid off positively.

There is no insecurity or unemployment in Nigeria, you people should stop painting President Tinubu black just because he was a former drug lord, at least he made some sacrifice by forfeiting thousands of dollars to US government as restitution and has repented, so don't use his past against him angry

The headquarter of poverty, illiteracy and insecurity.

That's what's you get when a party threaten the peace of a nation if they were not declared winner in 2015 general election, continuing down to 2023 when a chieftain of same party said it's his turn to rule and also promised to continue from where his predecessor (a pronounced failure in leadership) stopped and Nigerians being naive and illiterates stood by the corner watching their future being stolen, killed, destroyed, eroded, spit and trampled on.

IMF is lying. Nigeria is the most safest country to leave at the moment. Agbado is doing a very good. Job. Poverty has been reduce to the lowest minimum
Re: Poverty And Insecurity Still High In Nigeria- IMF by Kelklein(m):
When you kept pushing the senseless government to devalue the currency as a condition for accessing loans.. this is the result!

And African leaders would sell their right arm if you ask for it as a condition to collect loan. You know why?! IMF, World Bank and Chinese loan money are the easiest to steal. Just tie it to a project that would never be executed. Once the rubberstamp Parliamentarians approve and collect their share at source, that's all. Nobody asks any questions about project execution again.

Look at it this way

When you borrow $1 million from IMF and Dollar rate for example is N330/$, you are owning N330 million. Then they push you to devalue in order to collect more.. the mumu you would devalue your currency to N1000.. now you are owning IMF N1 billion. The idea is to keep you dependent and subservient economically.

Now imagine if Dollar rate is N100/$, that means you can buy an IPhone of $1000 for N100,000, they don't want that. And it would also mean you can have more Naira to quickly pay them for the old loan you took which would now be only N100 million.. again, they dont want that.

The policies of the IMF are not only completely anti-people, but also inimical to the very existence of the people for whom they are prescribed.

I want to be educated, I shall be grateful if anyone would inform me about any country advised by these self-serving supranational institutions of the West that have become developed.

You are speaking like Ribadu.

Racoon:
National Security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has said that Nigeria has recorded over 90 percent improvement in terms insecurity under President Bola Tinubu administration.

Mr Ribadu stated this in Jos, Plateau State while briefing the press shortly after a meeting with the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyinlola at his office, following a gunmen attack on Bokkos community that left hundreds of residents killed.

According to him, President Tinubu administration will not relent in its efforts at ensuring peace and security in the country.

“In the last 1-year-ten-months, violent deaths have been reduced probably by over 90 percent in our country. We have the statistics, in 2022 and 2023 those who lost their lives as a result of extreme violence in the country has reduced,” Mr Ribadu disclosed.

The NSA stressed that a lot of bad people have been arrested and are undergoing investigations. “I can assure you that justice will be done, those who are found responsible will be prosecuted, we are doing it across the country.

“This Government has prosecuted close to 2,000 terrorists and we have got many convictions; we will not relent, we are serious, we are honest about what we are doing, we will do it to the best of our ability,” he said.
