What was his offense? What did he do that made them arrest him? Don't tell me it's because he supported someone who he believed could rule Nigeria and give Nigerians hope. Doesn't he have rights anymore? |

Nigeria's prisons are horrible and unhealthy for inmates. |

DixseenMktPlace:Is this a dignified way to be rich or it is the failed system of government that subjected him to such? The people are against the government is why they’ll support the boy. There was no basis to arresting him in the first place. It is an effort to silent dissenting voices and everyone playing a role to enthrone such dictatorial behavior will pay for it soon or later. There’s dignity in being rich through a legitimate labour that is not through government’s abduction of citizens because they don’t support them. Some people on Nairaland coming here to call people names because they don’t support this regime will do worse if they had the power to abduct and keep people in detention. |

papyjaypaul:Empathy is not hypocrisy or preferential treatment. The boy's issue has been and is still being politicized since day 1 without any attempt to tackle the systemic issue. 100% of the reactions have been because of politics, not because there are innocent people in prison. Be objective. He's not even innocent, he was arrested for violent street fighting. |

As much as I sympathize with him over his ordeal, the truth is HE IS LYING. His story is cooked up to attract sympathy. |

Image123:100% of reactions? Now this is a bold statement! Where you get am from, I beg? And he's not innocent, any evidence establishing his guilt No be competent law court acquit am? Or you get evidence wey we no know about? You see am for the violent street fight? You identify am as at 10pm for night? Wait a minute, wetin be the crime really? Violent street fight or armed robbery...as police been talk one before them change to the other...na which one we go take? Wetin be him age again? Why police allegedly falsify him age, lie to the court and put am for prison? Why? Many more questions beg for clear answers. |

Image123:Dude, you’re missing the point! Probably owing to being blinded by crude partisan and ethnic leanings! The point is that the young man shouldn’t have been locked up to begin with, never mind ‘being treated differently’! You have no sense of justice and fairness to have made this statement you just made! |

| Re: My Duty In Prison Was To Clean Faeces Daily — Quadri Alabi Recounts Ordeal by mexxy1(m): 11:33am On Apr 22, 2025 |
TONYE001:The Nigerian prison system is bad, yes. But, not as graphic as he's painted it. Who's faeces was he packing? Let's take away sentiments. There are warders and the prison system is regulated. There's no way he will be packing human waste. The boy is lying and I can tell you from experience. I had a business disagreement that took us to court and I got bailed but, couldn't meet up the bail conditions same day so, had to be remanded until the bail conditions were met so, I've been there. Not even fighting is allowed. There is law and order in the prison vicinity. It's a world of it's own with it's own rules but, nobody will dare ask you to pack human waste. You can be asked to wash the toilet and bathroom of your cell. That's usually regulated especially amongst those who do not have corner posts. And, most times as punishment if you were fined but, couldn't pay up. It's not a duty that you do. There is law and order in the prison even amongst inmates. By the way, he was in the Awaiting trial men cells. Even the prisoners who have been sentenced won't be asked to do that not to talk of him. He's lying to gain sympathy. Until you go there, whatever you hear outside is not really true. People move about freely in the compound, buying and selling of everything from foodstuffs to everything smokable (for those who indulge in that) happens daily and they even cook. Point is, he was held in confinement which he shouldn't have been but, he shouldn't paint the story to gain attention. By the way, standing in front of that convoy to an extent tells me he's not that very innocent boy he's been portrayed to be. He may not have been a part of what he was arrested and detained for but, I doubt he's the innocent person he's been portrayed as. |

It is completely unacceptable for a 15 year old teenager to be sent to such prison in the first place except for murder offense. |

The poor boy was just subjected to inhuman treatment simply because he has no one to fight for him then. |

mexxy1:Thanks for your response, well detailed, and clear. So sorry about your experience too, glad you made it out. I visited a prison facility while in training as a medical student. The situation I saw was deplorable, to say the least. We took a tour and I remember writing something about that on this site. While my visit only lasted for a few hours and yours was more extended, I should still say that conditions and instances are different. Even if you were in the same prison as the lad, things may have changed...or he could easily be exploited due to his vulnerability. Again, this could be a thing of language too. Maybe he may not have packed faeces and all that...maybe he was assigned to clean the toilet or something...but the toilet was constantly soiled so he had to "pack and clean things" regularly. Not that I'm entirely discarding the possibility of some falsehoods in his story. I'm just saying that from what I saw, and from the Nigeria I know, it's highly possible. This past election was very emotional. Was the most emotional for me, as a matter of fact. If PO had visited a location I was at, I probably would have done the same thing. Would this have suggested that I'm guilty of any crime? Absolutely no. Point is, the boy's action that day does not suggest any guilt, not one bit. I think this is an indirect political case. I don't think he went through this because he supported PO. I mean, some of the so-called area boys that set him up as told in his story may have even voted for PO. I think his actions exposed him to envy, and the usual Nigerian culture of "wanting your share" came in. Street boys felt they had a share of whatever money he got from PO and his team. This is my thinking. Again, I appreciate your view on this matter.... especially because you spoke from the point of experience. Thanks. |

Image123:‘Street fighting’!? Assuming the Nigerian police said this, you mean you can’t decipher that this was an afterthought told to the media just to save face!? When moves were being made to get him out, at no point did his lawyer or anyone else say he was ‘arrested for violent street fighting’! I’m sure i’m not the only one who would like to know the exact nature of this ‘violent’ street fighting, so we can distinguish it from ‘regular street fighting’! But all this is academic! Fact of the matter is the boy is still a juvenile, yet your corrupt Nigerian police saw nothing wrong in locking him up with hardened adult criminals! This is what should preoccupy anyone with a conscience who is interested in fairness and justice! |
