Ratio of mixture of concrete will determines how long u will wait but definitely not 24hrs.A real engineer can never tell you that

Well I’m not here for any show. I only did my findings because engineer was saying I can start the roofing the next day after casting. Which wasn’t comfortable with me.

That’s why I came here to ask. Well gotten my answers.

Why are you even asking this question? Should common sense not tell you the answer? People who clearly have no knowledge of building construction are building their houses themselves, and people wonder why houses fall left right and center in nigeria

For efficiency and effectiveness don't mind the engineer. Allow it set and cure before you do the roofing.

Parapet doesn't carry any load, so it can't set for load and your roof load entirely transferred to the roof beam (if introduced) or walls.

Parapet is just for aesthetic purposes

BTW, you can still continue roofing as hardening of concrete begins at least 8hrs after the pouring but creeps till 3days and then to 7 and 14. However, because the exterior parapet is a formwork in itself, it is ok to continue works.
Even with all these, I would wait for at least 3days just for surface hardening

When the money is too much... Yes you can. Incase anything happens, engineer and workers go still chop. 4-5days is okay

Of course, you can start roof carcassing and covering. Just ensure that the props and support to the concrete eaves(parapets) are still firmly in position. And also perform and ensure processes of concrete curing

It depends.. if it is precast parapet, it is not advisable.. once it is formwork , the wood and the prop is still bearing the loads. You can definitely start the roof in that gap ... parapet is not load bearing membrane.. yes your engineer is right..

If the building will collapse it will be either the beams, columns or footings failed.

Parapet isn't a load bearing structural members.

And they all assumed parapet can only be cast with concrete!

Concrete takes approximately 3 weeks to strengthen up, but some cut and nail engiwill tell you it's not a problem.


Tell him to wait but if he's in a rush he should give it at least 2 weeks
