Atiku Speaks On Defections Of Some PDP Members by iwaeda(op): 5:21pm On Apr 25, 2025
I have been overwhelmed with inquiries from concerned Nigerians, all eager to understand my position on the latest political shifts, particularly the defection of some PDP members to the ruling party.

Let me be unequivocal: freedom of association and expression are not optional in a democracy — they are fundamental rights. Alongside these stand the pillars of a just and functional democratic society: the people, the rule of law, credible elections, and accountability. Undermine any of these, and democracy itself begins to crumble.

As someone who holds fast to these values, I bear no grudges against anyone for exercising their right to political alignment. Defections, alliances, and realignments are part and parcel of democratic politics. We’ve seen them before, and we’ll see them again.

Some have resorted to insults because I visited former President Muhammadu Buhari. Let’s not rewrite history: Buhari is not only a former leader but a significant statesman in the Nigerian political landscape. During the 2013 opposition merger, the leaders of the time consulted widely — including visits to Obasanjo and Babangida. So why is it now sacrilegious for me and other leaders to visit Buhari in Kaduna? If you truly believe in freedom of association, then you must respect the rights of all political actors to engage, regardless of party lines.

When PDP leaders are busy sipping tea and brokering power deals with President Tinubu, it’s called strategic alliance. But the moment I greet Peter Obi, el-Rufai, or visit Buhari, it becomes a national emergency. Hypocrisy and the politics of selective outrage have never been this fashionable!

Let us be clear: the coming political battle is not APC versus PDP, or LP versus APC. It is Nigerians versus an administration that has plunged the nation into untold suffering. The economy is in freefall. Inflation is choking the masses. Jobs are vanishing. Youth restiveness is surging to terrifying levels. Nigerians are not just tired — they are angry, and rightfully so.

This moment is about collective survival. The real enemy is not one another — it is the Tinubu administration’s abysmal failure. We must reject every attempt to distract us with ethnic, regional, or religious sentiments. These are tools of manipulation, designed to divide and conquer, used by those with nothing else to offer.

The Tinubu administration has no achievements to stand on, no credible record to defend. Its only strategy is chaos and division, because that’s the last refuge of the incompetent. And make no mistake— an incompetent captain does not only wreck his ship; he endangers the lives of everyone on board. -AA

Atiku keeps talking like he cares about Nigeria but under Tinubu, at least things are moving forward, talk is cheap, real leadership is what we need now.

God bless Nigeria. God bless Tinubu. God bless Wike.

You are a bad leader who can't unite your party.

The problem which started before the election is still lingering on in 2025

If you can't unite ordinary your party, then drop the ambition of becoming Nigeria president as you would be terrible in conflict resolution

Most leaders aren't complete...

Or strong in all aspects.

People have weaknesses. Don't judge a man based on only a few flaws.

Atiku has his strengths!

Re: Atiku Speaks On Defections Of Some PDP Members by Hemanwel(m):
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been in Nigeria's political space for a very long time; and I expect that he should understand what it means when people say the south still has four more years to complete the southern presidency, based on the principle of power rotation between northern Nigeria and Southern Nigeria. Failure to recognize this is considered greedy on his part.

Therefore, the coalition should support a southern candidate in the person of Peter Obi. I still believe a Peter Obi/El-Rufai or Peter Obi/Kwankwaso ticket will dislodge Tinubu even before 5pm on election day.

My take!

Atiku, you didn't need to respond. PDP Chairman's response was sufficient.

Delta governor defected. Your own running mate defected.

You ran with Obasanjo in 1999 and 2003, he didn't trust you.

You ran with Ben Obi in 2007, where is he today?

You ran with Obi in 2019. He abandoned you. He didn't trust you.

You ran with Okowa in 2023, he has abandoned you. He didn't trust you.

When will you look at the mirror and ask WHY?

Must the coalition be about you?

Who has left you and ever came back, apart from El Rufai? With the things El Rufai wrote against you in his book, I am surprised you grant him audience.

Finally, you have talked about the problems.

Now, tell us your solutions apart from making your friends rich as you said. Also tell us your own scorecard with the 8 years you and Obasanjo ran things.

Truer words have never been spoken.
Since 2003 (22 years ago), they cannot even complete their PDP National Headquarters despite billions of naira they raised for the completion.
Shameless people they are.

They will be shocked to think that it will be Nigerians against them. It's good how they are showing where their bellies lie before 2027. Let's separate the wheat from the chaff.

Not only him, they are many. But he's no different from Tinubu who should have let someone else run and remain the godfather he claimed to be but godfather sef Wan hustle. They are all hustlers. It's all about their bellies not the nation. Have you forgotten when they revealed Tinubu wanted to be Buhari's vice and he objected because it was Muslim Muslim? Shey they said he is the Guardiola of political talents, he can select like Ferguson and mentor like Zidane. It's all packaged lies, thank God he is now President and we can see him for who he is. Those who knew him from Lagos know they are just packaging lies for national. The same man brought Buhari to us for his selfish ambitions, he and Atiku are not really different, one of them just gbajue pass the other one. Didn't they both work together in the past? Atiku has been on this since 1993, this is 32 years. Is he and Tinubu not telling us that in 30 years, they did not know how to build young people that will lead Nigeria? Atiku worked to destroy PDP from within so that he could get the AC ticket and be president. The only reason he is not in APC today is because Tinubu is there and he can't have his way with him there. Didn't they both have deals for PDP tsunami in 2007? All of them is about me, me, me, me, me. They just want to satisfy that desire to be called president even if age or their health will not allow them to do well. They are selfish and believe they can buy everyone with money. There's no much difference between Atiku and Tinubu, it's just friends in different parties and one of them got what the other wanted badly.

Most of the elders around 80 should be ashamed of themselves.

Edit: I want Atiku to keep staying in PDP. While you may think he is the problem of PDP, he is also a problem to his friend, Tinubu. Tinubu also wants to be sure that his money bag friend won't contest against him in 2027. It is part of eliminating the competition and knowing those who can be bought. It's better not to give in easily until the final moment. APC also wants to see what cards opposition will throw at them, that's why you see them attacking Obi the 3rd more than Atiku the 2nd. Atiku is their customer and he still has a base in the North no matter what you think. Don't make it easy to predict. APC and PDP did not plan for what happened with LP in 2023 within short notice. 24 hrs is a long time in politics. No one knows tomorrow.

Someone on this forum said Tinubu should appoint Peter Obi as CBN Governor so that Obi can rest, I laughed.

Peter Obi that owns a majority share in a popular Nigerian bank legitimately with plenty other thriving businesses in and outside Nigeria is who you want to appoint as CBN Governor under a known corrupt man who was never elected President legitimately via the polling units?

Obi is richer than Bola Tinubu if you take away looted money or Lagos treasury.

Peter Obi is not contesting to become President of Nigeria to make money, whatever money that comes from it is just a jara.

As someone close to PO, let me divulge a secret to you guys here, Peter Obi is contesting to become President for three main reasons:

1.) To leave a legacy of being the President that changed the direction of Nigeria by transferring political power from corrupt old politicians to qualified youths from all regions of Nigeria including those living abroad. And refocusing Nigeria from being a consumption based nation to a production based Nigeria through massive human capital investment development of Nigeria's youth population, mechanized agriculture, technology and innovation.

2.) Peter Obi want to return peace to Southeast and stabilize Southeast, end the decades of political marginalization of Southeast so that agitation for secession by Igbos can stop, so that he can be remembered for good by Igbos.

3.) To make Northerners and other Nigerians understand that they made huge mistake sidelining Igbos in national politics and not allowing a credible Igbo person emerge Nigeria's President by being fair to all regions of Nigeria and making sure every region harness the best of the resources they are blessed with; massive investment in agriculture for North, etc, and massive investment in Tech with a focus on Lagos, Oyo, Edo, Enugu and Plateau.

Total revamping of Nigeria's health sector through investment in Nursing and medical colleges so they can produce more competent healthcare professionals that Nigeria can export abroad to earn forex.

4.) He wanted to end insecurity with a secret plan I will not share here.

Nigeria missed a lot sha, God will help una for there.

Meanwhile, if Atiku and El Rufai truly want to bury Bola Tinubu's 2027 Presidential ambition, they should hurry up and announce Peter Obi as their preferred Presidential candidate for the coalition, making it clear that Northern Nigerians will throw their support behind Obi in order to rescue Nigeria from poverty, insecurity and eventual collapse due to nepotism of the incumbent President.

Once they do this and start massive orientation of their people in the North, Tinubu will become a gunner, Tinubu and his allies will be thrown into confusion because no amount of rigging will make Tinubu win once this is done.

But if Atiku thinks he can be the Presidential candidate of the so called coalition, then they should be assured that Tinubu will win hands down even without rigging.

Peter Obi won 2023 Presidential election, if Atiku, El Rufai and the rest of the North back him in 2027, no matter the rigging, Tinubu will go nowhere cool
