But isn't a fundamental part of the problem the fact that the Police, EFCC and other crime prevention organisations are also enmeshed in some degree of corruption.

Also, Teachers, mechanics, Professors, tailors, nurses, lawyers, surveyors, name it. There is corruption everywhere.

What makes a corrupt politician more deserving of arrest than a tailor you give 5 yards to but hides 1.5 yards for himself, and sows you an attire that is 1 size smaller than your normal size?

If you insist that all corrupt politicians must be arrested. I agree, but I also want all corrupt people, including that tailor to be arrested.

But that's not going to happen until we have enough prisons to accommodate at least 50 million manifestly corrupt Nigerians sad

So it is inevitable that some thieves, including allegedly corrupt politicians will escape. The system simply can't handle the scale of the corruption in the society.

Have you ever asked yourself, why China gets so many investors from all over the world ?
Everybody, USA,UK/Canada, Australia all take the production and manufacturing to China.
China has a capital punishment for corruption. If you loot and they catch you. !! You die !!
Nigerians loot settle and loot more. No one is ever going to take us serious.

They are all the same. Don't use tinubu corruption to excuse GEJ corruptuion. If that man had controlled the corruptuon under his regime, we won't have had APC and Buhari and tinubu taking over by now. angry

Same thing with Shagari. If Shagari had controlled his minions corruption, we won't have had the disastrous millitary rule of 1983-99.

APC Is very corrupt, and they are hypocrites, but GEJ, and by extension all his PDP predecessors were just as bad.

You NIgerians should vote them all out and vote for someone else, but no, all of you like buhari, tinubu, gej, obasanjo, etal. SO, the looting continues.
Tinubu’s corruption? shocked shocked shocked

So you know that he has his own domain, corruption, as you said, yet you supported him.

Most police investigations are based on a degree of speculation. Police can arrest you if it has a reasonable cause to believe that you're connected to an alleged crime. If the investigation establishes that the arrestee is not connected to the crime, then the arrestee is released.

What's important is for the Police not to abuse the 'reasonable cause' basis for initiating or embarking on an arrest.

As for Mr Yahya Bello, he underwent a police investigation, and his case is proceeding in court. The Nigerian constitution permits him to 'walk free' - as you put, until and if the court finds him guilty.
Just say NPF. This is not the global best practice.

The best practice is to establish evidence before any form of arrest.

There is a word called deterrent. When people at top are punished,it serves as deterrent to a lot others. So we don't need that capacity of prisons to fight corruption .

While it’s true that the constitution presumes innocence until proven guilty, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The same constitution allows ordinary Nigerians to be thrown into jail within 10 days over mere allegations—many without trial for months or years. Yet, high-profile politicians accused of stealing billions walk free for years, shielded by endless court delays, injunctions, or outright withdrawal of cases.

Take Peter Odili for example—since 2007, he’s been protected by a perpetual injunction stopping the EFCC from even investigating him. Saminu Turaki was charged with laundering billions in 2007, but his case is still unresolved almost 20 years later. Orji Kalu’s conviction was overturned on a technicality and he’s yet to be retried. Ladoja’s case has dragged on since 2008 with no closure. Danjuma Goje’s corruption case was withdrawn by the Attorney General.

It is not just about the law, but a lack of political will and deep-rooted judicial corruption. If ordinary citizens are denied such leniency, then justice in Nigeria is clearly not blind—it’s selective.

that is why we have become so used to doing things wrongly. Why not complete your investigation and collect all the required evidence before you arrest people

Achimugu arrested on speculative unsubstantiated allegations.

Yahya Bello walking free with hard evidence of looting and corruption and visible assets 100x his salary and income.

Tinubu's Idea of fighting corruption.
Yaya Bello was granted bail by court of law. Na you people go still cry about witch-hunt if he was not granted bail.

And bail or not ? Is 2 years not enough to prosecute a straight forward corruption case ?

Look at senator Mendez democrat in America already tried and prosecuted and given 11years jail term.

Look at congressman George Santos in America also sent to jail for 7 years.

All these cases were started after Yahya Bello. Justice delayed is justice denied. Yahya Bello should be in Jail by now.

As much as I believe 2 yrs is enough to do investigations, I believe it’ will be difficult when it involves Nigerians , especially our politicians.

They’re technology to detect crime in USA such as lie detector and co which we don’t have.

Again, you people like to compare Nigeria to other countries which is very wrong. We can never be compared as we’re very different
