Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has blamed the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election on the choice of former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Moro who stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday also described the choice of Okowa as a “serious mistake”.

The Senator representing Benue South at the National Assembly further lambasted Okowa over his claim that he regretted being the PDP vice presidential candidate.

Moro said Okowa 's inability to have ensured victory for PDP in Delta in the presidential election showed that his “soul” was not in the party.

Didactic Information Hut reports that Okowa, Gov Sheriff oborevwori and many other PDP stakeholders have dumped the PDP for the APC on Monday.

They're coming to the point we were making then.

Atiku was senseless to have picked Okowa thinking he had any political might.

Okowa underperformed as a governor, he's not popular and was not a force, but Atiku wanted a docile VP.

Imagine picking Wike as running-mate - he'd have had full support of the 5 governors and that would have added to his numbers.

He knew Wike was performing, he was spending on PDP, even though he lost the ticket, he should have been chosen, but they went for that Akuya.

He should have let Ayu go and picked Wike. The moment Okowa's name popped up, I knew Atiku has lost the election cos Wike would fight him from within and that cost him.

Once you knew peter Obi was out, keeping wike close was his best shot.

You see how APC is using him to show PDP how he should be used - he's a big political asset.

No. If Atiku had won, those conversation would not have happened.

The mistake PDP made was splitting into mainstream PDP, Obi's faction, Kwankwaso's faction and Wike's faction. Obi's faction swept away PDP's traditional base in the southsouth and southeast. Wike's G5 faction had Atiku roundly defeated with Tinubu taking Benue, Oyo and Rivers; and Obi taking Abia amd Enugu. Kwankwaso's faction annihilated PDP in Kano as Atiku came a distant 3rd.

What ruined PDP was Atiku's refusal to work with those who could have made the difference. His refusal to reconcile with Wike was an opportunity for Tinubu to make a political deal with Wike. His current refusal to court PDP leaders by acting like the headmaster is why Tinubu would win them over.

Okowa was not Atiku's albatross in the 2023 elections. Atiku's albatross was Atiku: failing to work with those who mattered.

Atiku has consistently shown a serious lack of strategic skill in politics—an essential trait for anyone aspiring to be president. Take Obasanjo, for example: he once went as far as kneeling to beg Atiku for support in securing a second term because he recognized Atiku’s strong influence and likelihood of clinching the PDP ticket during the primaries.

Personally, I was never in support of Atiku winning, but I believe that if he had resolved his differences with Wike and chosen him as his running mate, the PDP would likely have emerged victorious. Unfortunately, Atiku seems too consumed by self-interest to make such pragmatic decisions.

Atiku should take a simple PGD course in LEADERSHIP

Atiku missed his chance to presidency. Although I won't blame him. He was working on the information he received from the Aso Rock. He was told he was Buharis preferred candidate. That was why he never descended to settle his rift with Wike.

Honestly, I have given up on Naija politics. No shame in any Naija politician, as long as it serves them and their families interest, they will move back to their vomit. Even the Senator Abba Moro speaking, was he not the one that conducted a recruitement where people lost their lives??

That being said, the only way to unseat Tinubu for now is for Atiku to form alliance/agreement with Obi, Atiku/Obi, President/Vice president. Atiku; four years and Obi Eight years

PDP's punishment for suffering Nigerians for 16 years, is that they will continue to be in disarray until the party finally scatters grin

There is no decision that they will ever make, that will ever be right for the party. Even the decisions they are yet to make, is faulty by default grin

Their biggest misfortune is that Tinubu a core politician becomes the president. By the time BAT completes 8 years PDP would have been buried grin
