The $ALPACA Trap: How a Delisting Turned Into a $3B Liquidation Carnival
It started like any other token delisting.

On April 24, Binance announced the removal of four low-liquidity assets—including $ALPACA. The token, expected to fade into irrelevance, instead exploded, surging 150% within hours. That alone caught the eye of short sellers—after all, who would seriously buy a token on its way out?

Then came April 25. #ALPACA surged another 175%, only to be slammed down again. Binance quietly adjusted the funding rate calculation from every 4 hours, to 2, then 1. Shorts piled in, believing this was a classic “dead cat bounce.” But the bounce wasn’t dead. It was bait.

By April 29, funding rates were raised to 4% per hour—an insane figure that all but guaranteed pressure on short sellers to exit or be wiped out. And on April 30, ALPACA soared to an all-time high. Liquidations in just 4 hours topped the entire network. The open interest reached $110 million, with a 24-hour volume of $3 billion.

Behind the scenes, the project team held no tokens. Market makers dumped their allocations right after the delisting notice. Who held ALPACA now? Mostly one entity—likely the “shell owner,” or someone aligned. They weren't trying to sell. They were hunting.
The market maker had built a perfect trap: use the delisting to spark panic, run up the price to lure shorts, let the high funding rate churn them, and then harvest liquidations as price kept rising. They didn’t need to sell to profit—just push the price and watch the shorts implode.

The irony? What was meant to be a cleanup operation to protect users from “bad” tokens turned into a sophisticated liquidation scheme. A coin no one wanted became a money printer—not because of fundamentals, but because of systemic blind spots.

If there's a lesson here, it’s this: shorting is never “free money.” While long positions cap your loss, shorts come with infinite risk. And when the rules shift mid-game, even a smart trader can get swept away.

I learned from everyone on YouTube, but the two people I took their words seriously were Ben and Steve.

Funnily, Ben is the opposite of Steve.

He said he doesn't like TA and doesn't even bother to know the difference between a hammer and gravestone doji. He's all about 95% macros and 5% TA.

Steve on the other hand, doesn't care at all about macros, he sees it as noise and distraction. He's 100% all about TA and what's on the chart and 0% about macros.

Miraculously two of them are always 80-95% right in their forecast.

Now, this made me realize it's not really what you do, but how well you do it. The moment you're an expert at it, you'll succeed even if it's the least followed route.

This is to say, 2x leverage or 100x leverage isn't bad. The question is: are you an expert at it? Do you have your risk management locked?
Have you taken the time to master how it works like a pro?

The 3rd guy on the list, Camirand, stumbled on him this year and he's been posting for 4 years. I like his method too because he's a combination of Steve and Ben and also a combination of the last two guys below, whom I found this year as well.

So, with this, I'll soon withdraw from most macro news and only focus on when QE / QT starts and stops and the volume/price on the chart. 70% of my data nowadays is spent on watching Donald Trump this, Tariff that, US this, recession that. The noise is too much.

I just love Steve's method, Ben's QE / QT and BTC dominance advocacy and Camirand's use of Colin's M2 Global supply + everyone's elses ideas in a concise manner.

With this, I'll waste less time on YouTube on American issues and focus on what's on the chart and the 4 year cycle with a few other things.

Summary: it's not what you do, but how well you do it.

The market rewards a diligent specialist.

If you look at the chart very well, you'll find out that the market is still very bearish especially for altcoins. We'll still chop tomato from now till April/may before we can see any significant uptrend.

The recent negative GDP report did not adversely affect the market's. The dip there was was bought up. I'm still optimistic that the resistance shall be broken through, and the 96K shall come. Uptrend
