The deal took 3 years partly because India wanted free movement/greater number of visas for its students and workers which the UK under Boris Johnson, and subsequently, refused.

This deal apparently doesn't change the immigration requirements for Indian nationals, although I expect that those who qualify for visas may receive some preferential treatment, e.g quicker processing. They'll also be excluded from any future visa clampdowns such as the one recently announced for Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nigeria.

I'm not sure if they will pay IHS though, I think the company is usually responsible for paying the surcharge for its employees for the transfer period[b][/b].

Lets see how it plays out I can just see some firms setting up companies in India and then "transferring" workers to the UK en masse on sub-3 year contracts.

Only applies to temporary Indian transfers as they would be paying social security contributions in their own country - and vice versa with British transfers to India.

Similar arrangements already exist for transfers from the EU, US , Singapore and others

This is not a good deal overall for the UK - reflecting the general lack of strength on their side. It'll make Indian workers proportionally cheaper to hire. I can see Reform already gearing up.

So it's been "softly" confirmed that Indian expats/ intracompany transfer workers will still have to pay the NHS surcharge (or their company pays it for them).

There's still no official comms on this, in fact it's been noted that there's quite a large information gap around the terms of the deal, which hasn't done Labour any favours (yet again!) because their poor Comms has led to negative headlines and spurious debates that have soured the deal announcement. They need to look into employing Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair's former and very effective spin doctor.

Thanks. I gingerly dipped into the Torygraph this morning, all suited up in protective clothing, and they had an article on this, citing Reynolds.

Regarding Labour's comms efforts (or lack thereof); as a committed left-of-centre voter, it does nigh on drive one to despair. Especially the unforced errors like this one or the employer NI increase or VAT on private school fees. At this rate Farage will very very soon be parking his tanks in front of the whole of Victoria Street or wherever it is Labour HQ hangs its hat (I think I might be out of date, back in Cameron's time both Labour and the Tories were on the same street).

On a slightly tangential note, what do you make of the timing between the FTA announcement and India striking Pakistan? Curious or pure coincidence?

" Poor" Pakistan though - imagine being pulled into a fight with your neighbour when they've just gained a new international, influential ally.
Will Starmer be able to remain neutral when he's now much more closely aligned with India?

Lol. For what its worth, these negotiations were started under Johnson and carried on by Sunak and now Starmer, so at some point Badenoch was involved therein and may rightfully claim some of the credit (if it is generally accepted by her side that its a good deal for the UK, of course).

Flew via Amsterdam in April; I didn't have a transit visa. However I need to state that I have a valid Canadian visa but I honestly don't know if that made a difference.

I think one doesn't need a transit visa if you have American/Canadian visa on your passport. However, I would love to hear from people that have travelled with KLM to Nigeria with just UK evisa before I go ahead with my booking.

I know friends who have flown to Nigeria via KLM in recent months, and they had no issues, so you're good with the E-visa. Having a valid US or Canadian visa is also a valid reason. I will always encourage anyone with a UK resident visa to acquire a US or Canadian visa, as it also helps.

Ha 😳 10k every week? Sounds good really. I do mutual funds (money market funds) with ARM (any other funds manager also that offer such) and I think they offer more.
