You can't connect external wifi to the airtel box even if you unlock it, you will only be able to change the airtel sim card to other networks.
I unlocked mine last week and I can only use other sim network on it (currently using mtn sim card on my airtel TV box).
Unlocking the box only works for the router part, not the android TV.

I bought a WiFi adapter on Saturday to test, but didn't work either. Still checking if I can upgrade the firmware though.

Probably I got the wrong WiFi adapter, but wouldn't want to over spend and still not work.
You can try other types if you wouldn't mind.

NOoooo ... once there's no light connected, its only the internet router in it that works... The android tv box part goes off

Mine still boots to normal home screen and i still used it to play games sef this afternoon, without data.
