- Find a school. - Find a supervisor. - Research on their field(s) of interest. - Contact the supervisor. - Present the supervisor with your proposed PhD thesis or if you prefer to work on their subject area. - If they agree to supervise you then... - Contact the school to get their agents in Nigeria, if they have any, for the school application. - Contact the agent and they will take it off from there. - All the best. ifyjobs: |

Thanks for your reply. I applied to a university already, also reached out to supervisors but only one of them replied saying he's no longer accepting supervision CalabarSamurai: |

I think your PoF should be in a bank with branches outside of Nigeria - sounds redundant because who is putting PoF in Micro-Finance bank. ![]() |

CalabarSamurai:Good day chair. I aim to start the application process soon. I am registering for IELTS tomorrow and I have some few questions for you. I am going in for a Masters in Either one of Environmental conservation or Masters of Park Management, in Lincoln University. 1. Most programs in Lincoln have their next start date as February 2026. Does this mean that there are no September intakes in New Zealand? 2. If there are September intakes, can you suggest one or two Universities in Regional areas for me? 3. For the POF, do I need to have the complete $20k living expenses, $57k school fees and ~$5k all in my account before I can get approval? I mean, I may be able to get the school fees of 30k for the first year and use POF guys for the living expenses but that's about it. 4. Do you advise for a 1 year masters instead of the 2years I am considering? My target is in the Environmental protection/conservation and wildlife field which I have a bsc already in. 5. I have a master's from a Nigerian University already. Do I need to state this anywhere in my application or just bin it? I am going for a masters still. |

Great! Thank you so much. 3. So this means the POF is basically the $20k+ ~5k. So one can borrow and pay school fees then use the POF money to settle the loan after movement and settlement in NZ? Also, I work for an EU registered company as a remote worker. My contract is slated to expire this month. I receive my pay from them through several of this fintech apps and send directly to my bank account. I hope this is good proof enough if the money I have received from the fintech amounts to the $25k? NB: do not quote while replying as I will edit the sensitive (borrow) parts out after your reply Finally, Congratulations in Advance for your success. May God come through for you as you have been coming through with help and info for others on this thread. |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 8:27am On May 18, 2025 |
Thank you I realized the mistake by the time I posted the reply. I will redo it later. PoF for 12 months/ 1 year / 120 Units = 20k (living cost) + 5k (ticket) + budget for accommodation (not stated on their website but I recommend adding this to your budget and in the SoP/Cover_Letter). PoF for 18 months / 180 units = 30k + 5k + Budget for accommodation. The issue with the finances would be evidence of where you got the money from (which they must easily confirm) and if you have access to that money via regular account debits which must not go below the minimum PoF. Addition: If the course is more than one year, you only pay for the first year and then you will do a funding plan for how you would pay for the remainder of the course That’s just the finances part. From this new post, you have another huddle which is the home ties, as a contract staff with contract expiring this month, what exactly ties you to Nigeria (do you have a registered business here? Do you have family that you support etc). I recommend contacting IDP they don’t charge a dime and their agents can help with your profile. DISCLAIMER: I don’t work for IDP neither do I get any benefits, I am just here to help fellow applicants increase Nigeria’s very low approval level. SanThiago: |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by SanThiago: 8:44am On May 18, 2025 |
CalabarSamurai:Thank You and I have understood everything about the POF and will talk to an IDP agent like you suggested. For the home ties, I only have aged parents I take care of. No wife and kids and no plans for that anytime soon. Will it suffice if I can get my EU company to give me a letter of leave, stating that they are giving me 2 years to go and study and come back to Africa, and that I can only work with them while in Africa so they will pause my contract until I come back. I have a very good rapport with my HR and I can get her to run this for me instead of a termination letter, then we run a termination letter in advance of 3 months after I leave Nigeria. |

SanThiago:Since you have masters, why don’t you apply for PhD? Also, if the graduation date of your masters degree is not more than 3 years, some of the uni if not all, will exempt you from IELTS |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 12:42pm On May 18, 2025 |
I would not recommend doing this - it’s wrong. How sure are you that the HR won’t deny the authenticity of the document issued to you when the VO calls to confirm. Instead is your work experience relevant to your intended Masters degree program? If your work experience flows with your intended masters program, and you can show how it helps further your career, and you can sort your finances, you may have a chance. Talk honestly (so they know the full picture) to the IDP agent and I am sure they can suggest something that surprisingly might work for you. SanThiago: |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by SanThiago: 1:47pm On May 18, 2025 |
Peaceful123:Thanks for this suggestion. I will explore it as well. It's the POF I'm thinking about since more years means more money in school fees. Also, is there possibility of a slight deviation from masters course to PhD? I did Parasitology in Masters and want to do Environmental conservation or management now. I know they are related a bit but can one do it? |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by SanThiago: 2:01pm On May 18, 2025 |
CalabarSamurai:Great insight. Thanks. They are not directly related but like you said, an in-between connection can be worked. my work is writing in crypto Currencies, crypto mining. since I am going for an Environmental course. I can try to relate the impact of Crypto mining to Environmental degredation. It's far fetched but what do you think? |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by SanThiago: 2:36pm On May 18, 2025 |
Peaceful123:Also, another consideration I am having. If I researched right, I think countries In the Aussie region do no give Post study Visa to people over 35 years. If I go for PhD, I might be a few months, or even a year over 35 by the time I am rounding up. |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 6:45pm On May 18, 2025 |
See nice Masters or PhD topic.”Impact of Cryptocurrency generation on environment sustainability”. I would still recommend sitting with an expert and going through your profile, if you can overcome the finances and make a strong case in your SoP/Cover_Letter, you can stand a chance. SanThiago: |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 6:46pm On May 18, 2025 |
Australia is not smiling for 35 year olds and above, unless you are doing a Masters by Research or a PhD. But that’s the only info that I know. SanThiago: |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by blaze007(m): 7:51am On May 19, 2025 |
The schools won't even give you admission not to takk of getting visa. You have said it all, go for masters in research or PhD if u are over 33 years old. CalabarSamurai: |

CalabarSamurai:Does this apply to New Zealand as well? or just Australia? |

Just Australia based on my knowledge. SanThiago: |

Kai use IDP to get your admission, and then upload your documents yourself, there is a video showing you how to apply for your study visa application. Well, I guess this is what happens when it is free. |
New Zealand Student Visa • Australia Or New Zealand Student Visa! • New Zealand Student Visa: • 2 • 3 • 4
Nigerians At Ukraine • Anyone Studying In Belgium? • Poland Work Visa
