Newly Bought Nigerian Used 2013 Camry Engine Is Bringing Smoke "Details Inside" by BlindAngel(op): 12:53pm On May 23, 2025
Hello Nairalanders, I got a Nigerian used 2013 Camry yesterday for 12m, I initially wanted to buy a direct Belgium but I was short of funds, I was Informed that direct Belgium Is 15m to 16m. I had no choice other than to go for Nigerian used, I went to a car stand to seek for Nigeria used, I went alone to buy It, my mechanic said he was busy so I couldn't wait, and went all alone.

The mistake I made was not drive test It before making payment, I didn't bother to test It because the engine was clean without oil stains. I recently discovered and was told that the seller washed the engine with chemicals, and that's the reason It was clean.

To cut long story short, after making full payment, I decide to test the car. While testing, the car would make a loud cranking sound whenever I passed speed breaker or gallop, I notified the seller and he called a mechanic, the mechanic charged 17k but the seller refused to pay, so I paid, but the problem still persist, another mechanic was called and he said it's from the steering that it'd be worked from the bottom, he charged 40k which I paid and the problem was solved. I also spent 40k to buff the car. Next, I negotiated with the seller boy, regarding what he'd charge to deliver the car to my location, he charged me 40k, I paid and went home, as It was getting dark. I was told that the police already know him on the road, that they won't disturb him even without papers.

Next day, the seller boy drove the car to my location and left, about an hour later I decide to test the car, but I noticed that the AC wasn't working, I opened the bunnet and I saw that the engine belt has totally cut off, I went to a nearby mechanic and he helped me to buy another belt for 16k and helped In replacing It, Workmanship was 6k, the work didn't take any time though.

While testing I was careful, observing the road for fear of police stopping me and asking for the car papers, as I'm yet to do my papers.

To cut long story short, barely 15 minutes after driving I smelt something burning, I came down opened the engine and I saw steaming smoke coming out of the engine, I was confused, because the engine and everything regarding the burnet was so extremely hot.

I opened the radiator and saw It was completely empty. There was no water around, so I bought a bag of water and used it to fill the radiator, In a space of 4 minutes drive, the water has completely dried up again.

I was confused and riding straight to my mechanic because the car was very hot, I was almost close to my mechanic when the car started jerking and engine switched off on the middle of the road, I tried to start the car multiple times but it'd not start. I got help and we managed to push the car to my mechanic workshop, he Inspected It and told my that my top gasket has burnt, he charged 140k to have It fixed, and I pleaded for 120k, he said he's going to change oil, after fixing the gasket. So I made a deposit of 80k balancing 40k, he told me to come next week Wednesday, that's when he'd be able to finish the work.

Right, now I regret buying this car, In all my life and day to day existence, I have never regretted anything as much as this ever before, I told my mechanic that I would sell It, but he advised me not to that I won't sell It more than 10m that I would short 2m, just like that. I'm still using my 2008 camry, until Wednesday when the newly bought 2013 camry would be fully ready, I'm really so devastated.

From reading your posts I just understand say different people get different issues.

My advice would be to also purchase a mechanic when you get another Nigerian Used car because I know say you go still buy another one.

If I would be buying another, I won't ever buy a Nigerian used car ever again, I might take the risk and sell both 2013 and 2008 camry to buy a direct Belgium 2012/2013 camry, lessons learnt and I learnt It the hard way.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
But I advised you from the previous thread that you should confirm if the 2013 model is in good shape before paying bcuz the 2008 model consumes too much fuel
But I still don't understand how I can buy a car without testing it round,What's the hurry For?

I wanted to be harsh in my reply but no need, how are you buying a Nigerian used without going with a mechanic or a scanner to scan faults .You didnt test drive a car you bought for 10-12m or more

look for a reliable workshop , where they have a scanner, scan that car properly and see the faults ,stop throwing money around to kazeems ..

You shouldn’t have been in a haste to buy the car when your mechanic said he isn’t available or busy.

Cars are not something you buy hastily.

I’m sorry but a lemon was sold to you.

I think the OP is just catching cruise.he is always in a hurry to buy Nigerian used cars. From what I understand,he is in trauma, the Toyota muscle he bought Nigerian used is what he is using as a yardstick. He did not buy any useless camry 2013 model.he is still driving g the useless camry muscle and it's been giving him issues cos he refused to buy toks engine and kazeem has eaten him deep .he is a liar. Check his threads.ita always abt camry camry camry.in reality, its thw muscle.

I really can’t fathom the kind of hurry I’m always hurrying, eg. I have an S24 ultra and 13 pro max, but the day I wanted to buy touch light, I could not sleep all night, I was awake and restless for dawn to arrive so I could go.

I have a deep freezer already, but the day I bought my standing fridge, I couldn’t sleep all night, and when it was dawn, I was already there before the store opened, same experience with my inverter purchase, reason I was sold bad batteries for 788k, batteries that only lasts for 43 mins to an hour before going off, and a whole host of others that I can’t mention here. My life is so messed up, always filled with endless regrets. 🥹

I have posted pictures of the car above.

The thing is think, the OP is used to online shopping. The only thing I regret buying is a deep freezer.its working well,no issues, but I realised it was dented after 19hrs.and the shop refused to refund or replace.i tested it,it was in a carton, but I did not expect the body to be dented.they played a fast one on me 7years ago.till now it's still working perfectly

This op you too get money, if I may ask what do you do? Because you spend without due diligence.

This should be a cruise

You went to buy a car of 12m without a mechanic? You also made full payment without testing the car?

Do you pluck money on the tree?
