Sincerely speaking most parents just gave their kids name as they saw other people also naming theirs. I feel due to their level of education, they didn't really think the name out. This mainly applied to those naming their kids an English name. There are several names to me that I feel are not really ideal though I may be wrong. For example naming your kid Thomas. Do you want your kid to be doubting in life like the Thomas in the bible or naming your kid Hope. So you want your kid to always be ☺️ hopeful. For how long will the child be hoping. Well ,I may be wrong. Just my thoughts. |

Africans names especially the Yoruba names represent the spirit, lineage, culture, situation, time, peculiarities ,etc.. associated with the child. Ile l'anwo k'ato s'omo l'oruko. I don't entirely believe a person's name can affect his destiny. However, I did christen my children with lovely names so that when they get called by it, they will be proud to answer. It's the first thing I love about my dad; he gave us all lovely names in addition to quality education, adequate provision and sound moral upbringing (through religion). Just as I'm proud to bear my name, I made sure I named my children something they'd be proud to bear. Other than that, names are just names. How many BANKOLE don build house? Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen. I do appreciate my native names more than my English name. If you call me by my English name I won't answer you one bit. I do tell people that. You call me by my native names I will answer you. My mum had a difficult time birthing me and during my naming ceremony, infact, I was born a pre-term. our Yoruba neighbors named me MODUPE after all the hurdles of birthing me. I am extremely proud of my native names. Adaeze and Modupe. You call me Esther, OYO is gonna be your middle name. I extremely appreciate and love native names.
