Rest on Prof. Ngugi

Your book titled "Weep Not Child" was indeed a top notch. It showcased how Africans were suffering and proffered ways of liberation...

'The river between" is the best amongst all his works. That novel is something else.

I still remember Weep not, Child and The River Between as some of his most outstanding books. Rest in peace, prof. You shaped our thoughts with your literature.

Lol!

You are immersed in reading!

If not for getting updated informations from news platforms and newsletters like vanguard, guardian...etc, i would have been reading physical books. I read dem though, sometimes!
placeofallure:
I fell in love with reading anything from my primary school days. I read anything that is a book!

I was reading this D. O. Fagunwa's book. I think I was in 100 level or so. I've been reading it for a while. One of the days, I was alone and reading in my room. The author was a maestro at using descriptive words to bring events to life. You'd be transported into the world of the story, such that you're almost one of the characters tagging along with the others in the story. You'd imagine things in your mind's eye... I was reading and was in this state when fear overwhelmed me by the gripping scene the author was painting. I got so scared that I smashed the book against the wall, and ran out as fast as my legs could carry me. I couldn't enter the house again until I got company. I later finished the book, but I had to encourage myself a lot to be able to do that.

Such writing prowess! I couldn't bring myself to read Soyinka's translation though. I got busier.

Rest in peace, Sir Ngugi wa Thiong'o.

African novels are so great. But what about European novels? I think i didnt witness the opportunity to read more foreign writings.

The only novel i was addicted to and read more than 20-times is purple hibiscus. I was hooked and drowned into the book. The emotions were too strong!

It's CLEARLY the end of another major cycle in human history.

The legendary Kenyan (in the mould of the global citizen and Nigerian Godfather, Professor 'Wole Soyinka) Prof. James Ngugi wa Thiong'o has finally left the physical world.

"Weep Not, Child," "The River Between," "Petals of Blood," "Devil on the Cross," etc, are truly groundbreaking global literary works. It's refreshing to still have some of his books in my personal home library collections as well.

My deep condolences go to his immediate fam and the people of Kenya where he hails from.

J.F Ọdúnjọ's Aláwìíyé (in several series - ìwé kìíní, ìwé kejì, etc)?! Wow! You're an old man. Lols.
I'm a Gen X so I'm quite old. The Alawiye book I enjoyed most were the ones from book 4 to 6. Wonder if they still recommend such books these days in our schools.

Yeah... Good old days.

Social media is taking intellectual conversations down the drain.
You can say that again buddy. Those of us from that generation are the smartest ones now because we still read and do research and go for knowledge.

Did you read "Sangba Fo" by Akinlade Kola?
He is less known, but that book is dope. I was captivated to the very end even though I hated reading Yoruba.
Yes, I heard about it, and I also remember it being read out across some weekly episodes of a radio program where the presenter would read chapters of a Yoruba story book until the end. I can still add it to my bucket list though.

I really doubt the bolded part. Maybe it's still being used in some public schools, but I’m not so sure

Who cares about his writing if he is morally fluid?

He has destroyed his legacy with tribal jingoism when he selectively calls out leaders that are not from his tribe.

If you know the history of how he went to collect/ betray that Nobel prize even when all other African writers had agreed to boycott the Nobel prize ceremony in protest of the apartheid in South Africa then you will understand my context about his morality!

I am expecting a moderator to ban my response because I have called soyinka out for moral inconsistency!
