Fantastic news. Onyedika getting to work with Graham Potter is huge. Waiting eagerly for next season.
Hopefully he will soak enough knowledge from potter

I already clarified before that Finidi was 100% right with the bolded statement.

Either way, I have no doubt that with time, Finidi would have made us phenomenal. Our quest for immediate results hampers growth of coaches. I hope Chelle gets quality time.

Formation is not the most important that wins games but the interpretation by the players. No matter the formation or tactics put on ground, if the players don't understand and interpret their roles, the formation won't succeed. So understanding roles and interpreting it is more important than formation.

This is one of the smartest tactical things I ever heard and it came from Finidi George. Increased my respect for him as a tactician.
The way he take talk am, no be wetin he mean be this my boss.

LoL. You got me laughing.

That is what he meant. I will look for my earlier post on it.

TheGoodJoe:

I have explained that it was a mix up in his words. Reading the whole quote, I can decipher (not Finidi said) that he meant, Formation is not key to win but players interpreting when to attack and defend. Not Finidi said. My understanding and any opposing view is welcomed.

So telling us formation is foundation and bedrock in no way addresses the point.

The point is that Finidi did not mean that Formation is not important but when it comes to winning, understanding when to attack or defend is more important.

It does not matter what formation you play. What win games is moments to attack and defend.

This is the point. You can debate it or leave it.

My philosophy is to win. For me, formation is not that important, because if players interpret when to attack and when to defend and do it well, there won’t be problems...Finidi George

This is Finidi George's coaching philosophy and when he coached, this is what he intense to pass to players. So I wonder what else he needs to say to highlight what he intense to coach players on.

TheGoodJoe:
From what I have seen so far, it goes deeper than that. For instance, number to attack a space when pressing, depending on the shape of the opponents. Either way, Finidi wants to teach the players his philosophy of attacking (which is deep) and defending (which is also deep). The more they understand this, the better the team stands chances to win, based on his philosophy. This to him is more important to win than the formation itself.

I think it is a very brilliant take by Finidi.

Eric Chelle on Uche's showing off the bench

“Christantus Uche made a great impact coming onto the pitch. I’m very happy with his performance. He deserves to be in the Nigeria team,” Chelle said.

One thing I want Chelle to keep in mind is the way Flair is coming back to football. Due to the high intensity and tight pressing of the modern era, players are learning to think and move fast. Players are getting more comfortable in tight spaces.

Yesterday we had Kvaratskelia, Doue, Ruiz, Vitinha, Dembele, that played with flair and intelligence. Also the midfield were comfortable in keeping the ball amongst themselves.

Chelle needs to work on improving our midfield fast. Since Mikel Obi, we have not been composed in the middle. That needs sorting out with scouting and training.
Maybe Nwakali, since his teammate equalized for Jamaica according meliforme...... Let's see what Uche Christanus brings to the table or how do you see it

I hope not. The boy is a huge presence in the midfield and should never be wasted upfront. We have lacked such presence in the midfield, I mean a midfielder that can run with the ball confidently in the midfield the way he did yesterday. Such traits made Essien and Yaya highly dreaded.

I once expected such from Nosa Igiebor but he fizzled out quickly.

We won the cup, yes
It will do wonders for our confidence..
But the questions remain..

Can Chelle manage this team?
He had time to salvage the Sodiq situation, yet he allowed it become an emergency..

If Jamaica were a better team, would we have won?

I like that he packed the midfield in the second half
That should be his starting midfield bar Ndidi..

All in all, we'll take the win
Looking forward to the Russia game next week

Let's test ourselves against potentially better opposition
Let's sack the coach na, abihuh

The way we've played exposed sodiq, chukwueze inverted much, so any fast break ment the opposition's LB and LW were free to double team on our RB, but when the coach changed to a classic 4-4-2, the assault on sodiq stopped.
It's a learning curve for sodiq, I rewatch the match and I noticed that on the ball sodiq is good.

Samuel Chukwueze 🆚 Jamaica.

Éric Chelle you do this one 😂, man don turn Messi/Jay Jay. He actually did very great yesterday, one of his best performances for the Super Eagles in history.

Going forward, I think Chukwueze should hold that 10 position, Iwobi fit play left-wing like at Fulham, but Lookman no fit dey bench... Omo squad don dey get depth 🙆🏾‍♂️

See as Kvara left Napoli and won a Champions league. If he was a Nigerian, they would had advised him to sign for an Arab club and strip himself of a champions league

If Osimhen was in this game a lot of us go forget the rubbish performance wey the guy put up because he'd have gone home with two assists to his name yesterday. Thank God say Ola Aina still dey alive o 😂

If they can work on Sodiq's defensive awareness, he's good to go, but make them work on am far away from the national team sha.
