Why should an average Joe be able to afford luxury cars, anywhere in the world?

Eh?

It may be sad if a civil servant isn't able to afford a car for his regular use. There's nothing sad in an average civil servant not being able to afford a luxury car.

Get it right...there's nothing sad in a regular guy not being able to afford a luxury item.

People should stop codedly promoting corruption and other forms of crime
It's insane the level of money worship going on right now. People are under undue pressure to make it, fake it and shake it. There is nothing like a mind and heart that knows peace and isn't moved by these material illusions and desire to feel better than the other using material things. It's a mental disorder because once you remove the material objects, these individuals cannot stand on their own 🤡

We always shed crocodile tears, when we heard of corruption in government yet our actions and behavior support acts of bribery and corruption.
how's it wrong? Civil servants on 200k na him wan buy Benz of 250million how? Your FG are just tryna make the civil servants feel important, but tell them to increase their salaries and other welfare na problem. Hope you're aware that if you newly join the Nigerian army your salary is 54k,people that put their lives on line, convert it to dollars then come back to your comment. [/qute]

That's not what we are saying here man.... Luxury cars aren't designed for everyone... That's why it's called luxury....

Even if every civil servant earns 1m or more, it can't get them luxury cars.... So calling them out in that advert is like encouraging corruption or trying to push them into it.... It's totally wrong!

The average Joe would afford that car at least in most western countries Just from his savings in a year or two or just using his credit score.
And it brand new with zero mileage.
Nigeria as gone so bad we can’t buy a brand new car even the tokunbo we were managing the tinubu government has made it out of the reach of the masses, we are now left with Nigeria use it that’s bad Camry muscle from 3.5 to 9m. The government is the problem not the advert people react and create creative content based on the noms and the prevailing situation of a country. Make your advert without snide remarks.

Don't add to the pressure on some peeps, why singling out civil servants ? The higher percentage of Nigerians can't afford his cars.

If he had said not everyone can't afford this car nobody will even reason his matter, they have been talking about this guy's mode of advert on other SM platform to the extent NOA had to talk about it.

Before you know now they will be investigating if his business is clean or not , his source of money, who's bankrolling him it's just a matter of time, some people just like attracting unnecessary attention to themselves. If they reason his matter ehn e go long.

You have your market base , you know civil servants are not part of it, keep shut and sell your cars to your customers.

The advert doesn't make any sense because it puts others down and is capable of promoting get-rich-quick syndrome which isn't good for the society including yourself

When some people are pressured to go into crime, it's people like you again that will complain, if you're lucky to not be victims of such crimes.

We even chastise pastors who glorify riches and prosperity as opposed to salvation

You can advertise your products without labelling others or making disrespectful remarks

It's based on the above that your own post too doesn't make any sense. No be all government statements una go dey find ways to criticise

Exactly.
Politicians are taxing us for their own selfish consumption and looting while civil servants are paid peanuts.
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly.

There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.

Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.

The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.

While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.

“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said.

“Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office.

“So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.”

Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future.

They keep digging pits that they'll eventually fall into.

Good that information is readily available these days

Please name a specific country and let's do the analysis. Let's start from the average annual salary, less taxes and living expenses of the average guy.

Let's start with this first

It's insensitive to go about your business in that manner. The FG has done the right thing here. He should also be made to delete every video he's made and put online with that statement in it. It's distasteful.

Actually, civil servants can loot every kobo allocated to their ministries to buy any car of their choice. If you go to Abuja, you'll see that happening. Civil servants even have estates in Abuja.

Let's be mindful of what we put of there in the name of ads because when we end up building a society without an atom of decency and morality, we all will pay the weighty price.
what are you even saying, By norm can a civil servant in Nigeria afford the car .. No nd that is the Fact

why you drifted to outright prevarication is what i dont, naa only Abuja civil servant dey ??
even in Abuja the civil servant that get access to divert funds are senior level officers ... not All the civil servants work in the money dept.

APC no well, they cant just stand the truth, let dem go to court

Re: FG Warns Car Dealer Over Viral Video Mocking Civil Servants by nairalanda1(m): 9:30am On Jun 03, 2025
Well, we don't assemble cars in nigeria anymore, plus the cars of today are far more complex than the cars of the 1970's and early 1980's (my toyota, which is second hand , has more stuff in it from electronics to aircon, than my father's supposedly posh 1982 peugeot...).....so the idea of a civil servant owning cars is going to be hard.

For once, this is not tinubu;s fault....nigerians for the most part have not been able to afford new cars since the late 1980's and the problem starts with the failure of Ajaokuta, and the refusal to develop small scale industries manufacturing accessories for cars...

Fixing the issue is going to take decades.

Why should civil servants watch his content? Why should they want to afford luxury cars?

In which country of the world does government workers afford luxury cars - by the prevailing localized understandings of it? Can civil servants in the UK afford Bentleys or Aston Martins? Or do civil servants in Italy drive Lamborghinis or Ferraris?

This country is very disheartening.
Full of very irritating, entitled dunderheads. To think that the vast majority of the so-called civil servants at all levels ( at least 90%) are merit-less misfits who got their jobs through nepotism and corruption, and are even redundant and incompetent at it, yet they feel so entitled and want to live luxury lives for merely being absolute wastes of space!

Besides, the so called warning by the NOA is not even worth the paper it was printed on. What sort of institutional idiocy is this, to purport to enforce subjective 'morals' on a private individual who has committed absolutely no crime? Shouldn't they have something more impactful or meaningful to focus on? Alas, of course the Nigerian body of civil servants prefer to be utterly useless. Always prioritizing low hanging fruits and window dressing activities rather than substantive issues.
Your response reeks of abysmal crass and nepotistic tendencies. If not for restraints that some Nigerians are putting to what they watch and digest, the get-rich syndrome is eating deep into the sane fabric that is still holding the country together
