DrCassidy:Are you sure you have the right gearbox?
|
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by DrCassidy: 4:06am On Apr 23, 2025 |
I believe I do, sir, because the gearbox I am replacing has the code FDG 21053, and I used it for over 2 years without a problem. My engine has a 2.0L capacity. However, I do not know the code on the following come gearbox. This is the 2nd time I am replacing a gearbox, sir. I appreciate your response so far, sir. |
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by DrCassidy: 4:16am On Apr 23, 2025 |
Besides, the first time I replaced the gearbox, it was seamless, replaced and drove. |

Are you sure you do not have an electrical issue, i.e., an open or short circuit? Anyway, it seems you have been applying two incompatible combinations. If your gearbox is FDG, the required TCM part number should be 01M 927 733 MF. If your TCM is 01M 927 733 MR, it applies to the FDF gearbox. I think this latter combination is the appropriate one for your 2007 Golf. FDG is for the Beetle, but is compatible with your car, provided you're using a TCM with part number 01M 927 733 MF. |

Good afternoon, Expert. Thank you, so much for your kind response. About the electrical problem, when scanned, it shows either selenoid 4 or 7 open circuits; sometimes 3 open circuits. As regards the gearbox code, you may be correct. Like I said earlier, I do not know the code for the original gearbox that came with the car. Perhaps I should request the TCM part number you suggested. My VW Golf is specifically a "Golf City" 2.0L, 2007 model. Should there be any possible alteration with other golf made in the same year? Thank you, Sir. |
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by Estyfort: 5:53pm On Apr 25, 2025 |
DrCassidy:I'll take your last question first. Yes, it all depends on the target market. For the European and American markets, for example, the 2007 Golf (tagged Mk and Ik respectively) has a 6-speed transmission. Whereas, your Golf City is of the South American market with a 4-speed transmission. I think many were sold in Canada. However, what matters for the moment is to ensure that the gearbox and TCM are compatibly matched. You can then, with confidence, address error codes, should there be any. |

Thank you, so much! I feel like my gearbox problem is half-solved. Thank you! I shall order a TCM with this code 01M 927 733 MF as recommended. Yes, you are correct, the car was bought from Canada. Please, should there be an error code, how can it be handled? Very sorry for my many questions. Thank you. |
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by Estyfort: 7:22pm On Apr 25, 2025 |
DrCassidy:Just post the precise error code(s). We'll move on from there. We won't get to that pass, hopefully. |
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by DrCassidy: 3:08am On Apr 26, 2025 |
Thank you, I will do as advised. Pardon me, Sir. Please, in case I do not find a TCM part number with the exact last 2 alphabets"MF", will it be ok to use one with a different last 2 alphabets? |
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by Estyfort: 6:53am On Apr 26, 2025 |
DrCassidy:My answer is no; though as you mentioned earlier you successfully combined your current MR tcm with your first FDG gearbox. Btw, why did you have to change your gearbox so frequently? |
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by DrCassidy: 5:04am On Apr 28, 2025 |
The first time I changed the gearbox was about 3 to 4 years ago. The gear was misfiring. It was also a selenoid-related problem after the car was scanned. The solenoid was repaired or replaced, but it however worsened. Then I was advised to replace the gearbox by my mechanic. This time around, the car was not moving well, with poor acceleration, especially on a hill. Each time I change the plug, it will improve for a moment and then go back to poor acceleration. Again, I scanned and was told it was selenoid, replaced, worsened, and I was told the gear fibre had been affected and advised to change gear. The rest is where I am today. Thank you. |
| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by Estyfort: 9:17am On Apr 28, 2025 |
DrCassidy:The impression given by your earlier post on this gear change was not as negative. Anyway, you just have to give unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Match your gearbox and its brainbox appropriately. |

| Re: Help With Brain Box Number by calculation(m): 5:42am On May 24, 2025 |
heybeebugatty:You can go for it. It is a match for that your ECU. Pls Note that, what the seller is selling is used and yet to confirm ECU. It is your duty to negotiate for return if it doesn't work because it is not brand new and there might be a problem from donor vehicle. If all things work well, then it will fit fir your civic model. |
