India has about 8 different tribes living within it's borders..
China has about a dozen or so ..
These countries have long since leveraged on their diversity to foster nationhood and patriotism.

Nigeria with over 350 tribes and as many languages..can she boast of the same?
The main reason why we haven't yet disintegrated and balkanized is due to free oil money at the centre..once that dries up.. nothing will hold this country together.

The Scheduled Tribes listed by the government of India alone amount to over 700+ different tribes, even though together, these tribes are just 8.6% of the Indian population.

And "tribes" are the smallest ethic group category in India. Most ethnic groups are far larger than a mere tribe. Remember, India is the world's oldest civilization. Many of us stopped being tribal between 5000 and 12000 years ago.

Look, Nigeria is very different from India. What actually keeps India united will never work in Nigeria. So I do agree with your larger point that India is not a good example for you to try to replicate for national unity. But that doesn't mean that you severely underestimate India's diversity and fundamentally pluralistic character.
