Tragedy struck Gwabro village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Sunday, June 8, as a deadly bomb explosion claimed the lives of six people during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Ahmad Rufai, who verified the number of casualties but refrained from releasing further details regarding the blast. The explosion occurred amid the traditional movement of villagers visiting loved ones to celebrate the religious holiday.

An eyewitness named Hashimu recounted that the explosion occurred in the afternoon, during one of the routine festive visits between neighboring communities.

In a statement, Garzali Raka, an aide to the Tangaza Local Government Chairman, revealed that all the victims had been laid to rest in line with Islamic burial rites.

Local sources have pointed fingers at the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group, which has long terrorized residents in both Tangaza and nearby Gudu Local Government Area. Villagers believe the group may have planted the explosive device that caused the deadly incident.

They are now calling on both the state and federal governments to urgently intervene and restore peace and safety to the region, which has been plagued by insecurity and the disruption of community life by armed groups.
