To tell you that the central government we're running is not for us

Mister Doom and gloom himself. Do you even understand the article before you started mouthing off with your usual and predictable doom and gloom messages?

Go and see what Lagos is doing with embedded power supply below. By the time the entire Lagos Island, up to Epe, then has 24/7 power supply you'll still be online seeking negative news to satisfy your unquenchable craving for sadism against those you hate like Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu and whoever is Governor by the time Lagos Island has 24/7 power supply and moving on to the mainland.

If you are a wizard, then you should tell us what ebilokan and his cronies have failed to light up the whole state more than two years after Buhari assented the 5th Amendment to the 1999 Constitution allowing states to generate, distribute and regulate electricity?

pendy79:
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Sunday evening boasted that he could provide uninterrupted power supply to Lagos residents between six and eight months.

Fashola spoke at the commissioning of 8.5 megawatts Lekki Independent Power Project (IPP), the fifth of such power projects in the last five years in the state.

The governor said the addition of the Lekki IPP was a testament to the fact that stable power does not require rocket science to achieve in the country.

While challenging power distribution companies in the state, Fashola said, “Let the Eko DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government, in about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State,” Fashola said.

He added, “So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated. So, when they come with lies that power is impossible, you can tell them that we have power here; we make it possible”.

The project, courtesy of the state government, in partnership with Heritage Bank, is to serve Lagos State Water Corporations in Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, as well as over 25km of public lightening in the Lekki axis.

Commissioning the project, Fashola said he felt fulfilled with the conduct of youths that delivered the project, despite the difficulties in getting to the finishing point.

He said it also showed that the money to improve the Nigerian economy is here, “since we don’t need the World Bank to come and do this for us.”

The headline is a bit deceptive, because the content in summary states that the power generated privately off grid is far more than that on the grid and it is essentially due to the poor power supply on the grid. A country where you provide almost everything you need due to bad governance.
no mind d yeye report. Very confusing

WizardOfNG:
The headline is not deceptive. You just don't understand the article and specific concept it is focusing on.

In a nutshell AFC (Africa Finance Corporation) is worried power supply may not be more adequate between now and the near future if Nigeria is dependent on central grid power supply perhaps suffering under-investment.

Well, any smart Nigerian will know what we are doing in Nigeria supercedes the worry of AFC which appears an afterthought.

This is because Nigeria has fully deregulated her power sector to address the precise worry of the AFC. I.e national dependance on an inadequate central power grid that has become near moribund because of decades of under-investment and upscaling improvement.

The situation today is that, while the FG will continue to invest in boosting the capacity of our central power grid, States now have the capacity to mirror captive and embedded power supply such as used to power industrial complexes.

Read the examples from my thread below to note that Lagos is running with that concept already.

If proactive uptake from States is good as Lagos is showing, especially in cost-effective PPP arrangement, then AFC worries is insigificant in the case of Nigeria in my opinion.

https://www.nairaland.com/8432581/finnish-firm-bags-deal-build
Off-grid and self-generated electricity in Lagos State has surpassed Nigeria’s entire grid-connected capacity, a new report by the Africa Finance Corporation has revealed, raising concerns over the growing energy access crisis in the country.
In parallel, clearing and preparation activities at the NEPA Close Site are progressing well and are due for completion within Q2 2025, after which construction can start. Commissioning is expected 15 months thereafter and the Operations & Maintenance agreement is timed to commence prior to the new build project reaching commercial operations date (COD).”
The way you guys lie senselessly, you didn't even read the content of the link you sent, the second quote here is from the link...

Sometimes I'm almost convinced you guys are either smart people acting to be stup-id or stup-id people acting to be smart.

Before some agbado boys come to scream Tinubu legacy, more than 60% of the generated power are from private sector and companies.

If you have solar power installed in your house or place of work, you are the contributor, not the government.
who signed the Electricity bill

If i install a 10,000W solar setup in my house or apartment, does that mean that 10,000W is available for my next house neighbour?
Do other countries srlf sufficient in electricity depend solely on AC mains supply from the a centralised system as Nigeria? Every countrys system is a mixture of types even fir national security. If Past presidents had created a framework that Tinubu just did Nigeria eould have gone far.

Don't mind some ITK who only know to rush and criticise good news or even other forumers perhaps because doom and gloom is what they want to read and hear.

Your first post about Lagos existing the national grid is correct and valid. IIt shows you understand the article.

Indeed, what is shown below from a thread I started confirms it is only a question of time before Lagos exit the national grid as State can now use 100% of power they generated for their own use since they no longer have to 'share' with the national grid as was the case before full deregulation of the power sector.

That is a key concept the worries of AFC does not take account of. I.e fact that full deregulation is meant to ensure less Nigerians are vulnerable to poor power supply because of National grid inadequacy.

States are supposed to now take the burden of the national grid as Lagos is leading doing below with captive and embedded power supply.

Sincerely, I was hopeless about anyone understanding where I was coming from, so I didn’t bother explaining.

Maybe you're not intelligent then
The off grid energy being referred to has nothing to do with any deliberate move by Lagos. They are talking about private generators and solar power

Re: Lagos Alternative Power Boom Exceeds National Grid Capacity – Report by Yankee101: 4:19am On Jun 11, 2025
It is not good news
It means companies are having to generate thier own power via thermal generation mostly, enter the Mikanos, fas and coal powered plants at companies like Dangote

When ‘generator’ use has surpassed ‘NEPA’ use it is not good news but terrible news of the systemic failure

You both exhibited a high level of ignorance
There is no Lagos exiting (not exist) the power grid about the matter
What the article is showing is that self-generated power such as those used by homes and businesses are now bigger than the national grid supply
The implication is that lagosians are spending more to bridge the supply gap individually. I'm sure you'll understand that a tiger generator is not something to exit the grid for.... neither is an MTN solar solution

Buhari signed revised act, nobody invested
Tinubu signed decentralized bill. Nobody invested.

Which other enabling you want again. Soon feeding.?
