Bandit leader Bello Turji's demand for N50 million before allowing farmers in Zamfara and Niger to cultivate their land highlights the growing power of criminal groups in northern Nigeria. This form of extortion threatens food security, inflates prices, and deepens economic hardship.

The situation exposes weaknesses in security enforcement, as bandits operate unchecked, controlling communities through fear. Paying the ransom only reinforces their authority, making future extortion inevitable.

A long-term solution requires a combination of intelligence-driven security operations, community-based defense initiatives, and economic support to weaken bandit influence. Without decisive action, farmers will remain at the mercy of these criminal groups.

Northerners have nothing to do with this insecurity. Ebilokan knows that only one tribe is responsible for all the problems of insecurity in Nigeria.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

You are heartless. But I don't blame you because I have the feeling you are bad christian. We are all humans so don't rejoice when another human is in distress. It could have to you too.

You shouldn't have responded, now you just gave the needed attention, it's obvious this is a scam, opening different accounts and spamming every thread. Where is he/she getting data subscription to stay online. I have put up a vacancy in my office for more than 2 weeks now, no one shows up but I get people soliciting for 1k,2k in my dm every day.. These are the unscrupulous elements that discouraged well meaning Nigerians to assist those in dire need.
Kindly ignore next time. Thanks

Lol, as the military are unable to decimate this man for several years of terrorising Nigeria I think they should just negotiate with him and pay him off so that the farmers can return to farm.

You totally ignored my first sentence and you're spewing trash. No wahala. Continue fooling yourself. Also, common sense has got nothing to do with whether you are Christian or Muslim or pagan, so your attempt at gaslighting me is DOA.

No state government in Nigeria is equipped to effectively combat the menace of transnational terrorism that is ravaging Nigeria. Almost every state in Nigeria has some form of government supported vigilante outfit, just like you have your amotekun. These civilian outfits, as much as they try, are no match to these terrorists. At best, these vigilante groups are armed with pump action guns(many are still wielding dane guns), these terrorists have assault rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns, anti-tank weapons, anti-aircraft machine guns, I've even seen them brandishing shoulder launched surface to air missiles.
This is definitely a job for the military, the police cannot even contend with these filthy agents of terror, talk less of poorly armed civilian vigilantes. Clearly, amotekun has not ejected these terrorists from yoruba forests, as they're still causing mayhem in that axis. Mind you, the situation in the North is far worse than what is experienced in the south.
It's extremely shameful that the Nigerian military has not been up to the task of doing what is necessary to ensure absolute annihilation of these terrorists. As the commander in chief, Tinubu, like his predecessors, has to be held accountable for this gross failure.
My Friend.

Nigeria is a federal republic; the state may not be equipped today, but that doesn't mean that it should not start the process immediately. Nigeria itself is not equipped to fight the current insurgency, so waiting for a federal government that has not existed for the past 10 years

As a Local Government Chairman or Governor, your number one responsibility is to your people. If the president is missing, take it on yourself to do the right thing and protect your people.

My friend,
That's not how Nigeria is structured. The state governments and local authorities have done all they are capable of doing by forming vigilantes. I've explained to you already that only the military is equipped to fight these terrorists.

The resources to combat this menace are all at the federal level. The military, police, paramilitary are all federal establishments. The resources to secure Nigeria are allocated to these organizations, this is the only reason they exist.

No matter how you twist it, you cannot pass the buck to civilians to fight these terrorists. The commander in chief must do whatever is necessary to ensure the military is up to the task of defending the nation from terrorists. Failure to do so is an indictment on him, and further demonstration of his incompetence.

You said the state governments and local authorities have done all they are capable of doing by forming vigilantes.

Northern governors have just accepted the creation of state police. The vigilantes are usually uneducated hunters with little or no organised command and control structure to organise a defence against the ongoing insecurity nd insurgency. The vigilante should be used as a backup spy.

Buhari was against Amotekun having automatic weapons. Ametokun is an organised armed militia with a command and control hierarchy led by a retired military officer. Amettokun can easily integrate into a state police when it is formed.

The resources may be at the federal level, but the evidence suggests that Nigeria's federal institutions are ineffective.

The Nigerian army and Navy have failed to end oil theft in the Niger Delta. Under the leadership of a former military General, Buhari, the so-called federal army exacerbated the problem to the point that Nigeria's oil exports dropped to less than 1 million barrels per day.

The Nigerian army has already stated that kinetic military tactics cannot end the insecurity and insurgency. The state and local governments must do more.

The idea of state police has been mulled, till date it has only remained an idea. If we can have state police, give the states the independence and resources to secure their territories with their own police force, then we can begin to hold them accountable.

I understand the structure and limitations of Amotekun, as addressed already.

Failure of leadership and internal corruption is what has hampered the military's effort. Accountability starts from the top, from the commander in chief. A standard of expectation is established, those that don't deliver are quickly shown the exit. It takes intestinal fortitude and absolute determination from the top.
So, while I agree that the military is not delivering, we have to address why they are not delivering. Most importantly, the so-called commander in chief has to be held accountable.

Of course, it takes more than kinetic measures, but kinetic measures are necessary.
