Nairaland Recent Changes: My Advice To Seun by Omoawoke(op):
I don’t know how to type long epistles…so this will be short and straightforward

Oga Seun, I greet you oo..
we know you are trying to make nairaland better, but in the process of implementing changes, don’t make it worse. Not all changes bring growth, some kill it.

You are literally suppressing the way people express themselves on nairaland.
If you look at nairaland, the majority of users are the Millennial generation and few Gen Zs…
Most of the loyal users are people that knew nairaland years ago and refused to leave…. In fact, many new accounts are reincarnates of old accounts..

What does this mean… change is hard and the changes you are implementing will only frustrate your most loyal users, people that have been here for a long time and keep coming back…and they have gotten used to the way mainland operates

You don’t have much of Gen Zee’s
You may not have someone to advise you in a management and strategic mindset… but there are many people here who knew Nairaland from kids to adulthood and have become business leaders and owners ( they come here because they owe this forum everything)
What you should be targeting is how to attract Gen Zees not making life harder for even the older generations that have been here for a long time…

I repeat, your changes will only frustrate your most loyal followers who are the majority….

If you want to make changes, bring in new features that will be desirable to the new Gen Zees and align with trends, while keeping the old features that will still satisfy the old users….

This advice I dey give you, na free consultancy whey we dey use chop money oo… there are product managers here, business development managers, strategy analysts and many other smart and well doing people… I’m sure many of them are here and would understand the jargons I dey type
Re: Nairaland Recent Changes: My Advice To Seun by Omoawoke(op): 12:42am On Jun 13, 2025
You dey ban people anyhow, bringing in bots that work like they are on kracckk.
Any strong expression of opinion comes with a ban and deletion of comments…
You now forcing people to type a certain length before their comments can be accepted….
This fire brigade style would be counterproductive and chase away people already used to the system and the excitement it brings… yet it won’t attract new people because enough excitement dey Twitter where they can express themselves without restriction… TikTok too… even Facebook…

This is a forum, not a deeper life Sunday school, and it’s faceless, that’s the catch, a place where people can come offline to a world of free expressions and catch fun and get unfiltered truth. Feel the real taste of naija vibes and gists unfiltered. … that’s the value proposition we get from nairaland… many people aren’t even in the country, for example I’m not even in Nigeria but I log on here to feel Nigerian again…

But if you want to do it your way, fine… you will say anybody that wants to go should go… ( one by one, dem don dey go till the place becomes empty and dry)

Think about this my oga…
We love nairaland and we want it to succeed

Change is inevitable. People should learn to adjust to the new NL rules or modification/upgrading.

Afterall, the changes have been making difference on how people engage others

Are the changes not sitting up? New social media bill, cybercrime law is coming, better to prepare ahead without getting into government trouble.

We will adjust

The changes are not necessary. It reduces the fun of this forum.

Don't be selfish with your thinking. The fun of the forum, how about the progress of the forum? Which should be the priority if you were to be the owner?

Both should be the priority. All works and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Commercialize this forum and start paying people for their efforts.

as in if you want to post a comment? And if I don't the bot bans me?
Re: Nairaland Recent Changes: My Advice To Seun by AustineE1: 8:53am On Jun 13, 2025
There was thread on Nigerian military successfully bombing some bandits in Zamfara and I congratulated them for a work well done. Then I equally said ' take no pr*son*rs,k*ll dem all',I was instantly banned and the comment deleted.
So I kept wondering if its a crime to support our military in their efforts to get rid of terrorists in our country.
If you observe,I don't want to type the above exact sentence in full because it may earn me another ban. Twice in two different thread I praised the Nigerian army and I was banned! So I'm at a lost what nairaland MODs really wants.

There are even more restrictions on X. It was better as Twitter until Elon came and changed everything. On Twitter, you can't say too much if your account is unverified... Back to your points, so many people were calling for an overhaul and now that they have it, they have started complaining. Though the actions from the bots is annoying, just learn to endure. The bottom line is, it is what it is!

The comments won't go at all. After the 40 characters, that might still not stop the anti spam bot to ban

I have severally told seun he is going to kill this forum by himself and I will help him to kill it . Banning without Justification 24/7

I blocked a nuisance on this forum but can still read his comment even in this thread, seems the bot is not working well or there is a new way around it.

Why should I still be seeing any post from hellanus after I have blocked him.

Is the bot not working again cos once you block someone on Twitter or Facebook, they remain blocked till you unblock them, why is this one different, does the one here expire after sometime

How about the below pair of quote/reply?

Commentor:
But why are many Nigerians unhappy with good news?
huh
It is good news to you despite that the refineries under your paymasters the govt of Tinubu are useless and just gulping billions in TAM. You are irredeemable.

Nothing wrong if I'm exactly like your old man.

Nothing wrong, at all.

Read again what I said, I never said change is inevitable

But what kind of change are you implementing?

The majority of the members of this forum are people that have been here for a long time…. And trust me, change is very hard!

If it is to limit actions of trolls, and those scammers that come here posting account numbers or porns… that’s great, but that shouldn’t be at the expense of other users just trying to express themselves..
People getting banned for just posting some certain words that meant no harm… ?

Comparing this to organizations, if they are implementing changes maybe changing from manual processes to automations…. They hire new employees of newer generations before fading away the older generations and system.
In this case, the changes aren’t even going to attract new users… Gen Zees like to express themselves even far more than Millennials…. So who is the change targeting? What’s the expectation? Frustrate the old users and yet bringing in features that are undesirable to new users? (My point of view anyway)
