Mom007:Actually they do. The senate president lists among his successes as a governor adding villages in his state to the grid. If they were as callous as you say, by now the government would have long since been removed by a true people's revolution ( my choice and a good idea) The problem is , most of you don't want to pay for electricity at the market price. As at now, only band A customers pay for power at the market prices. Government in turn is scared to charge for power at market prices . Because they are politicians who think of power before good decisions It costs 170 naira to make one unit of power..80 percent of consumer pays below 170 naira per unit. No profit, no improvement. Ghana, ivory coast and even South Africa pay at market price and have better power supply than us. And it is not as if they are rich....Ghananians disconnect from the mains supply deliberately sometimes to cut power costs. Before you start, note that I do not mean that tinubu is a good leader or that corruption is not part of the problem..I am saying that all our problems with the power sector begin with lack of a cost reflective tarrif. To put things in monetary perspective.. discos made a profit of 1 trillion naira last year. We need something like 15 trillion yearly for the next ten years to get power on a consistent basis. Remember that one trillion is based on just 20% of consumers paying above market price, 18-22 % of consumers not paying and the rest underpaying |

Paramount01:Expecting power supply to be good on 5000 mw daily is like expecting me to be married to the last ten Miss Universe winners and runners up at once. Power is still bad. Make we no pretend. Even if we want to shout band A, is it right to celebrate that less than 20% of consumers have light? |

lionshare:I have given you a standard example, juxatopose and lets see Generally in life, thinking progressive you compare yourself with people above you not people below Most of the west africa countries you are so fixated on her baby countries to Nig. they even look up to us for handout no west africa countries have the resources/wealth of Nig. so comparism is unbalance even to them |

[quote author=naptu2 post=135753466] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od18Lv9LLb8?si=xq1yYaRZ8j5Fa-Fu Dr Ope Banwo @opebanwo ]. You are indeed an entertainer! Mention a Nigerian president who fulfilled all his promises. As for electricity ,no Nigerian president can resolve it. Nigerian leaders have eaten up our power sector. |
| Re: Lack Of Constant Electricity: Dr Ope Banwo Asks Why Should We Re-Elect Tinubu by nairalanda1(m): 11:17am On Jun 15, 2025 |
ejimatic:They can't because the solution means that everyone pays for power at 250 naira per unit and defaulters go to jail and get disconnected permanently. And power thieves get prosecution Since that would bring about riots in the name of ' we are poor'... |
| Re: Lack Of Constant Electricity: Dr Ope Banwo Asks Why Should We Re-Elect Tinubu by yemmit90: 11:22am On Jun 15, 2025 |
AqualinaXYZ:Power supply now is much better than what he have under Jonathan and buhari. I don't know about other places but where I live and few other states. Also, if you are not on Band A, a unit is around #36. I could remember I bought #64 per units when Buhari was there. I can criticise Tinubu on many issues but power is a bit better now since beginning of this year. |
| Re: Lack Of Constant Electricity: Dr Ope Banwo Asks Why Should We Re-Elect Tinubu by yemmit90: 11:30am On Jun 15, 2025 |
Paramount01:I will agree with this post, though band A is quite expensive but they enjoy light 24 hours in almost every day of the week. Other bands are not poor too compare to condition of power supply under two previous administrations. The problem of many Nigerians is that, we criticise blindly as a result of hatred withiout looking at positive aspect of an issue. |

The country is owing Gencos 3 trillion naira. How will one expect 24hr power supply when it is sold below cost? If you want Band A power supply of 20 hours daily, pay Band A rates which are cost reflective. There's no free lunch out there. |

chidiokay:Initially, you advised against comparing the US and Nigeria, and now you’re taking the same stance again. Regardless, even when compared with MINT and BRICS countries, Nigeria remains among the cheapest, tied with Turkey. |
| Re: Lack Of Constant Electricity: Dr Ope Banwo Asks Why Should We Re-Elect Tinubu by AerialMapper: 11:58am On Jun 15, 2025 |
They'll just use propaganda and generate the shortfall! They'll tell you cost of alternative energy became cheaper meaning more people have alternative power. They'll tell you there is no more fuel scarcity so people can now buy fuel easily to power their generators to get 24 hours supply They'll even tell you the sun got brighter under BAT so you not having 24 hours supply is because you didn't buy solar panels and inverter Then They'll give a dose of "whataboutism" and say generation has been the highest under their leader and ask about other administrations. In the end, the undead will still support their own |

lionshare:One the essence of stats is for comparism, however my point is if you want to posit " cheap" dont use another currency rate The only valid means to posit " cheap" in any country is the currency value and fixed minimum wage of that nation ... those are the valid scale hope its clearer now |

femi4:Femi4, stop gaslighting the earlier poster and answer the question. If my vote doesn’t count, you, Tinubu should be bold enough to admit same as Yar’Adua did. In same vein, if your principal thinks himself popular, then I’d expect he or she to call for a transparent voting process, not throwing around; “our votes don’t count.” How does that even sound to you? I’d be too ashamed to say. If you grew cheating in exams, don’t profile everyone as cheat. |

Paramount01:Even adelabu will not lie this kind of lies with everyday collapse of national grid and inadequate transmission capacity for the paltry little over 4k mega watt generation Only reno can shamelessly tell korokoro lies like this . Even government spokespersons don't do that they only insults or mock people |
| Re: Lack Of Constant Electricity: Dr Ope Banwo Asks Why Should We Re-Elect Tinubu by lionshare: 12:29pm On Jun 15, 2025 |
chidiokay:You're shifting the goalposts again, because no two countries will ever have identical population sizes, household incomes, or purchasing power indexes. Even when compared to other West African countries—which typically have lower incomes—Nigeria still delivers cheaper electricity. And when you expand the comparison to MINT or BRICS nations, using population size or economic scale as benchmarks, Nigeria still stands out with the most affordable electricity. This is especially true for Band A rates, which are the least subsidized—indicating that the actual cost is even lower than what Band B rates reflect. |

lionshare:You are the one just being illogical here, you couldnt even juxtapose "cheap" as your instrument of scale are not tenable Affordable is what people pay without groaning, check customers on Band B who finds 20k per week on a interrupted electricity funny, can you pay it cheerful You can't displace the true measure of affordability which is minimum wage and per capital income Those Mint and Brics nation you keep reiterating check there minimum wage and per capital income .. what the convenience rate to pay $200, $300 bills do the same for Nigeria and lets see you validate cheap here |
