They are just being functional which is good. Marching is just ceremonial.Their core purpose is to defend their country which they do best.

According to the military intelligence gleaned from a physics textbook years ago, marching in unison can set a road, esp. bridges being crossed by soldiers into forced vibrations. The bridge can collapse once the vibrations of the marchers exceed that of the bridge itself.

That's the undoing of many soldiers during World War 1 and wars prior to that. That's losing your men before a single shot is fired.
