Tanker drivers in Lagos State say they will stop loading petroleum products on Monday, claiming they cannot afford N12,500 per truck for the E-Call Up system on the Lekki-Epe Corridor.

Recently, the Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said the E-Call Up system was designed to regulate the movement of articulated vehicles and tankers accessing the corridor, thereby promoting orderly traffic flow and preventing the kind of gridlock previously experienced in the Apapa area.

However, the tanker drivers, under the aegis of the National Association of Road Transport Owners, said they could only pay N2,500 per truck.

In a brief interview with our correspondent on Sunday, NARTO President Yusuf Othman said the association was still in talks with the Lagos State Government to allow its members to pay N2,500 per truck instead of N12,500.

“For now, we are still negotiating with the Lagos State Government. The N12,500 is too high. We recommended N2,500 from the beginning. Let’s see how it goes and if we can reach an amicable resolution. But if the government does not agree, our boys will not go and load tomorrow,” Othman said.

Reacting, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, said the N12,500 was not going into government coffers.

According to Musa, the money was for the use of the facility built for the drivers in the Lekki axis to avert gridlocks and environmental pollution.

He added that the facility was built by a private investor and said the union and the drivers should try to obey rules and regulations to prevent the Lekki-Epe corridor from turning into the old Apapa road.

Upon all the useless tax the country still go on borrowing spree . Saudi Arabia only have crude and don't collect a single tax yet they are doing fine, if this is not addressed the tax fee will be transferred to the masses .

Few days ago Tinubu clueless minister of Agriculture is organizing prayer for food production . Nigeria was miles ahead of Saudi and Dubai in the early 70s and before APC there's no much gap between us. Education is free in Denmark. In return every dane pays half their income in taxes. Same thing in Germany and a host of other countries

You cannot pay subsidy for a nation of 230 million from less than 2 million bpd oil revenue. At the end you must borrow to keep up with the subsidies. No way out.

Even UAE and Saudi that pay subsides, they struggle sometimes and they have 14 million people on 2.5 m BPD and 40 million on 10 million bpd.

We have done subsidy for years. And it has left us with the debt that is now making it difficult to pay for any more subsides


Medical subsidy is still there , otherwise operations in government hospitals will cost millions of naira. Electricity subsidy exists for people.not on band A who are the majority of our population. Primary and secondary education is heavily subsidize. Even road transport is not tolled.

But oga, the problem is, apc as a government has failed to .make Nigeria a country that has a really productive economy. And tax revenue has been poor for decades. We got to change both issues


If you are serious, choose a party next year that has industrialization and raising revenue and diversification on its agenda. Vote out apc and pdp. Or don't vote at all

medical subsidy.... Pray never to visit for something serious. Last time that I checked, we have other mineral resources and other means of generating revenue. D issue there is that Nigerians aren't feeling the impact of removal. During Gej time we saw things he was able to do.

I challenge you to mention one thing that Tinubu has done in 2 yrs
