Atiku Condemns Benue Killings, Urges Leaders To Act by iwaeda(op): 1:26pm On Jun 16, 2025
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government and other political leaders to take urgent action in response to the rising violence and bloodshed in Benue State, declaring that the killings have reached an “unbearable crescendo.”

In a statement released on Monday via X, Atiku decried what he described as the continued silence and indifference of authorities in the face of the “brutal and heart-wrenching reality” in Benue and other parts of the country affected by violent attacks.

“The bloodshed in Benue State has reached a devastating crescendo — a brutal and heart-wrenching reality that can no longer be ignored,” Atiku stated. “For years, families have buried their loved ones in silence, villages have been ravaged, and communities shattered, while those in power watch from a distance, offering nothing but hollow assurances.”

The former presidential candidate criticised the state’s response to public protests over the killings, saying the use of force on demonstrators amounted to a betrayal of leadership.

“When citizens take to the streets to protest this injustice, they are not inciting rebellion, they are crying for help,” he said. “To unleash force on grieving, defenseless citizens is not governance, it is cruelty.”

Atiku urged leaders at all levels to prioritise human lives over political optics and warned that history would not be kind to those who “chose power over people.”

“This is a call to conscience to every leader at both the federal and state levels: stop turning a blind eye while Benue drowns in blood. Stop offering condolences and start offering solutions,” he said.

He also stressed the need for a comprehensive security architecture and better coordination with security agencies to protect lives and restore peace in Benue and other troubled regions such as Plateau, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Taraba.

“We urge the people not to be silenced. Raise your voices. Demand accountability. Demand justice. Demand a government that sees you, hears you, and protects you,” Atiku added.

Re: Atiku Condemns Benue Killings, Urges Leaders To Act by Bendeco02:
Even Atiku a fulani @ least can condemn to some extent but our president from a southern tribe fears to involve himself directly on the attack.

When you follow some people play politics use your brain to know who even care about you. Some of their people here are in same page with their politician.

They are now tired of denying that the attack is fulani vs Benue tribes. Before they said it's just communial clash hiding under fulani to eliminate their opponent grin

I still blame Benue people sha because they are their own No.1 enermy. Some of their community leaders collect money and allocate some land/territory to fulani. Now they want to pursue fulani out and it won't be easy because they have many mercinaries/bandits to fight for them.

Disunity and greed is very bad. Benue are now suffering for their timid nature.

This is the response I was expecting to see. What do you want Atiku to do?
Re: Atiku Condemns Benue Killings, Urges Leaders To Act by emkz:
Both Atiku and Obi are right on this matter.

The silence of the presidency was deafening.

200 persons were killed, and the silence was just too loud. 200 persons. Even Israel and Iran did not record that much casualty on the first day.

President Tinubu, like I stated in my penultimate comment, you need to visit Benue state. As president, you promised true allegiance to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when you took the Oath of Office. In Chapter II (Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is stated, "security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government". By the time all your citizens are killed, who will you be president over?

Burnt corpses and a ruined nations? You are not lord over the people, but you hold power on behalf of the people. They must be treated with respect.

Do not apportion blames. Go to Benue. Have a first-hand assessment and solve the problem.

Treat this matter with the way you treated the Ogoni people, Southern Kaduna, and all those who have faced injustice. Do not blame the governor as he is clearly helpless.

Help the people of Benue, and help them now!

Tinubu sent special forces to Benue just today after the entire community had fled, instead of declaring a state of emergency to allow military flush out the invaders? Did you not see benue link buses packing them away yesterday? Tinubu is one of the problems Nigeria ever had. Atiku is his mate. They should all retire and allow Nigeria to move forward. Tinubu is playing politics with human lives. Rivers didn't record any incidence of killings and he rushed to declare a state of emergency there, sparing the states like borno, Niger, benue where human throats are being slit open weekly? This is the height of wickedness

I'm beginning to align with your thoughts because of objectivity. You are being objective instead of being partisan.

Kudos!

I have said it over and over and over their is no way Fulani will head almost all our security leadership and expect them to fight their fellow Fulani killers it will never work.

It is time for Tinubu to dismantle the entire security structure and replace them all if anybody not happy about it he or she can go to court. Enough us Enough.

And I'm so shock at the state governor from the "news reaching our desk now that Rev Alia has just suspended one of his official for participating in protest against these evil Fulani killers", I can't believe it, so is Alia telling us he is one of those hidding in darkness supporting Fulani killers killing his people? Alia has questions to answer, seriously he must answer some questions.

Benue people world wide rise up, stop waiting for any politician to stop these barbaric killing, rise up and ready to shed your last drop of blood to defend your land, enough is enough of barking on Internet, action time.

At least I agree with you on this.

And painfully, the President asked the Governor to settle the attackers and the victims. Is that not totally shameful and heartless? Some evil people invade communities, kill the citizens in large numbers and the No. 1 asking for settlement. It makes the whole issue of silence very disgusting. It shows incompetence.
Re: Atiku Condemns Benue Killings, Urges Leaders To Act by hotseat: 2:04pm On Jun 16, 2025
Tinubu, like other so-called leaders before him, appears to be treating the issue of insecurity with kid gloves.

The protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of any meaningful government.

Even if a leader succeeds in other areas without security, such a leader would be considered a gross failure.

Tinubu: wake up from slumber!

Now that is a good one from Atiku, despite knowing that his tribesmen are behind this. We know El rufai is probably behind the recent uptick in the killings. It's a signature political move by Fulanis with money and influence. We hope he won't delete this one.
