The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally closed its case against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, ABN TV reports.

This development was disclosed by one of Kanu’s lead counsels, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after court proceedings on Wednesday.

According to Ejimakor, the presiding judge granted the defense team 14 days to file their written address in support of a no-case submission — a legal argument that Kanu has no case to answer. The prosecution was also given 14 days to respond.

With this, the matter has been adjourned until July 18, 2025, for further proceedings.

“Today, the Federal Republic of Nigeria CLOSED its case against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu… Thank you for your support,” Ejimakor posted.

The trial of Nnamdi Kanu continues to attract local and international attention, with human rights groups and observers closely monitoring the process. Kanu has remained in custody since his controversial rendition from Kenya to Nigeria in 2021.

At last, the FG has closed its case. This is a man who has been in detention since 2021 under controversial circumstances. It’s time for the court to do the right thing and let justice speak.
Keeping a man in custody for years, only to struggle to prove a case, is a stain on our justice system. Freedom must mean something in this country.
July 18, we are watching closely!

Lets not forget that till date we can't easily mention anyone that has been jailed for the massacre going on in Benue and other states till date. Maybe IPOB we have to find a way to get IPOB involved for the appropriate authority to act

The Government will release MNK. Like I always say, the government need this 'bad guys'

What a country, where a man is jailed for speaking up while others who are bearing heavy arms, sluttering people for fun, roasting villagers to oave way for cows, are petted and begged for negotiations.

Every word he spoke and prophesied is currently happening now. He warned each and everyone of us on the present marauders and land grabbers masquerading and cattle herders, but we didn't listen. Now everyone is suffering.
