The Federal Government has announced the closure of all land borders for four weeks as a measure to check the spread of coronavirus.

The weekly federal executive council has also been suspended “until further notice”.

Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation and chairman of presidential task force on COVID-19, announced this on Monday evening.

He said the council of state meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday has also been postponed.

“Ladies and gentlemen, after a further review, Mr. President on the recommendation of Presidential Task Force (PTF) has approved the following additional measures: Suspension of the weekly FEC meetings until further notice; postponement of the meeting of the Council of State scheduled for Thursday 26th March, 2020;

“All land borders that have been hitherto under partial closure shall now be closed for human traffic for four weeks effective, 23rd March, 2020; in order to protect Federal Civil and Public Servants, a circular to be issued by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) shall direct on actions to be taken immediately;

“All Abuja and Lagos residents are strongly advised to stay at home, avoid mass congregation of any kind as well as non-essential outings, until further advice is given.”

Mustapha also gave an update on the coronavirus statistic across the world, citing the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“As at the time the Honourable Minister of Health (HMoH), briefed you earlier today, the numbers from the World Health Organisation (WHO), confirmed that the virus has covered 192 countries, reporting over 329,000 cases,” he said.

“In Africa, 42 out of 54 countries have reported cases while 48 deaths have been recorded. In Nigeria, 36 cases have been reported and one fatality has occurred. The first responders, particularly the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), continues to attend to reports received through telephone calls and other medium.

“We commend Nigerians for stepping out to report and/or make enquires through the dedicated hotlines. Records show that on Sunday, 22nd March, 2020, over 4500 calls were received. This shows the high level of awareness amongst Nigerians.

“The strategy of government is to focus on testing, detection and containment through contact tracking in order to minimize hugely, the possibility of community spread. We urge anyone experiencing the symptoms of the virus or has been in contact with anyone who has been suspected or tested positive to please report at the nearest medical facility or the designated center.

“The Presidential Task Force (PTF) continues to monitor the global and domestic developments and has isolated Lagos and Abuja for particular attention in view of their population, mobility and number of cases already reported.”

Taking action on the distant past is like closing the gate after the cattle have gone.
Let’s just focus on being positive, doing the right things for ourselves, our families, friends, and communities. Gee! I thought it was all Buhari's fault!! Guess not!! Everyone is capable of screwing things up!! Not Just one person!! Unless your Buhari & everything is his doing & fault!! Pretty sad ! Every administration has some things that could have been done better!! But they should be judged over time , even after they leave!! We don’t know what goes on behind the close doors !! Anyways they don't even know where the land borders are. Even right now planes are coming from US, UK, etc landing in the airports.. about the virus is Looking more like a coordinated effort with China with many people involved. Charles Lieber, college professor at Harvard arrested for ties with China. He was arrested for lying about his ties with China. Some sources are saying Corona virus and others aren’t. He’s an American chemist. There were 3 arrested. Kathleen Sturtz Eannottie Get on the Internet and Google it. All media sources are reporting it however I would suggest trusting the media source you believe in. Some of the media is spinning it differently.

Buhari has finally heard the cry of Aisha. Very useless, spineless, rudderless and clueless government. Always on a reactive approach with no form of proactiveness in all his dealings. May God help us all. embarassed

Which means the story about the panic in the villa is true because it is being insinuated that Bala Mohammed had contact with a lot of top government officials last week.

They should also cancel all local flight and interstate land travel. We must prevent infected people from spreading it across the country. Let’s limit it to only states that have reported cases.

In addition, this is the time to shut down the FCT. All federal ministries, departments and agencies plus all private organizations should be closed for at least 14 days. Only organizations rendering essential services should be left opened. This is the time to take all the extreme measures. We cannot afford to allow things get out of hand like Italy before shutting down everywhere.

Good development morever we believe the worst is over as most hotspots are going through their critical infestation phase, at this rate infection incidences will start dropping...Sub Saharan Africa especially Nigeria will be shielded from any blow back from within and abroad by proactive measures from govt and critically by the prohibitive effect tropical temperature,wind speed and humidity play on the brittle RNA envelopes of the covid 19 virus...as such the best place to be at any rate in a pandemic is Sub Saharan Africa...

Too slow to act. At least for now, we wont be hearing God bless Nigeria with good climate that fights of Corona and all that bullcra-p-. We can see things with our very eyes now.

Anyway I was expecting to hear the total closure of borders both land and otherwise including the female border, that is border of cum.
Good thing they have decided decided to be more stringent in effecting the closure of these risk factors to clamp down the already rising numbers but I bet you that there are more people who have been exposed unbeknownst to them... Well they are all walking dead. The number keep on rising daily, this has been as a result of people whose symptoms strongly started manifesting because they have been exposed.

Chaii, this people play smart sha. How I wish they meet and the virus has opportunity to infect any of them.
Anyway, I'm sure some of them will get sick within this ravaging period and be forced to get admitted in the same hospital and health system they fail to improve.

Good, we are all trapped here both the rich and the poor. This may be blessing in disguise, so our leaders could think right and do right.
Improve health system
Improve educational system
Improve infrastructure
Let there be light (power)

Shalom!

Foolish set of people. I think they said they are on top of the situation. Why closing border, we need to make it more porous for more covid-19 to come in. Thank God we are all in for this together. No hidden place for everyone either rich or poor. They will get sense by force unless they do not go outside at all. No foreign traveling for medical check up.

Can we declare a curfew? At least, that will help us get on top of this situation. Italy has the second-best healthcare system in the world and its messing them up like that, Nigeria has the fourth worst. We need to take decisive action right now.
