I have been there, or at least in a situation where I have to decide which religious is best for me to practice, I knew I needed to follow the God of Abraham, but how to refine my search? Naturally, I must share the results I found (as I see them). Reading the "Bible," I discovered that it was not only the underpinning for Christianity, and not even ”a book,” but a library of collected works by a variety of authors spanning nearly 1,700 years. These authors agree so well in "Spirit," that many think they were written by the same Hand, and so Christendom acknowledges them to be written/inspired by God. There are hundreds of Old Testament prophecies about the Christ that match Jesus so well (coming together like a fine Swiss watch), that the fulfillment must be miraculous or Jesus’ entire life was an invention. However, great scholars accept that Jesus truly lived as the Gospels state (even if disputing his miracles). Now, I can briefly mention major faiths I studied: Judaism had promised that it would be responsible for bringing the Torah (Old Testament) to "all nations." Yet Jews stopped proselytizing after the fall of the Jerusalem Temple in 70A.D. yet the Bible came to all nations through Christianity instead (the Torah prophecied that “God’s chosen” would bring this knowlege). It was also prophesied in the Torah and Talmud that the Jews would be dispersed through all the nations at some future date, their Temple destroyed, and they would suffer for missing their "appointed time"(one of my online friend believed, but never understood, that part). The Temple was destroyed (shortly after the Crucifixion), so the Jews stopped sacrificing Passover lambs, but used the unleavened bread (a portion called the Afikomen) to symbolize the Passover Lamb. This is of utmost importance, since Christians use the same “Passover bread” for Holy Communion, the ultimate “Passover Lamb!”(and it proves Communion never came from a “mystery cult” as revisionists sometimes claim). In Jewish tradition, unleavened bread for the Afikomen is pierced and striped (in which is symbolism of Christ's passign and death). With unprecedented access to all the books of Scripture by internet, many young people have converted to "messianic Judaism," which has become a way to be Jewish and believe in Jesus... What of Islam? This was not as problematic for me to decide on due to my spiritual background and personality, which was attracted to ideals of non violence and self sacrifice. I took time to read and study the Quran and the life of Muhammad. Coming 600 + years after Christ, it was first mistaken for a Christian heresy in the West because some Biblical figures were mentioned in it’s teachings (that mistake was short lived). Muhammad stated only that he was the last prophet (not divine), prescribed rules and prayers (now more numerous among different sects), and promised a heaven with many sensual delights to the faithful. With Jesus, heaven is described in figures of speech, being a place with “many mansions,”(meaning “spacious abodes" . Those in heaven will see God, their every tear will be wiped away in spiritual fulfillment, and they will delight in new responsibilities. The resurrected body is not described (being beyond our understanding). While the Christian heaven restores nature, it primarily involves getting to know the Creator intimately for all eternity over every other delight. That fills a void in the human soul...In the "New Testament," Jesus prophecied correctly about later times on many things that have already happened: Speaking of the Jews in Luke 21:24, he predicted the diaspora, crusades, and their eventual return to reestablish the nation of Israel, 24"They will be put to the sword and taken off to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the gentiles until the time of the gentiles is fulfilled." Finally, the Christian world view makes the most sense to me and draws souls to the love of God. If God is primarily a Great, unknowable, and terrifying Deity, one may "submit," but it will be difficult to love such a Being. Jesus, however, put it best, "Just as Moses lifted up the (bronze)snake in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up." (John 3:14) And Jesus knew why, “When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself." (John 12:32) This, along with paying our debt for sin, makes all the difference... Once man knows that God is not only all-Powerful, but loving... Once we know that God loves us so much that he took on our existence, weakness, and sin, dying to save us from eternal misery (which man deserves), we see he was right! Then, I do not only submit, I do not only obey, I want to do those things and everything else possible to love in return because He has "drawn me!" Seeing a God willing to sacrifice for love of us. That alone is unique in all the world |

fuckJones:You didn't chose Christianity, you were indoctrinated into the religion by your parents who were also indoctrinated into it by their own parents. It's a cycle, you too will indoctrinate your children into the religion. Your religion is a product of the geographical location of where you were born and the family you were born into. Only few people have the balls to leave the religion they were born into. I was a Christian born into a Christian home but i took time to study religions deeply and i came to the conclusion that religion is not something to be taken seriously. Right now, with over 10,000 religions on earth today, i live my life peacefully without practicing any religion . I am simply a "none". |

If we were human beings looking for a spiritual experience then religion like Christianity MIGHT be of help, but we are spiritual beings having a human experience, so really, really the question we should be asking is What does it mean to be a human? That why it is called human BEing. What does being a human entails? The are the pertinent questions we should be asking and discussing.. I have really come a long way in life, and the best way to go is to start at the default setting. I was raised Catholic , but I took a step back to really read and make sense of what is written and not written. I started with the Torah beginning from Genesis ....I had not gone far when I realized and figured it out. We are all God's spirit experiencing life in multiple ways. The key word there is EXPERIENCE. We are experiencing the physical world. That is the reason the creator (the source) of everything gave us "The laws of existence" To the Jews it is called the torch, to the igbos it is called the omenala and omenani and the Indians, it is called the vedas. Which ever one you can lay your hands, study and experience the best possible life. The whole point of life is not to believe, but to know and live life to the fullest...This life is not and audition for the after life..it is to bring heaven down to earth. To live in peace, by seeing ourselves in every one else. To love our neighbors as we love ourselves....nothing more, and religion is the one thing militating against this divine commandment. Loosing religion is the best thing that I have ever done in my life....and I embraced the knowledge of God.... |

tamonokare:Lol....U are invalidating someone's experience, beliefs and choice, despite him, sharing his personal conviction?? Isnt it fallacy to conclude he never chose just because he has same believes like his parents.?? The truth is, at some point, everyone makes a choice no matter what they were taught as a child...everyone get to their point of conviction One question...If the OP said he's an atheist raised by atheist parent, would u have said he was indoctrinated by his atheist parent or u are just saying this now because u just assume that who anyone believes in God has no personal conviction and are just brainwashed or indoctrinated?? |

tamonokare:Stop talking dustbin. Your parents indoctrinated you to cook, clean, work hard etc yet you do what you want. Every child grows up choosing to follow any way and culture they want to |

advanceDNA:Tell them oo. They think because atheists have brainwashed them to speak like this therefore they think everyone is brainwashed is like them |

tamonokare:"None" Everyone worships something, either a god, and ideology, self, an image, a super human. Everyone worships something daily, just hope whatever you worship is worth it |
