China claimed to have hypersonic missile with nuclear war head. That said, the missile itself is not large enough to cause significant damage solely through kinetic energy.

The real danger of missiles like this comes from the shrapnel that flies in all directions as a result of the blast. Debris from the earth as well as materials from the missile itself. This shrapnel is what can cause damage to windows, cars and buildings far away from the blast area. If people are not in the line of sight of the blast, they will almost always remain safe.
