A former spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has criticised ongoing efforts to form a political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Opposition leaders under the coalition movement have applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) as a political party ahead of the 2027 general election.

The coalition is spearheaded by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and ex-governor of Kaduna Nasir el-Rufai.

While distancing himself from the discussions, the prominent Northern elder noted that he was not involved at any level of the negotiations.

He expressed concern that the opportunity to build a strong opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is being undermined by entrenched political figures prioritising their personal ambitions over collective progress.

He highlighted deep divisions within the coalition, attributing the dysfunction to a leadership unwilling to relinquish control.

This man should join politics and contest for elective positions. This country needs honest and intelligent people like him leading the masses.

Without ambition no politics. However, ambitions that align well with interests in the welfare of Nigerians and nation building are what we want.

Everyone wants to be president, no one has any idea of how to fix the nation. Those who had their chances blew it, but suddenly found an Eureka moment of problem solving.

People who cannot manage party crisis want us to believe they can manage a complex society like Nigeria.

They are singing from different hymn books regarding the coalition party. There is mutual distrust among them. What is the solution?

Let then all agree on who would run and let them back the person. They can even vote among themselves.

Coalition without any clear cut ideologies. Many of these politicians going for the coalition is just because they are not called to come and eat, some power drunk while others just out of pressure from their tribe.

Coalition or not, it's pure political comedy — the last, desperate dance of expired masquerade.

If you ask El Rufai, he would tell you he doesn't have political ambition.

But we know it's all lies. Politicians cannot just stay out of power for 2 years.

They're used to government money and influence of government positions.

Thank God the usual cries and accusations about Tinubu infiltrating their movement is over. Now they've turned to themselves and start destroying themselves

I am not a fan of Baba-Ahmed but I must give it to him. His English is very good and polished. He chooses his words carefully and is not given to rash diction. Peter Obi is not nearly as polished as Baba-Ahmed and I don't think there is a single nzougbu nzougbu that can speak English this good.

Northerners still remains the most educated people in Nigeria.
