AFRICAN STREAM IS CLOSING DOWN

This is, sadly, a farewell to you, our loyal followers and supporters. Under relentless attack, we’ve made the painful decision to shut down African Stream—a platform that many of you’ve come to trust and love. This decision was not made lightly.

The smear by then–US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on September 13, 2024, labelling African Stream “Kremlin propagandists”—triggered a wave of censorship. Within days, YouTube, Meta, Google, and TikTok removed our accounts, and we were demonetised on X. These actions shattered our ability to survive financially. Personal accounts were restricted. What followed was a daily uphill battle. Now, we’re left with only one path: closure.

We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support. Your comments, your messages, your shares—you made us stronger, sharper, and more determined.

We are deeply proud of the work we’ve done since 2022: bringing attention to the most underreported and misrepresented continent. The imperalists want to perpetuate the dominant narrative that Africa is underdeveloped due to corruption and the mismanagement of resources. They want to remove colonialism, neo-colonialism and imperialism from the picture. We refused to play by those rules. For that, we paid the price. But it’s a price we would pay again and again.

Refusing to play by their rules led to NBC saying we spread ‘disinformation’ without providing a single example of what ‘disinformation’ we shared. Voice of America condemned us for reporting a fact: since the George W. Bush administration, every US president has authorised drone strikes on Somalia. As we responded to every smear piece, we just grew bigger and stronger until, finally, those in positions of power realised the smears weren’t working, and the rest is history.

We will cease posting as of July 1, 2025, except for a few remaining documentaries from Liberia and Mali.

With your support, we managed to ruffle many feathers. Please continue the fight and keep the Pan-African flag flying. Thank you for helping us build African Stream. As we always say: #WeAreAllAfricanStream.

Background

African Stream is an online platform that stated that its goal was to tell African stories from the point of view of Africans. It is affiliated with some Nigerian journalists like David Hundeyin.

However, some people expressed concerns about the platform after it began operations. They said that the platform seemed biased.

The former United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, gave a media conference in which he announced sanctions against Russia Today (RT). He also alleged that African Streams was being funded and controlled by RT and that it was part of RT's disinformation campaign. He said that it was being used to spread fake news and propaganda in Africa.

African Streams was banned from Facebook, Instagram and other platforms after Secretary Blinken's speech. They were still operating on X, but they feared that they would be banned there too.

African Streams rejected the US Government's allegations and claimed that it was an independent platform for Africans.

To run a media and be consistent, you need to be neutral , devoid emotions from your analysis, put your political, tribe or religion aside

Joe Rogan, Prof Lumumba, you will always come back for their podcast as long as you have the time to hear issue based without being sentiment

It's well. Try to seek alternative sources of funding by for instance, making the platform subscription based. That way you don't have to go under.

This is truly heartbreaking. African Stream gave voice to stories the world often ignores. Thank you for your courage, your truth, and your relentless dedication to Pan Africanism. The impact you have made will never be forgotten. The struggle continues, and your legacy lives on. ✊🏾🖤🌍

David is a great guy sincerely, I think he opened my perspective on the exploitation of Africans and it's continent from a geopolitical stand point.

However he's too strong with some of his position and on certain topics not entertaining opposite views or descending on incorrect information with massive insults.

We had contrary views on a topic and his action was nothing short of wonder I responded in kind though. I had facts verifiable ones but it is what it is.

Where are all the people who were loudly supporting Israel in the Israel-Iran war? Can’t you see the pattern? If you're upset about African Stream being shut down by Western powers for challenging dominant narratives, and the next, you’re blindly echoing those same Western narratives when it comes to global conflicts, then I'm lost of words for you.

If you condemn Iran while supporting Israel’s aggression based solely on what CNN, BBC etc, or whatever Western governments feed you, but still express outrage over African Stream’s shutdown, then you’re either not serious or very ignorant.

You can’t be against imperialist censorship and still embrace imperialist propaganda when it aligns with your uninformed and ignorant biases. That’s exactly the kind of mental colonisation African Stream is trying to fight, now it's being silenced. E go soon clear for una eyes.

The platform was trying to resist neocolonialism and promote panafricanism. You don't take on such cause and stay neutral.

They put all their investments into western controlled platforms: meta, Google, x, Facebook. Once these platforms shut u out u are done for. They should have tried telegram and also establish an independent platform outside of these major channels.

Honestly bro, my heart bleeds and I am sometimes moved to tears whenever I read about the mindset and biased narratives of an average African, especially Nigerians when it comes to the West and All imperialists who are responsible for the backwardness of Africa as a whole.

It's heartbreaking. Many of them don’t even know how Nigeria was formed, why our borders are the way they are, or how colonial rule deliberately sowed ethnic divisions to weaken unity. They don’t ask why youth unemployment is so high, why we import what we can produce, or why Africa, with all its potential, remains unindustrialised. The same people will criticise the government without realising that it’s not just about corruption, there are external forces, more powerful than any president, pulling strings behind the scenes. Yes, the government is corrupt, but that’s part of a larger system designed to keep us weak and dependent. Then the oppressed will jump to defend Israel, an apartheid state backed by the same imperialist powers that censor or shuts down voices that don't align with their narratives.

What's worse? Many think they’re informed because they watch Western news, when in reality, they’re consuming filtered narratives meant to keep Africa in its place. Colonisation didn't end bro. It's just not physical, it's mental.

I totally get where you are coming from. It’s true that David is deeply passionate, and he brings a lot of awareness to critical issues, especially regarding Africa. but I agree passion should never shut the door on respectful dialogue or opposing views, having strong opinions is fine, but there’s always room for constructive exchange, especially when facts are involved. It’s unfortunate things went the way they did, but I respect that you stood your ground with facts, sometimes, even in disagreement, we learn and grow even if the conversation doesn’t end ideally
