This is a transformative step for Nigeria’s energy future. Giving states control means solutions can be tailored to local needs. Now, the real work is building the capacity to deliver reliable power for all. |

Putindbutt:I knew he will fix this issue after his bitter experience with the defunct system where electricity is placed in exclusive list. |

Elusive001:Can you satisfy Lazy Nigerians people? No. In America we have Toledo Electricity, DTE for Detroit, NYC Electricity. Etc. All the states and cities are fully decentralized and working. |

You think abdicating responsibility is the way to fix power? Tinubu said if he cannot fix power in 4yrs, he should not be voted for dederocs: |

EXCELLENT!! Now people should face their useless governors and DEMAND power generation from them. No more blaming Abuja |

DMerciful:Gibberish...now we will know who the empty barrels are... companies, people create their own power systems and you come here to say a state can't work with partners and create power. Tinubu is doing the right thing, we are not joined in the hip, we are not truly one, it's good to release us from the bondage of backward people. Every state for itself, those who can't think and progress will perish alone, time of drawing others back is gone. True federalism, decentralisation is the idea, and this was the original concept for Nigeria, next is state police, and state can have laws. |

Treasure17:It is just because you lack comprehension to understand what really is restructuring. It is just one step after the other, the next is state police and resource control |

Here it's ban for anyone who criticises Tinubu's act of abandonment of responsibilities. Tinubu promised that if he did not provide enough electricity before 2027, Nigerians should not vote for him in 2027. Now Tinubu is shying away from his promise through passing the buck to State governors. |

TimeManager:Someone must have been dealt with/sacked. National grid collapse died a natural death. It was a national sabotage. The politicians started screaming billions of dollars to fix it. I believe there's more to Tinubu signing this, just invest and cash out but the polithiefcians won't. Nigeria will prosper under full privatisation with government agencies as regulators 🤷🏿 |

THE BENEFITS OF THE ELECTRICITY DECENTRALIZATION ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. IMPROVED EFFICIENCY AND RESPONSIVENESS. State governments can respond more quickly to local power needs and challenges. Reduces bureaucratic delays common with centralized control. 2. ENHANCED INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES States can attract independent power producers (IPPs) and other investors. More localized projects like mini-grids and renewable energy systems become viable. 3. BETTER ACCOUNTABILITY Citizens can hold their state governments more accountable for electricity supply. Transparency is easier to enforce at a smaller, regional scale. 4. CUSTOMISED ENERGY SOLUTIONS States can adopt energy solutions based on their natural resources (e.g., solar in the North, hydro in the South). Allows for innovation and tailored approaches to energy generation and distribution. 5. JOB CREATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH Local energy projects generate employment and stimulate state-level economic activity. Stable electricity supply supports small businesses and industrialization. 6. REDUCES PRESSURE ON THE NATIONAL GRID Encourages the development of state-based grids and off-grid systems. Less dependence on the fragile national transmission infrastructure. |

Putindbutt:Welcome to the grounds for full removal of electricity subsidy . We are ALL going to Band A . Is it a good thing ? I believe so if the governors will be serious about this . It will also help the power sector . But people will pay shege banza for light . Note that the new tax bill already removed paying VAT from Electricity . Now the FG is removing hands for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity . Next to go in the coming months if not weeks is electricity subsidy |

Elusive001:The Federal government is not the solution to Nigeria's power issues. The solution to Nigeria power issue is decentralization of the entire system. How many countries has large as Nigeria depends solely on a national grid even China does not. They have regional and mini grids. Restructuring as already commenced by bit. With time, it will turn to security as well because this is a federation. |

Finally, for doing this, I will register to vote for Tinubu in the next election. He has done what I wanted all my life. I trust my State to disconnect us from the national grid since we already have a power plant that can run the state 247. Band A is almost 247 but I am hoping with States in charge, we will enjoy some form of subsidy for manufacturing. |

What kind of playing on our collective intelligence is this? Sone folks will be thinking this is a welcome development. There is nothing special here. In fact, the bill itself is absolute gibberish. Electricity is a matter that is already contained in the concurrent legislative list. States already have this power. They refused to do anything. A bill will not change anything. I don't understand the necessity to do this rubbish again. |

surgical:Let me remind you of some other things that Tinubu has done. 1. Full financial autonomy for Local Governments thereby setting the LG free from the evil State governments. 2. Approval for State Police. When implementation is done, each State indegenes will protect their people from bandits and herdsmen. 3. Students Loans |

Elusive001:Is this the result of poverty or hunger? Find something to eat first and come back. Mind you, he has given approval for State Police and each State is working on its own modalities. So you go cry tire. As for Goatluck Jonathan, we have kicked him out for good |

| Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by SmartPolician: 2:13pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
dederocs:If Tinubu truly wants to decentralise power supply, he must remove oil and gas from the exclusive list. Power is energy that comes from a source. Governors won't use their blokkos to generate it. They will only play politics with this. Na muuumuu people full Nairaland! |
| Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by SmartyPants(m): 2:14pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
discusant:That's not the right way to look at it. What this Act does is to create simultaneous power regimes: the existing National structure and a parrellel structure which allows any state to take itself off the grid. The FG is not taking its hands off power, it's simply allowing more hands come to the table. This can open the door for private companies to take over in partnership with the States, and it will greatly benefit those that already have suitable resources for power generation. The States don't have to spend a penny. |

This is good news. This is one of the best bill sign into law in this regime. This will soon end the monopoly of BEDC, AEDC and all distribution companies. |
