Putindbutt:..This is the kind c of fundamental changes a former nadeco chieftain like Tinubu should have been making since....not playing tribal politics....next is state police? |

Gbadebo19:See how you dey confuse yourself, Electricity is in the exclusive list, and at the same time, the control is in the hand of the state . May God put sugar into your soul.. Bitterness no dey pay. |

They(federal) will only partner with the states and assist with grants and funds. But the states are in full power! Don't you see America! All the states there are independent. They raise revenues and contribute what they can give to the federal and use the majority liquidity to maintain their respective states! Elusive001: |

Putindbutt:If this man enter for second term. I am very sure he will change the constitution of Nigeria and make it a decentralized state with higher responsibilities and powers relinquished to states. The presidents after him will beore of ceremonial while the governors and LGA chairmen will be more responsible for their people. He is taking it bit by bit now because of political reasons, when he wins he will do the do. HE WILL GO DOWN AS THE BEST PRESIDENT NIGERIA EVER HAD. |

discusant:The sub nationals don't have any excuse for being poor and redundant.......develop your state an investments will thrive.....why would a gov be pointing to abija when he can't pay salaries of civil servants it employed itself without fg consent.....how can a gov of say Ogun state be pointing to abija if the people can't get cheap garri when the state has humongous potential for cassava production. |

What we should presently be anticipating from the president is the signing of the decentralization and autonomy of the policing system. Full autonomy of the electoral system. Resource control Decentralization of ports! Removal of the authority of the president to select and appoint the CJN. Full autonomy of the LGA chairmen! What I see is just a duplication! This same electricity act has already been signed by the former president! |

Putindbutt:But this news was also published last year. That states can take charge of electricity. Why the repetition? |

Elusive001:He was the first sun national head to introduce ipp when he broke Enron of America to provide electricity in early 2000 and it held a lot of promise but was killed by the vindictive short sighted obj at the time......Lagos would have long forgotten about power problems by now and other states would have followed.....this project failed due to lack of legislation and that's what he has just done.. you need to give him kudos...we are over 29 years late on this |

AguluLiar:How did the region lag behind, when oil was discovered in Oloibiri in the old Eastern region. The main stay of the economy was coal at that time and it was on the Eastern region. |

DMerciful:Interestingly, this act has already been signed by Buhari in 2023! I still don't understand signing the same act in 2025! Abi e wan claim Buhari glory? |

Elusive001:Trump doesn't control policing in any state in America, they all have their independent policing legislation. |

Elusive001:Some people are naturally bitter and hateful When Tinubu was governor he tried to generate power in Lagos state. He brought in a company called ENRON and Obasanjo did everything to frustrate it. No matter what you say a number of key strategic moves have been made under this government The same Obasanjo went to a Paris court to testify about the Mambilla Plateau project. Now that court case is soon to be resolved and that project will start. No one can accuse this government of not having a vision for power I am not even a supporter of TInubu but the hatred is too much He is in power for the next 2 years and must be supported whether you like it or not The SW already has a plan for power . If you like do not hold your regional governors to account . Continue beefing |

surgical:Our Governors only have 4-8 years vision for their state, and in that period all they are after is the free allocation from Abuja. Long-term investment is never in their minds. |

| Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by Irony1: 2:51pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
APCNig:First of all it is only student loans that he has done. The state police has not been approved. Also despite local government autonomy nothing has changed. The governors still control funds and control who sit in the local governments. |

stanluiz:We will get there,it's a gradual process.....it would have been better if you can keep advocating for development policies rather than keep hating tinubu......that's how to grow a nation. |

| Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by Irony1: 2:53pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
SmartyPants:If Tinubu is sincere, let him remove electricity from the exclusive list. Also this is not the first time he has brought a bill giving states power over electricity generation. In 2024 the bill was signed and up till now states haven't done anything simply because electricity is still in the exclusive list. |
| Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by babat89: 2:53pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
immaculatesense:The uproar from the tax ammendment palava made him soft-pedal a bit. The North is very scared as we speak. Na dem dey benefit from the current centralised government the most... Reason they start crying once they are not in power. |
| Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by bentenny(m): 2:54pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
aribisala0:Why would Tinubu do an independent power system knowing fully well that there was an existing law stopping him from providing power to his citizens then? That's simply grandstanding! Obasanjo didn't stop him! The 1999 constitution then where electricity law was on the exclusive list stopped him! |
| Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by kay29000(m): 2:57pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
First time ever on Nairaland I would see 90% of people praise Tinubu for his move in the comment section ![]() |

bentenny:If you don't know what happened it is better to be silent and then do some research There was no law stopping him doing what he did so research What you are doing here now is grandstanding Who said anything about INDEPENDENT . You are one of those superficial people who think they are intellectual You are not Enron actually did come in and was generating adding to the national grid. That Happened. No grandstanding Was Tinubu president when the Aba power plant started Had this new legislation been signed? Inform yourself before you talk |
