I use an iPhone 15 currently. I have been in the iPhone ecosystem since the days of iPhone 5s, only skipping the 8 for an X. I don’t use iPhone for luxury. I use it because of the smooth UI and fluidity. I hate that apple lock down their phones so much. I am currently using trollstore on iOS 17.0 to sideload apps and tweak my phone to my desire. Hence why I’ll die with this iPhone 15, or if another jailbreak or tweak comes out for these new iPhones.

I love Samsung, pixel and the Redmi turbo device I saw one time on this website and I’ll argue that these are better phones than the iPhone. But In the end I still come back to iOS because of that fluidity. It’s just missing on android social apps. I really wish android will try this to perfection so it will be, bye bye iPhones for me, but I know it has to do with developers optimizing their apps, and swift integration is what will give you this, which iOS uses.
Personally I think I prefer iPhones due to their screen reliability and cheap replacement when compared with Samsung

I honestly don know why people are crazy over iPhones. Maybe it's brand loyalty or something else. I use iPhone as a workplace phone and I hate it. Nothing like a good android phone.

Stop consoling and deceiving yarselfs, iphone is a brand and class on it's own, the number one that has always been in competition with Samsung since time 1900.
Apple brand itself is a whole lot
There are lots of apple fans worldwide.
Apple is very solid brand and OS on its own. Those that knows, knows
They didn't beg anyone to over hype or overate them, it's a Nigerian culture thing.
Americans use iphones like everyday normal stuffs, it's only in Nigeria that everything dey different. Same thing with having a car.
There are a lot of Lamborghini fans worldwide doesn't make it a very practical brand....people buy iPhone for the same reason they buy Lamborghinis Ferrari for the status symbol

I hear some people say expensive gadget and toys helps secure good deal...I love Iphone mainly because of the speed, but I don't see myself changing this Xs Max unless it stopped working, I've had it since 2021...
Android is a necessity, I have honor 9N which I use to install modded apps I can't use with Iphone...
XS max battery no be am.

I’m on vacation at the moment, e come be like say na only me Dey carry power bank.

Higher models have better battery life co.

XS max is outdated though it still gets updates. That may soon stop as well.

Sir, at this time and age, I think value for money should be the most priority. Having said this, I'm dishing my Samsung 'not flagship' for Tecno camon 40 pro.

Ire oo
Thinking of getting this too. Why are people into this Tecno Camon 40 Pro sef. I know it is a good phone and solid...just curious about why you want it sha...coz it seems we are thinking the same thing.

I have been considering iPhones, but they are too overpriced. Let's forget the devaluation of the naira. Anyway, wanted to go for the iPhone 16e before, but looking at the price, that can buy three Tecno Camon 40 Pro. While I am still 'managing', I can only cough up such an amount for Macbook Air laptops...it is useful for me than a phone i just seldom play games on...rest na just normal surfing

As for Samsung, na screen issues dey make me avoid am like the plague. Tecno lasts...the peace of mind.

Before i buy a phone...i look out for the basic things i need in the phone, Most andriod phones this days come with 5000mah..So battery isnt a problem for me...Features like
i. AMOLED or super Amoled display
ii. RAM ( Minimum 8g)
Ii CAMERA atleast 50Mp/selfie 30mp
Ii. Software update upto 5yrs
Ii. If the phone heats up when using.
Ii Water/dust resistant level atleast: IP67
And most especially an affordable price.

This is basically what i always look out in a phone in the last 3 years. Not because Mr A buy I also want to buy, that is the story of most iphone users.
Yes. This is a good specification guide to note.

This might offend some people but I’ll still say it: iPhones are not for everyone.

‎I’ve used both iPhones and Androids and as much as I respect the clean UI and camera of iPhones not everyone needs a phone that costs as much as rent in Lagos 😭. Some of us just want a phone that:

‎•Won’t die before 3pm

‎•Charges fast

‎•Has decent camera for weekend pictures

‎•Doesn’t freeze mid-Zoom call

‎•Doesn’t make us check our account balance before buying data 😩

‎I used to think I needed an iPhone until I realized I was basically using a ₦900k phone to scroll Twitter, snap food pics and watch Instagram skits that my Android could’ve shown me the same way 😭. I switched to a realme phone a few months ago and I won’t lie, I had my reservations. I mean, the name alone feels like something you'd see on the back of a power bank 😭 but omo… this phone has been doing the most.

‎✅ Battery that actually lasts (I charge once a day now)
‎✅ No unnecessary heat even during long calls
‎✅ Camera quality? Surprisingly solid.
‎✅ Smooth UI... No glitchy wahala or clutter

‎It’s not perfect sha. The name still doesn’t sit well with me and people still look at me somehow when I say it but if we’re talking value for money, I’m not sure anything else comes close right now.

‎So let's argue:
‎-Do you need an iPhone or is it just vibes and pressure?
‎-What brand are you using that actually shocked you (in a good way)?
‎-And why do we look down on phones with “unpopular” names?
This is the most (if not only) sensible post I’ve come across here for a very long time.
I have a recent model IMac 27.
I have an MacBook Pro
I have an IPad Pro 12.9.
However. I only recently started using an iPhone for the first time ever and hype aside, I prefer my Samsung galaxy note 9 which I’m still keeping by the way!
So yes, most people wants an iPhone or own one largely for they hype!

I just cannot be pressured. Still using my iPhone 8+ for three years, iPhone has this fluidity for me, but I don’t mind a Samsung or newer android
Re: Let’s Be Honest, iPhones Are Not For Everyone by grandstar(m): 11:43pm On Jun 29, 2025
Let's be honest, there are only 2 phone brands for people who want to Polish their image:iPhone and Samsung

I have used all Chinese models. Huawei and Redmi , though great, do not carry thr kind of image Samsung and iPhone give.

Funny thing is that you can buy a Samsung with RAM of 128mb for around 130k.

I must say, OP, that I opened your thread expecting the typical empty boastful rhetoric and flexing of financial muscle that Nigerians exhibit on this iPhone v Android debate.

But your factual, measured and intellectual analysis of the issue was a delight to read.

I hope others learn from you.

Hello, you mean you jailbroke your iPhone phone 15?

If yes I'll like to know if part of the tweaking includes cloning of apps on the iPhone...

All I know is that I will only use a phone that I can comfortably earn with.

There are tools that aren't built for android (in my line of work) that are already functioning on iPhone vice versa.

Currently, all the tools I need to get my work done fast and easy are all on google play store (I certainly don't need an iPhone yet 😉 maybe i will never even use it) but when the need to upgrade arises, and the tool needed to ease my work can only be found on apple store, I'll gladly get myself an iPhone (abi wetin i dey work for😋) shikena.

I have met people who act as if the phone (which isn't android) they use/hold automatically raises their status 😀
But when I perform with my Samu for dia front, dem go know sey no be by wetin you dey use abi hold but wetin you dey use the phone achieve.

I rest my case 😕

iPhone is a status symbol. Plain and simple. Androids can do everything and more for a lesser price. Also every year you don't need to start rushing to upgrade and buy the latest iPhone umpteenth.
Status symbol only in Nigeria, right?

That's poverty mentality

I have used samsung, tecno, xiaomi, realme and i tell this, iPhones are just the best out there. You get to a level that you want reliability, my xiaomi died on me without warning, the tenco at some point pop out in the front camera area which made the light there too bright at night and was embarrassing. If Samsungs show you shege u will humble. Iphones are simply the best i have used iPhone 6-8-X-13-15 and not one of them failed me.

Contrary to believes iPhones are the cheapest, i have 5 esims do you know how much an android with esim cost now? iPhones are not overrated

I can bet you that a larger number of iphone users, especially in Nigeria, chose the phone because of other people's perception.
I nearly made that mistake.
Currently, more than 95 % of my colleagues at work use iphones.
After a few weeks of interactions and the "you only live once" kinda talk, I decided I'll buy an iphone 6 pro max.
That'll be my entire one month salary oo!
But I didn't mind. I wanted to follow them and live the life once!
More embarrassing (or so I thought) would be times when we'll go on fun trips and they'll be taking pictures.
Me and my "palasa" Tecno Android would be dragging behind the line.
Oh well...
My appetite for the 16 pro max grew even wetter!
A little sense strayed into me and I decided I'd buy the 14 pro max instead.
I headed for the store with the money.
Unfortunately (maybe fortunately for me), in this country in live in, once a newer iphone model hits the shelves, the older ones begin to disappear.
I visited almost all the big retail phone stores but didn't find the 14 pro max.
Sad!!
When I got back to my apartments, I took out a note book and started listing the things I actually do with my phone;
Nairaland,
WhatsApp calls,
Facebook,
Instagram (once in a while),
LinkedIn,
My bank apps,

I checked my Tecno phone again and all of these were working very well.
Why then do I need to spend this much money to buy a phone just to "live once"?

"You've got the money bro, spend it!"

That was the voice at the back of my head. But the poor voice was sadly far.
I turned to the front page of my notebook (which serves as my plan book) and wrote in CAPS:

BUYING OF IPHONE POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Then my phone rang.
It was my niece.
I knew it was going to be a long conversation so I took my time before tapping the green icon.
"Uncleeeeeeeeeee...." She said in her usual cheerful tone, followed by a short giggling laughter that has "I have a very big request" laced all over the words and syllables.
"Hi sweerie..."
I managed to keep my voice placed and cool...
"Uncle we get gist oo. But before the gist, I want to ask you for something. It's really important, sir."
She said without dropping the oil in her voice.
"Go ahead my dear. Uncle always has your back"
I responded with the assurance of someone who has at least 50 million to give away.
Sometimes I wonder what gives me that sort of confidence with my 300k account balance.
But it is what it is!
"Please I need 2 mil..."
And there was silence.
"Hello, hello, heellllooo..."
But my hellos returned no response.
I looked at my phone and realized that it has died on me!
Wtf!!
I checked the battery before the call and it was in good percentage.
The voice at the back of my head drew closer now..
"Iphone or nothing", it whispered.
I picked up my pen, turned to the front page of my notebook, stuck out the earlier suspension lines, and wrote;
"Buying of iphone..."
And then I heard the start-up sound of my Tecno phone.
The phone is back up by itself!!
Oh wow!!

...to be continued.
