AKALAMAGBO:Those already on the health and care route are mostly exempt - they can continue to extend their visas and bring in dependants if they already had the right to do so. The main change is the increase in the relevant salary thresholds which they will have to meet when extending their visas. For new applicants - most NHS band 3 and 4 roles will no longer be eligible for sponsorship except a few roles like nursing auxiliaries and assistants (6131) which have been added to the Temporary shortage list until the end of 2026 (new sponsorship applicants for jobs on the shortage lists will not be able to bring dependants) Though not explicitly stated, it is implied and likely that anyone who is sponsored before this date (and the 2028 cut off for care workers) will still be able to renew their visas after the occupation codes are demised from the shortage lists. |

Another massive Uturn from Starmer on his flagship Welfare bill. Two Uturns in the space of 1 week, that have effectively neutered the bill, all in a desperate bid to avoid a humiliating defeat in the vote. His own MPs have called the process "unedifying" ,"shambolic", "incoherent" etc ...and now tax rises are very likely to be announced in the Autumn budget statement to make up the £5bn shortfall from the welfare bill....(Assuming there isn't a shuffle before then to replace Reeves and/or Kendall). Terrible optics just 1 year after a huge electoral win. It looks like they had more slogans than they had actual plans. Hopefully Starmer and co will reflect on what went wrong and the right lessons will be learned. |

Lexusgs430:Truth be said, I was looking at #TSLA the other day and wondered if to break ranks and take a bite with my 'risk portfolio' but mind no gree me- hands are tied too. Im curious .. what do u really think of TSLA? Markets have been good though. Kudos to the person who filled their ISA on April 6. Chap is over 20% up and counting.

RodgersAkpafu:Hehe.. Elon should be sensible enough to avoid locking horns with a president like Trump moreso with the current state of TSLA globally. Successful businesssmen all over the world know the difference between political and financial power. Even the tech bosses bending the knee likely disdain Trump I hear he is looking to start a new party - good for him and his followers cos it'd be too early to go back to the Dems |

His own MPs have called the process "unedifying" ,"shambolic", "incoherent" etc ...and now tax rises are very likely to follow in the Autumn budget statement to make up the £5bn shortfall from the welfare bill....(Assuming there isn't a shuffle before then to replace Reeves and/or Kendall). Terrible optics just 1 year after a huge electoral win. It looks like they had more slogans than they had actual plans, too used to being in attack mode and not prepared for government. Hopefully Starmer and co will reflect on what's gone wrong and the right lessons will be learned. |

mex551:Good old calamine lotion should work. Or Poxclin, perhaps, at a stretch. Whatever you do, stop scratching yourself. You could get those infected. In the days when I used to have the odd malaria bout and was dealing with chloroquine and the associated itching I would wear something long sleeved so you don't scratch open wounds. Piriton used to work for the chloroquine itching; it's OTC so you could try it? |

For a role within the Civil service that says “Not being in the Uk for 3 yrs, you won’t be able to pass the Pre-employment checks”. Is it still worth it attending the interview? |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Goke7: 12:55pm On Jul 02, 2025 |
Fraih:You can attend the interview for just experience sake. Some times if you do well in the interview they can place you on reserve for 12 months and perhaps you may now be eligible then for the 3 year rule considering when you entered the UK. |

Zahra29:The UK is not ready to do what it takes to save this country The policies will bring some pain now, but if they are not done soon, this country will face a hard reset in future and that would be unpalatable Starmer has no spine and it's shameful |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by RodgersAkpafu: 1:02pm On Jul 02, 2025 |
lavida001:UK is NOT BROKE UK is held hostage by neoliberalism That's the problem |

lavida001:Apparently so. Government spokesperson says it relates to a personal matter. Wishing her the best. Politics is a brutal game. |

RodgersAkpafu:Agree that welfare reform is much needed and as soon as possible. I don't think Starmer is spineless per se....but he needs to be able to better read the room and not wait for a rebellion or Reform surging in popularity to bounce him into doing the sensible thing. The sensible thing in this case should have been to wait until the review was complete, and perhaps more thorough consultations with PIP claimants and other affected parties ,better communication of the objectives and benefits of welfare reform etc, instead of trying to rush through a hastily put together bill. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Cyberknight: 2:29pm On Jul 02, 2025 |
Zahra29:As far as the Labour wets are concerned, the Red Tories are putting burnishing their neoliberal credentials above everything else, so they took heed of their self-interest and Starmer played into their hands, so they've now won this round. |

But even occupations on the temporary shortage list had to be paid new salary threshold of more than 40k For example a laboratory technician still has to meet salary threshold of 49k plus. Who is going to pay a technician that amount? @zarah correct me if I am wrong Zahra29: |

brine:Thanks for the quick response, bro. I really appreciate it. Makes sense to pay that extra £500. To be honest, waiting two weeks for such life changing news would seriously stress me out. Because I have just have a few questions, I think it'll be nice to just keep the convo here for the benefit of everyone, since you don't mind. Please feel free to skip any you’re not comfortable answering, or if you feel you might dox yourself. - Is it okay to use my home address for my companies official address? - At the time you applied, did your company have more than one client? I might only have one by the time I apply. Just wondering if you think that would be a red flag. - Did you handle your books yourself or work with an accountant? - Did you get an immigration lawyer involved or just figured it out on your own? Thanks again in advance. And no pressure at all, feel free to only respond to whatever you can or have time for. |

jedisco:Yes, it would seem so. I myself wasn’t aware of this route until a couple of months ago. I think with the recent adjustments published yesterday for the SWV salary threshold might still be in my favour. They've split the salary into categories A to E. I still need to study it more closely. From my current understanding, the initial £220+ per month loss I calculated could potentially come down a bit. Thanks so much, brother for the well wishes |

gabiomoesu:It's 10 working day(2 weeks) for priority service and it's 8 weeks for the standard process. Also, they can change an existing priority to standard application(without refund) if the application is not straight forward. See the answer to your questions below: - Yes, you can use your home address. I used mine as I have an extra room that I use as my office space. - At the time I applied, I had zero clients becuase I was already made redundant at my previous job and trading my company would be illegal. What I had were potential clients. - I handle accounting myself using quickbooks. Although I am thinking of switching to Xero. I paid an accountant about 80pounds once to have a look at the amount I was paying myself because I thought I was doing it wrongly and this was after I had already gotten the sponsorship license. - Yes, I consulted with an immigration lawyer before I started but I didn't go ahead with him. I was going through the skilled worker sponsor list one day and noticed businesses near me like barbershops, hair salons, small phone repair shops and I said Bleep this, if these small businesses can get a sponsorship licence, then so can I. I think my business plan might have helped. It was very detailed and included forecasted revenue. I also think putting in a decent amount in the bank account also helps. I put in about 40k into the business account. |
