Good day everyone applying to, intending to apply to or thinking about applying to New Zealand.

I thought about posting my journey after successfully landing in Aotearoa New Zealand, but something told me that was a lack of faith right there! So I shall be sharing my journey to the land of the Kiwi's as it progressess.

I am not a betting man, but I can see Aotearoa New Zealand overtaking many of the popular destinations in the future, that's if you can manage paying the fees in full (not compulsory if you are taking the AIP route - you apply for the visa first and if successful, you then pay the school fees, in full), and taking a two day trip in economy (or business ) class.

Had I know about Aotearoa New Zealand, I wouldn't have wasted money on Canadian study application fees and I would have started preparations earlier, I would have jejely done my IELTS Academic since and kept, (IELTS Academic is compulsory for Aotearoa New Zealand schools - my school required a minimum of 6 across all bands, and a 6.5 overall score) - so yeah you're gonna do that IELTS Academic, its not hard, its just English. At the time of posting this, it costs 266,000.00 Naira for the exam.

For the school fees, I got a hefty bursary of 15,000 NZD (I would have gotten a scholarship but as I didn't take my books seriously I missed it), anyway I said thank you Lord for giving me a sign! So try and see if you can get a scholarship or a bursary, and for this I would recommend using an agent, I used IDP (I hope this is not an advert, I am just sharing the steps I took), they don't charge a dime, you just know what you want to study and that makes the work easier.

You’re welcome. The academic requirements for the University of Waikato are on their website, so it’s best you check there before applying, the good thing is that there are no application fees for NZ Schools - so you don’t lose money if your application is rejected.

Good day all hopefuls. After two PhD denied application, I switched to MSc and I was just given the offer. But I'm afraid I had to defer since their tuition was crazy, no scholarship and I had to pay and get my visa by 21 July since semester two starts here. I am hopeful

for the first trial, I guess it was because my msc transcript wasn't ready as I was in grad school then. The decision o the second one actually came faster even though I don't believe that I was not qualified for a PhD. They said I didn't meet the requirements, no reason whatsoever.
My supervisor was very patient with me through the whole process.
I just decided to apply for a masters and got in. My challenge is there was no funding

If you apply to Auckland University of Technology, just give them like two months to answer you, in-between that time, they will just be bombarding you with advertisements in your email, each time you would be thinking that it is an important update.

how I wish I knew exactly why they came to that conclusion. Well i have moved on and I'm now considering a fresh application. How do I measure the research component of a degree to know if it is up to 25%?

I applied to Auckland university of technology since April for PhD but they have not given me admission. Although, they have been updating me about the process, they asked me to nominate like 3 supervisors and will talk to them on my behalf, I did but non of them is ready to accept me according to them. They asked me to nominate other ones too, we have been on this for almost two months now and no admission yet. Did anyone experience this too?

To be frank, to increase acceptance from supervisors, one should just align their proposed phd thesis with the supervisor area of research/interest.

I don’t want to assume but is your thesis relevant to their areas of interest? Or are you willing to do one in their area of interest.
Also have you researched their work, I saw somewhere that when reaching out to these “mini-gods” you need to at least show that you did some research on them.

Yes, I did research on them before nominating them. My research proposal was in line with their research areas of interest, so that was why I was surprised that they didn't accept me. Thanks for your reply

- Find a supervisor.
- Research on their field(s) of interest.
- Contact the supervisor.
- Present the supervisor with your proposed PhD thesis or if you prefer to work on their subject area.
- If they agree to supervise you then...
- Contact the school to get their agents in Nigeria, if they have any, for the school application.
- Contact the agent and they will take it off from there.

Does the PhD comes with funding , if No whats the range of tuition.

Secondly is it compulsory to use an agent for phd after the supervisor has accepted.

Lastly if there is funding , do i still need to show proof of funds.

I actually got a two years research masters degree and that figure is just one year of tuition. There are always scholarships for Doctorate degrees. How come you were asked to pay tuition

Thank you for this , regarding the question i was only exploring incase i didnt get a funding i would look into paying for the first year, then after i get there i should get a funding. One of the supervisor i saw at unuversity of otago added that funding and scholarship are competitive, however he shared link to where i can get scholarship from the school page. Some of those scholarship are for 2nd year PhD.

TLDR: my plan is if i can get it and pay for first year then i can try secure funding for second year. Might not be the very best option.

Which made me to ask if the tuition stated was for the whole 4 years as the tuition is thesame for domestic applicant in phd cases
