Hi guys, please I've been trying to upload my updated i-20 for fall after I created a ticket but it's having issues uploading. Who has experienced something similar? Can I upload it as an image instead of pdf? Please help
If you are using a laptop for the upload, change file type option to all files. Otherwise, you can’t upload pdf files

Please, someone should share a link to WhatsApp or telegram visa appointment date search group.

Thank you!
Please did you find a group

If your refusal wasn't within the last year (12 months from your current appointment) according to the instruction on the portal, I think you should be good. Then if not Chikzy, I think you should just speak to your school at this point, if deferrement would be an option.
Please do you have a date search group?

Raise a ticket with Avits and attach the new DS-160 confirmation page. They will change it for you within 2 business days.

Are you in any date search group please?

No, it wont show. The only way you'll know if it has been approved is when you receive an email stating either approval or denial. Then after you'll be asked to reschedule your appointment.

I haven't heard of anyone being successful with emergency requests.
Please if you have got any success with this let keep us updated… seems this will be the next phase of this process in the coming days … appointment date are opening up although for next year …. The next thing would be people asking for expedition …. Which seems to be the next bus stop

With this profile, you can apply directly for a fully funded PhD in some universities.

But from all your writeup, you sound very very desperate.
Calm down and do your research thoroughly or email me and we'll discuss your prospects.
Honestly, I'm getting desperate because Nigeria feels like a dead-end. Last month, my Kenyan girlfriend sent me money, and when I checked the exchange rate, it hit me hard – believing Nigeria will get better seems like a fantasy and fallacy. Nigeria is like a tunnel with no light at the end. A poet aptly titled his collection "This Country Is a Lie." I'm not naive, though. I want to start preparing for a better future. I've been following this thread since before I got admitted to university, and it's been a huge inspiration. Desperation won't cloud my judgment; I'll do things legally. Preparation is key, and I'll take the necessary steps. When the time comes, I'll book a flight with Qatar Airways from MMIA– no drama. grin

Poorman.

1. Yes, your profile is per average to compete as you have combined academic feat or prowess with extracurricular activities, which also places you in the position of future leader or manager ■ either in politics or in the businessworld.

2. Keep exploring the more. Google or direct school websites are in the best positions to give you the current and updated admission information. Keep sending admission query to as many schools as you can.

NB: U.S. schools should have removed Nigeria out of standardized test requirements because I see it as an insult to educated Nigerians. Having studied from Primary school up to University level in pure British English is more than sufficient to understand any American lecturers in the class / lecture room . They may only peg it for competitive scholarships. Anyways, 35% of U.S. institutions have already waived or waiving it. 👍
@Efe, I call you Baba Efe. Thank you for your responses. May God bless you abundantly for your selfless service to the community of japa Nigerians seeking opportunities in the US, especially on Nairaland grin

Good morning guys

please I will sincerely appreciate anyone who would advise me, I have been trying for weeks to pay my F1 visa on the AVITS portal but everytime I click on GENERATE in order to generate a deposit slip the error message it brings is "something went wrong" . i have crated several support ticktets but their instructions aren't working and i have now lost hope.

Can I simply abandon the AVITS profile and sign up for another profile with the same student information.

Has anyone been in the same situation, please help

Please does anyone know how I can generate a new MRV deposit slip when the old payment is still reflecting on the system.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Raph14:
Good day everyone, I’m new here and I need your help.

I recently had my U.S. visa refused under Section 214(b), and I’m currently planning to reapply. I’ve already deferred my admission to Spring 2026 so I can properly address any concerns that may have led to the refusal.

A bit about my background:

I hold a National Diploma in Computer Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

I have over 10 years of professional experience working as a System Administrator and IT Support Specialist.

In 2024, I launched my own Cybersecurity and IT startup, which is registered with CAC.

The main reason I’m pursuing a Master’s degree now is because I believe I need advanced knowledge in Cybersecurity to properly scale and lead my company towards the vision I have for it.

I’m single by personal choice and in my early 40s.

My visa interview experience:
I arrived at the embassy around 6:00 a.m. for my 7:00 a.m. appointment. People scheduled for 6:30 and 6:45 a.m. were already being called in, and eventually, those of us with 7:00 a.m. slots were also let in around 6:45.

After the security checks and administrative processing, I joined the queue for the visa interview. It was a tense atmosphere — one of the officers at Window 3, a young man likely in his early 30s, seemed very strict and was issuing a lot of refusals. I was really hoping not to end up at his window.

Thankfully, I was directed to a female officer, who had just interviewed and approved a woman who needed an interpreter. However, before me, I also saw her issue several refusals.

When it was finally my turn, the interview felt rushed. I tried to present my case clearly, but I wasn’t asked many follow-up questions. In the end, I was handed a blue refusal sheet under 214(b).

Transcript:
F-1 Visa Refused.
Attempt: First time
Interview date: June 30, 2025
Interview Time: 7:00am
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
GWU.
MSc in Cybersecurity.

Me: Good morning, officer.

VO: Good morning.

Me: How are you doing, Ma?

VO: Pass me your passport.

I placed my passport and I-20 in the tray. She scanned my passport.

VO: You were refused a Canadian visa in 2024?
Me: No, ma, in 2023 and 2024, I was refused a Canada Visa. The refusal was due to insufficient funds, as noted in the IRCC letters. However, my financial situation has since improved. I now have a merit scholarship from GW, and I’m on paid study leave from my current employer.

VO: I see you’re going to GW for a Master’s in Cybersecurity.

Me: Yes, ma’am. I’m going for my master’s in Cybersecurity to gain global exposure, and this course will equip me with advanced skills in cybersecurity—both technical and strategic, so I can better protect digital assets, respond to threats, and lead cybersecurity projects. Once I am done with the program, I plan to return to my current employer to take on senior roles.

NB: The reason I didn’t stop at simply answering “Yes” was because I had observed her while she interviewed others. She rarely asked more than three questions, and by the third, she usually seemed to have made up her mind. That’s why I decided to include information about my ties to home, just in case she didn’t ask any follow-up questions.

VO: Who is funding your education?

Me: Thank you for that question, officer. I received a merit scholarship from GWU covering my tuition—$xxxx, "My deficit is $25,000 after the scholarship". I have personal savings XX amount and study leave salary from current employer of xx amount to cover my living expenses, books and health.

At this point, she interrupted with “OK” and she stood up, moved away briefly like someone that want to stretch her body, and returned. I offered to show my bank statement, study leave approval from employer and scholarship documents, but she said it wasn’t necessary.

As I attempted to continue, she said, “Thank you for applying for a U.S. visa,” and initially picked up a white sheet, but then switched to the blue refusal sheet and said, “I’m refusing your visa. The blue sheet explains all the details.”

The whole experience was emotionally draining — watching people get denied one after the other while waiting for your turn is not easy.

Did you include your Canadian visa refusal in your DS-160 form, or did the visa officer ask you about it verbally? Because the form does not directly ask if you were refused a visa from Canada or any other country.

Hello,
Pls when applying for visa for dependents, do I wait till mine is approved before apply for them even though our plan it to travel together?

I learnt that group visa appointment is not available in Nigeria, meaning I have to book separately for my self and each dependent

If I'm not able to find an earlier date and decided to apply for emergency visa, would I need to apply for my dependents too?

You don't have to open another AVITS profile . What you need to do is to cancel any pending appointment that is reflecting in your profile . After cancelation a click able NEW will appear and upon clicking you will be able to start afresh a new visa application process .

If you don't understand you may abandon the website and create a new profile .👍

Group appointment is not available For Nigerians but Family appointment is available .

In your situation you will have to book your own appointment first because you are applying for F1 while the accompanying family are applying for F2.

After getting a date then you can applying for the remaining family together by clicking NEW in your same AVITS profile.

You and your dependents are qualified for expedite appointment. You will apply for your own individually, while your family will apply together. 👍

Thank you for your kind words. There is no section on the DS-160 form to input details about a Canadian visa refusal. However, once the visa officer scanned my passport, her first question was about it, she just made mentioned of 2024 alone. I explained that I had been denied twice for the same reason and presented the denial letters from IRCC during the interview.

A visa officer cannot automatically know that you’ve been refused a visa by another country just by scanning your passport. I believe the visa officer was asking a psychological question. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Raph14:
You might be right, when I came back home, I did some search because I was surprised!, here is it: Canada and the United States share immigration information, that allows for the automated exchange of visa and immigration information. The United States and Canada do share some immigration information. As members of the Five Eyes Alliance—an intelligence-sharing partnership that also includes the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand—they exchange data such as biometric information, visa refusals, and border crossing history to help detect fraud, security risks, and past immigration violations.

In addition, under the 2011 Immigration Information Sharing Agreement, both countries share fingerprints (biometrics) and visa application histories for individuals applying for visas, asylum, refugee status, or other immigration benefits.

I don't know about the other countries
