That grape farmer isn't being honest. How can you invest 1m in grape farming and get 7m after one year? That's about 700% profit.

If this was true, believe me the whole Nigerian populace would go into grape farming.

It's lucrative quite alright but you cannot invest 1m and get 7m in just a year.
That logic does not work

Things that happen at small scale do not necessarily scale up 700% profit may happen with 1M investment does not mean it will happen with 1 billion

First of all your assumption about the profit is an assumption that there are no undisclosed expenses. Let us assume that is true
Normally if you do something like this successfully in the short term when there is no competition it is not impossible as more competition arrives things will change

It is prudent to ask questions rather than to jump to conclusion he is not honest
As to the whole Nigerian populace going into it . If everyone goes into it who will buy?
Reason that well. As supply and competition increases prices will drop and people will rush out like they rushed in

You also assume that there is no knowledge component many people just assume anyone can go into any kind of farming without education training. It is probably as difficult to learn as getting a degree or diploma
Did he get in in one year and start making money just like that. Did he have a learning curve or face challenges and can everyone deal with that?

Let me give you one statistic

Cassava yield per hectare

Nigeria = 10 tonnes

Thailand = 20-25 tones

Mind you this 10 in Nigeria is by people who have done it for generations

The difference is explained by knowledge.

That difference if it was a 100m race does not need photo finish

Never assume farming is just by rushing in if you have not learned the business you will not get the results

Well, I know grapes are very very expensive because they are imported. Even local bananas, oranges and other locally grown fruits are expensive not to talk of grapes,. Those are terribly expensive o, so I believe that anyone can make 10x their investment on such a fruit
No matter how expensive grapes are sold, you can never make 700% profit by farming it in one year.

Have you considered the logistics of transporting it from the farm to your store, those you'll hire and pay to cultivate and harvest it, miscellaneous...etc.

And you should note that he (the farmer) would be selling to traders not direct consumers. So they would want some kind of discount from him in order to make enough profit.

In Lagos most super markets that stock it hardly sell it cos it's so expensive. A takeway plastic of grape is 6,500. How many Nigerians can consistently afford it in this economy. Yes you might buy it once or twice but that's it. It might not cross your mind again throughout the whole year.

That a fruit is expensive doesn't mean it's profitable. That farmer wasn't being honest.

Biko stop speaking English to me.

The interviewer asked him if you put 1m in the business, how much can you make in one year, he said 7m. The interviewer said 7m he said yes.

He should have simply told the interviewer the pros and cons of the business. But like most nigerians he wasn't honest. Cos most people might see this video and contact him only to by hit with stories that touch.

One big advantage in agriculture is the fact that 50% of the production cost is on labour. that is to say, you can shift your profit margin if you regulate your labour cost very well.

You sound emotional and aroused

If you go into business with 1000 Naira it is possible to make 50000 with a lot more ease that
Making 50000000 with 1000000

That is a matter of scale so this is not unbelievable or such a big deal

1 million Naira is a small sum

Why should anyone go into a business they have not learnt

Grape farming is not a big business in Nigeria and for a niche small business with knowledge it is not unbelievable though it is not likely to scale up and the 50 million naira level

There is no need for unnecessary aggressiveness

You don't believe it fine
I don't believe or disbelieve I would rather ask questions
I don't see it as impossible

Why won't they make 50 million from 1 million when PEOPLE ARE GREEDY?

GREED IS THE MAIN THING KILLING THIS COUNTRY AND NOT JUST THE CORRUPT LEADERS.

People will buy something for ₦100 and want to make profit of ₦1,000 from it?
How will people not continue to be hungry?

I just bought a pack of this grape now for 5k, something that shouldn't cost more than 1k.

Why do u guys doubt everything even when u don't know the secret behind that business.

The major thing there is,the secret in every business can never be exposed until u decide to learn from the masters such as this one.

Really, never knew this could be grown in Nigeria!
God so blessed Nigeria but her citizens find it difficult to make meaningful occupations and income out of her vast resources but relied on government pitfalls!
So when government decided to remove subsidy and made other meaningful economic reforms, they find it difficult to adjust hence the cry of "ebi n pawa " (hunger cry)!!

Tropics is where grapes are grown na. My dad was a grape farmer/consultant during his days as a lecturer in ABU, zaria. That was his side hustle, alongside poultry and later piggery.

It's possible to transport them without referigerated trucks. There was a pakistani family friend and neighbour who was one of my father's customers. He used to sell to super stores, especially cash'n'carry. He told us he took the grapes to Lagos and Abuja to sell.

I hope it's grapes with seeds , grapes without seeds are poisons
This is not true.
If you are implying that seedless grapes are genetically modified, that also is not always the case.
A lot of seedless grapes are a result of natural parthenocarpy, a process where fruits develop without fertilization, and are not typically genetically modified.
So they are perfectly safe to eat and have the same nutritional value as the grapes with seeds.

Easier said than done, wont a graduate need investment capital to start it? People used to think Agriculture is jst a laneman's job or just tilling the land, except you go commercial, subsistence farming cannot liberate you.

Palm oil has a larger market and damand than grapes.

You can easily avoid grapes if you don't have funds for it, but you can't avoid palm oil cos most foods both the one you cook in your kitchen and the one you eat outside are prepared with palm oil. So whether you have money or not you'd just have to buy it so you can cook.

Meaning producers would always be smiling to the bank. It's not so in the case of grapes. Cos the demand isn't high.
