Femi Adebayo Opens Up On Why He Left Law To Pursue Acting by alphonsojaybaz(op): 9:29am On Jul 06, 2025
Renowned Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Femi Adebayo, has revealed the pivotal moment he decided to abandon his law profession to follow his passion for acting. Eyes of Lagos reports,

In an exclusive chat with Pulse Nigeria, Adebayo shared how a single acting opportunity changed the course of his life forever. According to him, he was earning ₦20,000 per month as a practicing lawyer when he was offered ₦50,000 to feature in a movie for just three days.

“Back then, acting was nothing more than a hobby,” Adebayo recounted. “But when I got an offer to earn ₦50,000 for a three-day shoot—more than double my monthly salary as a lawyer—I knew I had to make a decision. That moment made it clear: acting is my true calling.”

From Law Books to Movie Sets

That career-defining moment marked a major turning point for the University of Ilorin-trained lawyer, who ultimately chose to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father, Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello.

Since making the switch, Femi Adebayo has grown to become one of Nollywood’s most respected talents, with several blockbuster movies and awards to his name.

Family Legacy Meets Passion

Femi Adebayo’s journey into the entertainment industry wasn’t entirely accidental. Being the son of a veteran actor, the world of film and performance was always within reach. However, making the leap from a traditional legal career into the uncertain world of acting required not just passion, but courage and conviction.

“My father supported me. He saw my passion, and that gave me strength,” Adebayo added.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Today, Femi Adebayo’s story stands as an inspiration to many young Nigerians who are torn between societal expectations and personal passions. His decision to follow his heart despite the risks has paid off, turning him into one of the biggest names in Yoruba cinema and Nollywood at large.

While I appreciate Femi Adebayo's journey and his passion for acting, it’s hard to overlook some aspects of his transition from law to film. It raises a few questions about whether he was truly cut out for the legal profession, or if his connections, being the son of a renowned actor played a significant role in his admission to law school.

Despite enjoying his movies and recognizing his success in the industry, I can't say I see him as a wonderful actor. There are times when his performances come across as overly exaggerated, lacking the naturalness that many viewers crave. While he certainly knows how to command attention, sometimes it feels more like he's acting for the sake of performance rather than embodying the character authentically.

His story might be inspiring, but I think it's important to also acknowledge that talent in acting goes beyond just making a choice, it requires a certain level of finesse that he hasn't fully achieved in my opinion.

You made the right choice, studying law and being a lawyer should be for backup. Being a lawyer only benefit those whose parents are already in it but if you have no one, it will be difficult.

I'm speaking as a lawyer, so I know what I'm saying.

He didn't even practice per se so what is he "leaving "? He is like Omawunmi and Jenifa who didn’t practice too.
According to his father, he has been in acting right from childhood.

Up til now thre is nothing in law practice, except you have been known as big lawyers.

Nobody will leave renowned lawyer and be looking for baby lawyer when he knows what he /she would loose if he makes such mistake.

Why EFCC loosing many cases? is it not because of lawyers that EFCC recruited VS lawyer that big criminals/politicians recruited?

Acting is equally a profession. That's why theatre arts and other related courses are studied in universities.
