During my schooling I was give 50kobo notes and N1notes as pocket money.

Then most snacks were sold in kobo. Snacks like koroko, kuli kuli, tanfili, sispelebe and many more.

Our naira was so strong then.
Smiles... I met those notes but then, I don't gives money to spend on my own but I watched them spending them...

Then, we do bought baba dudu for 50 kobo, kokoroko for same price or #1.

It was taxi then, not bus. They used to put one yellow something and write taxi on it and put it on the roof 😀

Yea baba dudu. I used to to buy it too. And Santana as well. One sweet that looks like foam. It came in many clolours it melts once you put it in your mouth and colours your tongue.

After school Skiddo usually visit kids. He puts pads in his belly and bum bum and attaches a fake beard. He comes with a whistle and bell. We would rush to him, collect his bell and start ringing it.

We used to enter mole buses then. From Oshodi to Sango was N1. I missed the good old days.

Who is lambaring you?

Have you seen 50kobo, the silver color coin in your life before? except on paper?

Have you ever touched the 25kobo coin? The brown brass coin with maize and cassava on it?

Do you know what is called ice water?

Do you know lolly?

Do you know when a taxi is N1:50k?

Do you know how terrible the Naira has fallen?

Do you know what they call condense milk?

Do you know Baba Dudu?

One thing about you genz is that you are lacking in so many things, respect is the first.

Then, ordinary chatgpt should help your curiosity, but you are lacking in diligence too.

A lot of parents these days don't watch their kids eating habits. They give them freedom to eat whatever they want and whenever they want it.

If you go to most private schools and see how obese the kids there look, you'll shake your head.
Parents who want their kids to eat healthy will have to first set the example. I can bet you their parents also eat anyhow.

There's this aunty of mine who told me she gives her 3 kids 4k each every day to take to school. I told her it's too much. Meaning she'll be spending about 12k every day for the whole term. This is minus school fees and other fees private school usually demands from their students.

When I suggested to her that giving them food from home to take to school would be more economical for her, she told me they're in secondary school so it's going to look odd. That it's only nursery and primary school students who carry food to school.

I told her that more than 65% of working class 9am-5pm Nigerians now carry food from home to work which they microwave and eat because of how expensive food has become. And they're not shy. How much more secondary school students.

So I want to throw this question to the mummies and daddies in the house, how much do you give your teenage kids in secondary school as pocket money.

I understand that things are so expensive these days. Oridinary meatpie I used to buy N200 around 2022 is now 1k. Donuts of 50-N100 is now 500-800. Plastic soda is 500. So is 4k too much for a teenager to take to school, or would you prefer they just eat to their satisfaction at home before going to school?
She has the money to spend. I give my kids food to take to school. I also take food to the office. No 4k for anybody. Even myself.

It's not cap. I'm a millennial and I remember the 50 Kobo and one Naira coins.
I remember my mum increasing my money from 10 to 15 Naira when I entered JSS 1 and how happy I was.
Nigeria's economic deterioration has been so swift that younger people may struggle to believe those stories.

I’m not saying nigerians didn’t spent 10naira or 20 Naira at some point....

Both millennias and genz both lived in the 2000s period together right? Even though genz came later ...::::so why are melenias claiming they spent 25kobo during the time genz too was already here and genz didn’t spend 25kobo on biscuits

They lived in the same period but there's a 10-year generational gap. Zoomers were alive but were too young to remember. That's the difference. Or do you remember things that happened when you were 0 to 5 years?
I don't remember 25 Kobo.

Just tell us that's what your kids had for Lunch break back then in Nigeria until you were sold into slavery in Italy via Lybia in the name of marriage to Oyigbo man
yimu.

If you like don't go hustle,be here dragging women who will get married before you make it in life (if at all you ever do).
Your child will buy hawked kunu or zobo and buns(eggroll is too expensive for you) as snack,if you don't hustle

On a second thought, 2k no be anything our money no get value
Gbadugbakun:
I have a friend who's shop is close to my place. He sells baked stuffs, meat pie, egg roll and all. The kids who come there spend over 2k. I kid you not. Some buy 2 meat pie which is 2k plus coke. Making 2k5. Our money no get value again.
Re: Parents How Much Do You Give Your Kids As Pocket Money To Take To School? by CDCEO001: 7:46am On Jul 06, 2025
She must be making at least 25 or 30k daily.
1k each will be enough for most, especially if they eat at home before going to school.

That's the sad reality. Plastic coke of 70 those days is now 500. If you add one meatpie that's 1,500 gone on just snacks that won't even satisfy you.

Soludo brought back the 50kobo and 1naira coins in the 2000s. But the FG frustrated him.

As at 2010 banks could give you N1 coins if they run out of notes.

She should make it N5000 each.

The money is just average mere looking at the condition of things at the moment.

As far back in year 2002 when i was in high school, my take school stipend was N500 daily.

This is so true.

Last weekend, I didn't have much strength to prepare meal. So i decided to visit the mall to get some snacks.

I bought two meat pie, one croissant and hollandia yogurt. When my bill was calculated, it reads N6000. I just paid and bounced.

Hollandia yogurt is between 1,800-2k depending on where you buy from.

Our money doesn't have value at all. Oridinary coated peanuts I bought at jendol the one inside plastic container was about 5k. This country needs to be delivered.
